Extreme Nation - ECW on TNN recap for August 27, 1999

The show starts with footage of The Dudley Boyz (Buh Buh Ray and D-Von Dudley) putting Balls Mahoney through a flaming table. Joey Styles warns us that this is not the WWF or WCW...it is ECW, and it is on TNN.

Jerry Lynn vs. Rob Van Dam for the ECW World Television Championship at Hardcore Heaven is replayed. Rob Van Dam retains the ECW World Heavyweight Championship against Jerry Lynn. (During the match, as well as the duration of the premiere episode, archive footage of the wrestlers is shown to introduce ECW to those who have never seen it before, as Paul Heyman was unimpressed with the first tapings, which had to be toned down from the usual ECW fare for TNN. In retrospect, Joey Styles felt that TNN "crapped on this episode." In his own recollections, "The Innovator of Violence" Tommy Dreamer shared this sentiment.)

It is announced that after the show, the season premiere of Rollerjam begins with the California Quakes vs. the New York Enforcers in a rematch from last year's Founder's Cup Challenge.

We see some footage from August 27, 1994, when "The Franchise" Shane Douglas threw down the NWA World Heavyweight Championship and declared Eastern Championship Wrestling was now Extreme Championship Wrestling and no longer part of the NWA.

Before the next match, Taz tells Rhyno that he doesn't have to slap himself, since he will do that for him. He tells him he will not only choke him out, he will make him bleed and he will beat the shit out of him.

Taz retains the ECW World Heavyweight Championship against Rhyno with the Katahajime in footage from Chicago, Illinois.

Paul E. Dangerously introduces the audience to Sabu.

We see footage of Little Spike Dudley hitting the 600 lb. "Big" Sal E. Graziano with the Acid Drop.

We see footage of Jason with The Impact Players (Justin Credible and Lance Storm) and Dawn Marie. They all introduce themselves, then Cyrus introduces himself, who says he is ready to make his mark on this program. The only probelem is, he cannot get time on the microphone or on the camera, especially as the camera keeps moving to Dawn Marie, but he does not mind that due tot he company he keeps, not the company he is in. Cyrus leaves, and Justin Credible says that Cyrus should be the co-host of "this fine program," and they can make it happen, as they can manipulate any situation and are smarter than any other ECW wrestler. They will play the fiddle, and says that Rob Van Dam won't know what hit him when they are done. Storm says there are wrestlers in ECW who think they have the stroke to take over the company, but The Impact Players are the only ones with the stroke, and asks how anyone can take over the sport if they have no paid their dues. It is announced that they will be on hand tomorrow night at the ECW Arena in South Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and when they go on the road. More information is available at ECWWrestling.com, in ECW Magazine, which can be subscribed to by calling (800) 310-7047.

We see archival footage of some members of the ECW roster, with chyrons identifying each one. We then hear from Taz, who says that everyone is saying ECW will take TNN to the extreme. He says that you think about ECW, and then everything settles, and through it all, he is standing there with the two most vicious weapons in the business and the company: his hands. He says he does not need a weapon, as his hands are his weapons, and that you can ask anyone who has been through ECW's doors and the guys that he has based faced, especially the ones who have passed through, including Chris Jericho - who tapped out to the Katahajime after he dumped him on his head - and Shane Douglas, who he says has a back so weak that it cannot carry WCW, and that he faced him for the ECW World Heavyweight Championship and lost it to him when Douglas played here only to be choked out. He also brings up Bam Bam Bigelow, who tapped to the Katahajime just as easily. He also name drops 2 Cold Scorpio, Chris Candido and Jerry "The King" Lawler, all of whom have fallen victim to the Katahajime. He says he is "the man that your mother warned you about," and "the guy that aint your kid's role model." He says that nobody want their kids to grow up like him and do what he does, as he is not the guy who will show up on TV to do an acting job, show up with the media or "schmooze with the Hollywood types" as he is too busy training to defend the ECW World Heavyweight Championship. He says he is World champ for a reason, because he lives by the motto "Kill or be killed." He says to stay tuned and look for him. He will be the one dropping people on their heads and making them tap out, as he is Tazz and he is the ECW World Heavyweight Champion. Beat him if you can. Survive if he lets you.
