Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown Live recap for September 13, 2016

Heath Slater and Rhyno are interviewed on the pre-show. Heath Slater still can't believe that they won the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships, and is grateful for the opportunity. Rhyno says that a lot of people are behind Slater, and admits that Slater has grown on him.

Charly Caruso reports during the pre-show that Heath Slater's entire family has taken over catering and that both Curt Hawkins and Randy Orton have been spotted in the building.

AJ Styles shows up to start the show. He tells the SmackDown Universe that everything that he said he would do, he did, and now he is WWE World Champion. He calls himself "The Champ That Runs The Camp." His celebration is cut short by a returning John Cena, who hasn't been seen since SummerSlam, who says that Styles has something that belongs to him and he wants it back. AJ throws Cena's armband into his face, but Cena says it's the World title he wants, not the armband. Cena says AJ may be the face that runs the place, but he's the main that doesn't quit. After Cena says he plans on being 16-time world champ, Dean Ambrose shows up and tells AJ Styles he made the biggest mistake of his life by stealing the World title from him and making him his enemy, and says he plans to take the World title back. Cena calls Ambrose out on his hypocrisy for hanging AJ on the ropes by his nuts and complaining about a low blow, and says "Stone Cold" Steve Austin was right for calling him out on his podcast. Ambrose tells Cena he doesn't care what he has to say about him, and that he has no patience for him at all. He calls Cena a part-timer and says that Cena doesn't even have what it takes in the ring anymore, and that Cena can't even go through him. Shane McMahon shows up and compliments AJ and Cena on their SummerSlam match, and praises AJ for winning clean. He also compliments AJ and Ambrose for their match Sunday night, but says that AJ Styles took the easy way out; nevertheless, AJ Styles is WWE World Champion. Shane tells Ambrose he will have his World title rematch, but not yet. He says that Styles, Cena and Ambrose will have a triple threat for the World title at No Mercy, then announces a tag team match for tonight: Cena and Ambrose vs. Styles and a partner of his choosing. Shane tells Styles that he should have no problem finding a tag team partner.

The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) beat The Hype Bros (Zack Ryder and Mojo Rawley).

Curt Hawkins gives us some Curt Hawkins facts, then says it's time for the locker room to face the facts.

The Miz and Maryse show up. The Miz says that he has been called a corward for weeks, but he is still WWE Intercontinental Champion. As he brags that he has held the title longer than 132 former Intercontinental champs and made it more distinguished under his reign, Dolph Ziggler shows up and says that no matter what Miz does, the WWE Universe will never see him as a top guy. The Miz says he is the main event on any and every show he appears on. Ziggler says The Miz will always have that asterisk next to his name, and gives him a chance to earn some respect by taking him on in a rematch. Maryse is slighted by this challenge, and Daniel Bryan shows up to make the rematch official after acknowledging that Maryse cheated to help Miz retain. The Miz throws a wrench in the works by saying that he wants his contract re-negotiated, and until he gets what he wants, nobody gets what they want and he is calling his own shots. Daniel Bryan gets in the ring, and Miz and Maryse retreat.

AJ Styles runs into Baron Corbin backstage, and asks Corbin to tag with him in the main event tonight. Baron Corbin says he'd rather be Styles' opponent, as he wants the WWE World Championship that he is carrying around.

Baron Corbin hits Apollo Crews with End of Days outside of the ring before their match can even begin, and after Corbin gets back in the ring, Jack Swagger shows up despite being on the Raw brand and being dressed in civilian clothes. Corbin rolls out of the ring, then Swagger announces that as of 12:01 AM today, he is now a member of the SmackDown brand. He tells us a few things about himself, then says "You don't know Jack" before telling us to forget everything we may now about him as he plans to be a big problem on SmackDown Live.

It is announced that Baron Corbin will be on Talking Smack regarding Jack Swagger signing to SmackDown.

Becky Lynch shows up, and Charly Caruso interviews her in the ring. Becky says that she was in the fight of her life on Sunday night, and says that she is a fighting woman.

Alexa Bliss beaats Nikki Bella, Carmella, Naomi and Natalya to become #1 contender for the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship.

AJ Styles asks Kane to tag with him tonight, but Kane just laughs and walks away.

Shane McMahon is in the ring, where a table with a contract is sitting in the center. He introduces Heath Slater, proclaiming that he has earned his way into the SmackDown roster. Slater shows up with Rhyno. Shane congratulates Rhyno and Slater on winning the SmackDown tag titles and tells Slater he is a man of his word. He thanks Shane and Daniel Bryan, tells his wife they're moving into a double-wide and then thanks Rhyno. Slater says he and Rhyno will take on any team, anywhere, and as he thanks all of his kids, The Ascension (Konnor and Viktor) show up and challenge Slater and Rhyno right here, right now. Slater asks Shane if this is a bit much, especially since there is no referee in the ring. Shane makes the challenge official for right here, right now and has the ring crew clear everything from the ring, including the carpet covering the mat.

Heath Slater and Rhyno retain the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships against The Ascension (Konnor and Viktor).

AJ Styles tells Daniel Bryan he doesn't need a partner, but Daniel Bryan has one picked out for him: James Ellsworth, one of the two indy guys that AJ Styles made fun backstage at Backlash as well as one of Braun Strowman's first opponents from weeks ago. AJ Styles is disgusted and walks off.

Randy Orton shows up. He says that Bray Wyatt isn't the face of fear because he is afraid of him. He tells Bray Wyatt he failed to end his career, and he's standing here now, calling him out. Bray Wyatt appears on the TitanTron and says Orton embarassed him, and that he knows what he must do. He tells Orton "Do not sleep," then appears behind him outside of the ring. The lights go dim, and when they come back on, Bray disappeared, and Orton is attacked from behind by Erick Rowan. It doesn't take long for Randy Orton to hit Erick Rowan with an RKO.

It is announced that Alexa Bliss will be on Talking Smack after SmackDown.

Before AJ Styles' tag team partner James Ellsworth can get in the ring, Ellsworth is suddenly attacked from behind by The Miz. The Miz speaks into the camera, telling The Miz that he is the main event and not Ellsworth before hitting Ellsworth with the Skull Crushing Finale on the entrance ramp and tossing him off the ramp to become AJ Styles' new tag team partner by force.

Dean Ambrose and John Cena beat The Miz and AJ Styles. Ambrose hits Cena with Dirty Deeds after the match.

On Talking Smack, Baron Corbin says he turned AJ Styles down because he'd rather be sucessful on his own instead of having someone cost him something. He then brags about attacking people backstage as he says he wants to make his way up to the main event scene. He considers the people who make the opportunites his biggest obstacle. He says that anyone who doesn't want to be World champion shouldn't be on SmackDown, and says that he has what it takes to be World champ and that he enjoys beating people up, then complains that he has to beat people that he's already beaten before to get anywhere.

On Talking Smack, Alexa Bliss says that she is where she deserves to be, as she feels she is the biggest threat in the SmackDown Women's division after it took two women to eliminate her on Sunday. She also feels that she was overlooked in NXT and looked over in favor of Bayley, Charlotte, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch, and says he had to sacrifice to get to where she is now. Later in the interview, she says she doesn't care much for Carmella, Naomi or Natalya.

Here are the top 10 moments from tonight's show!
