Nitro-Glycerin - Monday Nitro recap for January 22, 1996

Mexican wrestling sensation Konnan shows up as Steve "Mongo" McMichael, Eric Bischoff and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan get the show started. He plans to defend the Mexican Heavyweight Championship for the very first time tomorrow night against Psychosis, saying he will be "the blueprint for his destruction."

A bevy of beautiful women accompany "Macho Man" Randy Savage on his way to the ring for the next match. (Three of the women are Hulk Hogan's real-life wife Linda, Steve "Mongo" McMichaels' real-life wife Debra, and Woman, who has returned to WCW fresh out of Extreme Championship Wrestling.) Macho Man tells "Mean" Gene Okerlund that there is no doubt that he'll be steaming hot tonight. Hulk Hogan shows up and wishes him the best of luck, and tells him he wants the first shot at the WCW World Heavyweight Championship when he takes it from Ric Flair. When Ric Flair shows up, he tries to cavort with the women before the match, especially Woman, who slaps Flair in the face.

It is announced that Pittsburgh Steelers defensive player Kevin Green will have Hulk Hogan's back tomorrow night at Clash of Champions It is also announced The Road Warriors (Animal and Hawk) will reunite tomorrow night.

The January issue of WCW Magazine has exclusive photos from World War III! Also, "Macho Man" Randy Savage speaks out!

"Macho" Man Randy Savage beats "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship when Jimmy Hart's distraction backfires and "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson accidentally hits Ric Flair with a brass knuckle before Hulk Hogan brawls with him. "Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews Hogan and Savage after the match, and Savage says Hogan is celebrating like he won the title when Savage himself is the winner. Hogan congratulates Savage, then says he wants the first shot at the title again. Savage tells Hogan he's just the World Heavyweight Champion, not Nick Bockwinkel, and that Hogan will have to earn his way to the front of the line, but he wants to do it here in Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada. Hulk Hogan asks Savage to have his back against One Man Gang, and that he'll do whatever it takes to make it back to #1 contendership. Savage says that this championship match needs to happen, and if Hogan can beat him, he'll shake his hand. If he beats Hogan, he wants Hogan to shake his hand, too. Hogan says they have a deal.

Flyin' Brian beats Dean Malenko by pinfall after getting Malenko's foot caught between the ropes.

Hulk Hogan beats One Man Gang. After the match, Hulk Hogan fights off The Zodiac, One Man Gnag, Chris Benoit, "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson, and The Taskmaster. "Macho Man" Randy Savage shows up to help, and "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair shows up just in time for Flyin' Brian and the others to stop The Giant from getting in the right.
