Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown recap for October 14, 1999

Mankind enters WWF Chairman Vince McMahon's office. After plugging his new book, he says it is time to repay him for the favor he did him last week by bringing back The Rock 'n Sock Connection (The Rock and Mankind) for one night. All Vince has to do is book the match. Vince says it is okay with him, but says he does not have a willing partner. Mankind says The Rock wants this worse than he does, and that Vince made it happen. Vince wishes Mankind the best of luck.

Before the next match, "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn mentions that Hardcore and Crash Holly will face him and "Road Dogg" Jesse James for the WWF Tag Team Championships at No Mercy, but they are due for an ass whupping courtesy of The New Age Outlaws (Road Dogg, Billy Gunn). However, they are feeling a little froggy and are issuing an open challenge for the tag team titles. Suddenly, Triple H shows up, the right side of his face bruised, swollen, and purple; his right eye black. Triple H talks to them, apologizes for interrupting them, and says he may never see them again. He then tells the fans this may be the last time they will ever see him again. He never intended for anything other than to come out and wrestle and live his dream. All he ever wanted to do was be in the ring and be the best in the world, and he never intended to live like some sort of cheap thrill seeker who performed for some sick people who wanted to see some guys kill each other for their entertainment. He says this is what the business has come down to, and it is wrong. He says the Superstars put their lives on the line, and the crowd could less as they only want to see someone get hurt. He says he is sick of it and he is done, and that this is the last time everyone will ever see him as he is done. Before he leaves, he wants WWF Chairman Vince McMahon to come out to the ring, and hopefully this will never happen to anyone ever again. Vince McMahon shows up, and Triple H asks him how he could let what happened to him happen. He says Vince has brought the business to the point that people have brought in poisonous snakes and that everyone is putting their lives on the line. He tells Vince to look at his face, saying this could be anybody, and that he has given his body, his face and his life for the business, and Vince could care less. He mentions his meeting with a poisonous rattlesnake last Monday night on Raw, and asks Vince if this is professional wrestling and if this is what he signed up for. He says that every opportunity has been taken away from him due to this, and tells Vince it's over. He is done, and he quits. He tells Vince he screwed himself, and there will be no main event. Even if he wanted to, he could not come to the building, and he will not anymore as he does not care anymore. He also tells Vince that when "Stone Cold" Steve Austin gets to the building, he wants Austin to look at him and see what has happened, as it is much Austin's fault as it is Vince's. He says he will hand the WWF Championship over to Austin, as it means more to him than life itself.

X-Pac meets Kane backstage. He apologizes to Kane, but Kane says "Sean...stay out of this."

The Acolytes (Faarooq and Bradshaw) beat Kane in a 2-on-1 handicap match. After the match, X-Pac runs in with a steel chair.

Mankind runs into Stevie Richards, who asks him if he could take on Val Venis. Mankind reminds Stevie Richards that Dude Love is a lover, not a fighter, and that Val Venis could kill him. Stevie says he is his best friend, and Mankind says he can be his friend, but not his best friend, and that he is looking for him.

In footage from earlier today, Michael Hayes interviews Test. Test says he can't even read The British Bulldog's name without getting pissed off; however, WWF co-owner Stephanie McMahon does not want to be the cause of any violence, and he has to put her first. He hopes that she can recover so they can get married and move on with their lives. Stephanie may have forgiven The British Bulldog, but he has not.

Chris Jericho and Curtis Hughes are seen brawling backstage. Referees and officials have to restore order.

Mankind finds The Rock, who is on his phone. He tells him The Rock that WWF Chairman wants them to team up one last time, and Mankind thinks Vince is doing them a favor by letting The Rock 'n Sock Connection team up one last time to say goodbye the fans before The Rock goes on a singles career. The Rock says the only way he would entertain the thought if it is on SmackDown and if it is the absolute last time they ever tag together. Mankind tries to tell them who they are up against, but The Rock says it doesn't matter who they are up against. The Rock leaves, and Mankind says they are facing The New Age Outlaws ("Road Dogg" Jesse James and "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn for the WWF Tag Team Championships.

Chris Jericho beats Curtis Hughes after ring announcer Howard Finkel shows up and distracts referee Tim White so that Jericho can use a steel chair that he has planted in the corner as a weapon. After the match, Jericho tells Hughes there is no reason to be embarrassed after being beaten "fairly and squarely" by the toughes and meanest man in the World Wrestling Federation, and says Hughes hs always known that he is one bad mamma jamma. Even though Curtis Hughes will never, ever with him again and that he is a loser in the game of life, out of the goodness of his heart, he will give him a consolation prize of a farewell gift that is as worth as much as a set of encyclopedias: Howard Finkel. He says that if there were two idiots who were perfect for each other, it would be them, and he hopes that they form a connection of ebony and ivory that will dominate for years to come. He says he has seen how they look at each other in the lccker room and want to be together forever, and thanks to him, it can finally come true.

We see footage from earlier today where Jim Ross interviews Big Show. On Monday, he found out his father had terminal cancer, and that he does not have a lot of time left. He remembers his father telling him "Whatever you start, you finish," and he has never finished anything he has ever started. He is a great athlete and has done well at things, but he has never put his heart into anything. What has hit him the hardest is that he does not have a lot of time to prove he can put his heart into something and be the best he can be at something.

Terry Taylor interviews The Big Boss Man, who says he does not care about Al Snow or Big Show's personal issues. He has a problem with who booked him in a match with them, and the only way to get answers is to beat them up and win the WWF Hardcore Championship.

We see footage from "Sexual Chocolate" Mark Henry's third sex therapy session with a third sex therapist. Unlike the other two, this therapist is a White male instead of a Black female. Mark said he needed a male therapist, as all he thought about was them the whole time he asked for their help. The therapist feels he can help him, and touches him when eh says that. Mark - whom the therapist calls "Chocolate" and "Sexual" - tries to get him to come back, but to no avail.

The Big Boss Man beats Al Snow and Big Show to win the WWF Hardcore Championship after Big Show puts Al Snow through a table and Boss Man nails Big Show in the forehead with his nightstick.

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin shows up at the arena.

We see footage from the break where Chyna calls for help backstage.

Before the next match, Val Venis says that as he strolls, struts and gyrates his way to No Mercy, the only thing on his mind is absolute victory. He tells Mankind that Mr. Rocko belongs to him, as he pulled him out of the garbage can and brought him ever so close to the promised land. Since then, Mr. Rocko has been in places The Rock could only dream of. At No Mercy, Mankind will find out first-hand exactly why he is the single fastest up and coming athlete in the history of the World Wrestling Federation.

Val Venis beats Stevie Richards. During the match, it is announced that EMTs are with Chyna backstage. After the match, Val Venis pulls Mr. Rocko out of his tights and applies a testicular claw to Stevie Richards.

EMTs and Chyna are seen wheeling a convulsing Triple H into an ambulance. Chyna gets in the back with Triple H before the ambulance speeds off.

The British Bulldog shows up. He says he can't, won't and does not care about anybody. All he cares about is the WWF Championship, and if Triple H is too sick to defend the title, then he will take it from whoever has it. As for The Rock, if he thinks he can slam him in a pile of bulldog crap and get away with it, then at No Mercy, he is going to knock that Brahma bullcrap out of him and get one step closer to the WWF Championship.

Terri Runnels does a photo shoot where she is nude and covered in money. She says that if a picture is worth a thousand words, then her picture is worth a hundred thousand words. He tells the team of Edge and Christian and The New Brood (Jeff and Matt Hardy) to fight their hearts out, as to the victor goes these spoils. As Edge and Christian watch the photo shoot backstage, The Hardys and Gangrel attack from behind.

Jeff Jarrett and Miss Kitty show up. Inside the ring is a table and various household items. Jarrett tells Chyna that after Monday night, it has become obvious that she has not learned what the role of a woman should be. At No Mercy, he will show her. Tonight, he will demonstrate what good housekeeping is all about, as she does not have a clue. We then see the items in the ring, starting with the iron and ironing board, followed by a skillet, a frying pan, a portable oven range, a coffee pot, a broom in a garbage can, and of course, a guitar. Jarrett says he is bringing everything but the kitchen sink to prove he is the greatest Intercontinental Champion of all time, that men are dominant and women are weak. All of a sudden, Debra shows up, and says Chyna will be the new Intercontinental Champion.

Kevin Kelly interviews "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, who says he does not feel sorry for Triple H. He is surprised that the rattlesnake didn't die, and that he had no way of knowing the rattlesnake would bite Triple H. If he has to drive to the hospital to get the belt, he will do it, but either way, he will be WWF Champion on Sunday.

The New Brood (Jeff and Matt Hardy) beat Edge and Christian to tie the Terri Runnels Invitational at two wins a piece despite a double cover where Jeff covers Edge and Christian covers Matt. It is explained that Jeff and Edge were the legal men, and Christian and Matt were not.

We see GTV footage where WWF co-owner Stephanie McMahon meets with The British Bulldog, telling him that this is not a trick. Stephanie says she does not remember what happened, but she has seen the video footage and says he is not to blame and that her father, WWF Chairman Vince McMahon, is also not to blame. She says that Vince, her brother and WWF co-owner Shane, and Test are all upset. She does not know what they are going to do, but before anything can happen, she wants to talk to him and ask him to publicly apologize. The Bulldog says he is sick of apologizing, and says this is a waste of his time.

Before the next match, The Godfather gives Mideon a choice between wrestling him or having one of the hos for entire night. Mideon calls The Godfather a dumbass before saying he doesn't do hos and asks if he has any farm animals. The Godfather asks Mideon if he is some kind of sicko, and beats him up.

The Godfather beats Mideon after knocking Viscera off the apron. He gets the pinfall after the hos grab at Viscera's leg. After the match, Viscera attacks The Godfather.

It is reported that Triple H is on his way back to the arena from the hospital.

Before the next match, Mankind says that as he and The Rock head into their last match together, it has been a hard and bumpy road, but he would not trade this for anything. He then says "Hey hey! My my! Rock 'n Sock will never die!"

The Rock 'n Sock Connection (The Rock and Mankind) beat The New Age Outlaws ("Road Dogg" Jesse James and "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn) to become the WWF Tag Team Champions for a third time. During the match, referee Mike Chioda has to get involved to restore order when both members of both teams brawl with each other. Before the finish, Billy Gunn pushes Mankind into referee Earl Hebner. Crash Holly shows up and hits Mankind with a baseball bat, and Hardcore Holly hits Billy Gunn wit with one of the tag titles. Mankind gets his arm over Billy Gunn for the three count and the tag team titles. The Rock is not happy about the situation.

Chyna helps Triple H to the locker room, and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin is inside. Triple H tells Austin that the WWF Championship is not worth his life, and tells him to take the WWF Championship. Austin then takes it...to the face. Triple H attacks Austin with the WWF Championship, then rips the purple bruiser on his face off and tells him the title means more to him than it will ever mean to Austin.
