Nitro-Glycerin - Monday Nitro recap for September 28, 1998

The show starts with a performance by The Nitro Girls.

Eric Bischoff and Hollywood Hogan show up, and Scott Hall (who is much more sober this time around) and Brian Adams join up with them as they are halfway down the aisle. Hogan says that the fans were begging Hogan to step on them so his feet could not touch the ground, and that you can fool some of the wrestling fans some of the time, but you can never fool a black-and-white nWo-ite anytime. Hogan brags about making wrestling and WCW what they are today, and if it wasn't for him, all the fans' heroes would be zeroes. He then says the wrestling fans are just as gullible as the wrestlers he will pluck off one at a time. He says he is on a mission where he will beat The Warrior at Halloween Havoc and prove to him that the running and the hiding from him only delayed the inevitable. He then challenges Sting and Bret "The Hit Man" Hart, and if they have the guts, he will rip them apart. Tonight, he takes his business back and nWo Hollywood takes over once again.

La Parka beats Super Calo. After the match, Super Calo beats La Parka up with his own steel chair.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews Bret "The Hit Man" Hart. He says he is not worried about his bad knee, and says has he has waited a long time to get his hands on Hollywood Hogan, and that he and Sting have agreed to give him the first shot at Hollywood Hogan. Hart plans to get back at Hogan for leading him down the wrong path and hiding from him for years, and that he has people watching his back. He says it is time to settle the score, and that Hogan will be a zero as Hart plans to prove that he can be a hero for the fans. All he needs is one chance.

The Disciple beats Sick Boy.

We see another performance by The Nitro Girls.

Before the next match, Scott Steiner says it is easy to see that not all men are created equal when he steps into the ring, and if there is a man who looks as great as he does, he would like to meet him as he does not exist.

Scott Steiner beats Lenny Lane and Nick Dinsmore in a handicap match with a double Steiner Recliner. After the match, Scott Steiner puts his lower back out.

Pyrotechnics signal the start of the second hour.

The Warrior shows up. He calls out Hollywood Hogan, saying he knows who Hogan is and who he himself is, and what the Warriors want to see. He says Hogan has brought nothing but disappointment, and he senses that disappointment in the fans. He sends Hogan a message: since his return, Hogan has brought nothing before him except a pittance of the man he once knew. A fan is caught by security trying to rush the ring before he can continue speaking at this point. He calls the fan an example of that disappointment and "a lost Warrior," as Hogan has not answered the ultimate challenge. When Hogan looks at him, he sees only a piece of himself, and he refuses to make himself less than what he is until Hogan finds who he needs to be. At Halloween Havoc, he will become full-blown, and Hogan will face the challenge for the second time of his life.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews Buff Bagwell, who apologizes for being out of breath. He has had to put Scott Steiner in the ambulancebut before he can say anything else, the wicked laughter is heard again, and Buff briefly thinks it is Okerlund until Okerlund says otherwise. Buff then says he has three ruptured discs in his lower back, and that Scott is hurt and that the match at Halloween Havoc may not happen. He then tells Rick Steiner to suck it up.

Before the next match, Ernest "The Cat" Miller tells Psychosis he is a three-time world karate champion, and that he can tear him apart in seconds. He gives him the count of five to leave the ring, and if he is still there, he will give him the beating of his life. Psychosis does not even leave, due to him not knowing English. Upon finding this out, The Cat then hits Psychosis with a standing side kick.

Ernest "The Cat" Miller beats Psychosis. After the match, The Cat declares that he is the greatest and that he is a bad man.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews Alex Wright, who immediately starts speaking German before realizing Okerlund cannot speak German and calls him an old midget. He then asks the crowd how it feels to grow up in a city like Rochester, New York, and says it makes them feel like losers. He then says he sees another loser in the locker room who is "shaking like a leaf:" The British Bulldog. He says Bulldog is spineless because he did not answer his challenge at Thunder last week, and gives him another chance to come out to the ring. He also says he is much better looking and a much better wrestler, he is also a much better dancer. His music hits and Wright starts dancing, then the next match happens.

Disco Inferno beats Chavo Guerrero, Jr. after jabbing the stick of Pepe into Chavo Guerrero's throat behind the referee's back. Juventud Guerrera shows up and tries to tell the referee what happened, but Disco beats him up, once after he shows up and again as Juvi checks on Chavo.

We see a video package of The Four Horsemen ("The Nature Boy" Ric Flair, "The Enforcer' Arn Anderson, "The Crippler" Chris Benoit, Steve "Mongo" McMichael, Dean Malenko).

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews The Four Horsemen ("The Nature Boy" Ric Flair, "The Enforcer' Arn Anderson, "The Crippler" Chris Benoit, Steve "Mongo" McMichael, Dean Malenko). Eric Bischoff, Stevie Ray and head of WCW security Doug Dellinger show up before Flair can even get started, and they bring local law enforcement with him. Bischoff tells Flair that felony assault charges have been filed against him from putting his hands on Stevie Ray on Thunder. He orders that the Horsemen be arrested along with Dellinger, who he says failed to do his job that night. Bischoff then brings up Flair's younger son Reid again, and calls Flair a disgrace before saying Flair is a coward then and a coward now. He also attests that Flair lives vicariously through his ten-year-old son's wrestling career.

Chris Jericho heads to the ring with his own personal security in a parody of Goldberg's entrance again. This time around, they find the ring much faster than they did at Fall Brawl. When Goldberg shows up this time, it is the real deal, and Goldberg carries the man who played the fake Goldberg over his shoulder. A surprised Jericho shoves two of his personal security into the path of Goldberg, who immediately Spears both of them and Jackhammers one. Jericho flees, and Goldberg tells him he is next.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews Diamond Dallas Page. DDP says he and Goldberg respect each other, but at the same time, they have a highly competitive nature. When he thinks about getting in the ring with Goldberg, it takes him to a whole new level much like Sammy Sosa and Mark McGuire. He knows that he is not the only one wanting the World title as The Four Horsemen ("The Nature Boy" Ric Flair, "The Enforcer' Arn Anderson, "The Crippler" Chris Benoit, Steve "Mongo" McMichael, Dean Malenko), nWo Hollywood and nWo Wolfpac all want it, too. He says the Horsemen may be for a long time, nWo Hollywood forever and nWo Wolfpac for life, but at Halloween Havoc, he will be for real.

Scott Hall beats Kidman. During the match, Scott Hall tries to get a drink again (despite Vincent telling him he has to win before he can get drunk), but Kidman punches him in the gut mid-sip.

Pyrotechnics signal the start of the third hour.

Before the next match, The British Bulldog says Alex Wright can dance all he wants, but he's been all over the world and Eight can't even lace the boots of his 11-year-old son in the back. He then tells Alex Wright to "suck it."

The British Bulldog vs. Alex Wright ends in a no-contest. During the match, Alex Wright's boot knocks down referee Billy Silverman as The British Bulldog puts Wright in a power slam. Referee Charles Robinson shows up as The Bulldog tries to revive Silverman. Wright pins Bulldog with a gut wrench suplex, and both referees get in the ring and count at the same time. Since both men have their shoulders down at the same time, Billy Silverman believes Bulldog won, but Charles Robinson says Alex Wright won. Wright attacks Bulldog after the match. During the replay, it is is seen that both men got their shoulder up at the same time.

We see a performance by The Nitro Girls.

A fan is seen standing in front of Kevin Nash on the stage before the next match.

Kevin Nash beats Brian Adams by disqualification after Stevie Ray and Vincent shows up and Stevie Ray hits Nash with a slapjack. Scott Hall, now with a drink in his hand, shows up, then dumps the drink out of the cup before punching and kicking at Nash. Lex Luger and Konnan then rush into the ring, and the black-and-white nWo members scurry out of the ring.

Lex Luger and Konnan beat Barry Darsow and Hugh Morrus with a Torture Rack on Barry Darsow. Konnan gets a Tequila Sunrise on Morrus just before the match ends.

We see another performance by The Nitro Girls.

Hollywood Hogan vs. Bret "The Hit Man" Hart ends in a no-contest. During the match, Hogan works on Bret's injured knee, and Sting, Lex Luger and Konnan have to defend Bret from Hogan. Bret tries to get back in the ring, but Sting, Luger and Konnan tell him he is in no shape to fight, and Bret is placed on a gurney . Sting then takes his trenchcoat off, and Sting takes the match. (This ends up being the only time Hogan and Bret face each other in the ring.) As Konnan and Luger take Bret to an ambulance, Scott Steiner and Buff Bagwell - dressed as surgeons - attack them. Scott Steiner unhooks Bret from the gurney, and Bret limps back to the ring. He gets back in the ring, cheers Sting on and then suddenly hits Sting with a DDT before pummeling him. Hogan bows down to Bret "The Hit Man" Hart who is not even hurt, and Bret puts Sting in the Sharpshooter. Hogan then tosses Bret a steel chair, and Bret catches it before smashing it into Sting's knee and putting him in a Figure Four Leg Lock on the ring post. Hogan mocks Sting, saying Sting has quit, then Konnan rushes to ringside, as does Luger. Luger and Konnan help Sting out of the ring.

Raw Deal - Raw recap for September 28, 1998

RAW

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin's music hits to start tonight's show, but instead the crowd gets WWF owner Vince McMahon, Pat Patterson, Gerald Brisco, WWF Commissioner Sgt. Slaughter and a squad of police officers. Vince is seen holding Austin's custom-made WWF Championship belt. He tells the crowd that he knew they would be upset with him, but time heals all wounds, and the next time he says he will guarantee them something, they will listen to him. All he ever wanted from Austin was to listen to him and taken direction, but he did not want to do it and he had to remove the title from him the hard way. Now he is doing things his way, and he ensures that there will be no re-match for the WWF Championship for Austin. However, in a "magnanimous gesture," he will show he does not carry a grudge against Austin by declaring tonight "'Stone Cold' Steve Austin Night" and will celebrate his career. Vince then says he has a "welcoming committee" in the form of a police perimeter by Detroit, Michigan's finest to ensure Austin has "easy access." He also announces that a new WWF Champion will be crowned tonight and presented the championship - the official one, and not Austin's custom-made belt which will go above the fireplace on the mantle at one of his homes with all his other awards. Vince then asks Austin if he will be part of the ceremony, then asks Sgt. Slaughter to place Austin's custom-made WWF Championship around his waist.

Before the next match, "Road Dogg" Jesse James announces that he has his voice back.

Southern Justice (Mark Canterbury and Dennis Knight) beat The New Age Outlaws ("Road Dogg" Jesse James and "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn) by disqualification after Road Dogg takes "Double J" Jeff Jarrett's guitar away from him as he tries to get involved and uses it as a weapon. Billy Gunn confronts Road Dogg, telling him he had the match won, and when X-Pac tries to play peacemaker, Billy Gunn pushes him back, poking him in his injured eye. Billy Gunn leaves, and when Chyna and a wheelchair-bound "Triple H" Hunter Hearst Helmsley confront Gunn, Gunn pushes them away and heads to the back.

Dan "The Beast" Severn is seen welcoming the Detroit Red Wings hockey team at the front row before the next match.

Michael Cole is near D-Generation X's locker room, where a very loud argument can be heard.

Dan "The Beast" Severn vs Owen Hart ends when Owen hits Severn with a piledriver. The piledriver makes it impossible for Severn to move his arms after his head hits the mat.

After a commercial break, Dan "The Beast" Severn is fitted with a neck brace and placed onto a stretcher.

After another break, Dan "The Beast" Severn is wheeled out of the arena and into an ambulance.

Before the next match, Vader shows up with WWF Commissioner Sgt. Slaughter.

Al Snow beats Vader after using Head as a weapon while WWF Commissioner Sgt. Slaughter distracts the referee.

"Bad Ass" Billy Gunn is seen leaving the arena with his bags.

D'Lo Brown beats Gangrel, "Double J" Jeff Jarrett, Darren "Puke" Drozdov, "Marvelous" Marc Mero and Edge in a Four Corners Match to become #1 contender to the WWF European Championship. (During this match, two men are in the ring, while the other wait to be tagged in.) Jarrett and Droz are both counted out after they fight each other outside of the ring Mero is eliminated when D'Lo Brown hits him with a Lo-Down meant for Edge. D'Lo Brown beats Edge after the young man with the long brown hair shows up and distracts Edge, and this time this young man is seen with Gangrel, who has already been eliminated. Both the young man and Gangrel leave through the crowd together.

WAR ZONE

WWF owner Vince McMahon, Pat Patterson, Gerald Brisco, WWF Commissioner Sgt. Slaugher and a host of Detroit, Michigan policeman show up for the crowning of a new WWF Champion. The ring has red carpet, and in the center is a podium with the official WWF Championship belt under glass. Vince introduces The Undertaker, then Kane. Before Vince can even get started, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin shows up...on a Zamboni. He rides the Zamboni into the arena, runs it into the ring, climbs out, and jumps from the front of the Zamboni onto Vince McMahon. Jim Ross screams the iconic line "Austin got McMahon! Austin got McMahon!" The police quickly move into place and arrest Austin, who still tries to fight Vince despite being handcuffed. Austin is taken out of the ring and escorted into a squad car, and Austin says towards the camera "I'm not through with ya, Vince! I ain't through with ya, not yet, by a long shot!" Vince follows, screaming at Austin "Take his ass to jail! You go to jail, you son of a bitch! You go to jail!" as the police tell him to calm down. Austin tries to get out of the back of the police car, and Vince dares them to let him go so he can fight him. Austin is placed back in the car, and the car drives off.

After the commercial break, the WWF Championship ceremony gets underway. WWF owner Vince McMahon, The Undertaker and Kane are in the ring, and reminds them that they would get a title shot if they could keep "Stone Cold" Steve Austin away from him. However, after being attacked by Austin three times in the span of a week, they did not live up to their end of the deal and he will not live up to his, and that they will have to fight for the title shot at Judgment Day on October 18th. Since they can't keep Austin out of his business - or theirs - he will put Austin in the match as special guest referee. Vince then hopes his cellmate is telling him all this, because he will be there to watch Austin suffer the indignity of making the three count and handing the WWF Championship to one of them. To ensure that the fans are not cheated tonight, The Undertaker and Kane will be in a handicap match against "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock, Mankind and "The Rock" Rocky Maivia. He wishes them the best of luck, as they will both need it, and as far as he is concerned, it is like dealing with the handicapped, saying "one is physical, the other mental." THe Undertaker grabs Vince, takes the microphone, and tells Vince to watch his ass, as the next time he gets out of line with either of them, he will be the one handicapped and he will promise that. Vince tries to flip them the bird from behind, but The Undertaker sees it and he and Kane beat him up. Kane leaves as The Undertaker tries to break Vince's knee, and patrols the ring in case Pat Patterson or Gerald Brisco try to pull Vince out of the ring. Kane ends up getting his hands on Brisco and sending him into the steel steps, then The Undertaker and Kane move Vince to the steel steps, where Vince's knee is sandwiched between both parts of the steps. Kane and The Undertaker leave, with Vince unable to move due to his knee being shattered.

We see footage of WWF owner Vince McMahon being held down on a stretcher, with referees, officials and medical staff waiting for an ambulance. Mankind tries to give Vince a drink, which Vince does not take.

Chyna is special guest referee for the next match.

Faarooq beats "The World's Strongest Man" Mark Henry after Chyna hits Mark Henry with a low blow, allowing Faarooq to fall on him. After the match, as Chyna looks down at Mark Henry, a man in a suit shows up and places something in her hand. Jim Ross says that it looks like the man is a process server. It is an Airborne Express delivery with a document inside. Chyna tears it up and leaves.

WWF owner Vince McMahon is placed in an ambulance backstage.

Michael Cole interviews "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock, who says he doesn't like Detroit, Michigan much and doesn't like what happened to him last night, either. He tells "The Rock" Rocky Maivia, Mankind, The Undertaker and Kane he owes every single of them, and he hasn't forgotten about what Mankind did to him with a steel chair.

We see a vignette of Steven Regal: a real man's man. Here, we see him using a construction digger.

The Oddities (Golga and Kurrgan) beat The Headbangers (Thrasher and Mosh) after Luna Vachon distracts the referee so Insane Clown Posse (Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope) can trip Thrasher, allowing Kurrgan to hit a splash for the win.

Michael Cole interviews "The Rock" Rocky Maivia. The Rock says he did what he was going to do when he headed to Break Down: In Your House. He is okay with what's going on tonight as he is the #1 contender for the WWF Championship, and whether anyone likes it or not, there is nothing that could ever compare to being The People's Champion.

Val Venis is seen being given oral sex (though not explicitly) in the locker room. Val Venis asks Terri Runnels if she found the earrings she dropped, to which she raises her head up, replies "not yet" before going back down.

Before the next match, Val Venis says he is here in "Motor City," and says everyone knows what that means. He tells the ladies to show him their headlights, as he is about to drive them all night long.

Val Venis beats X-Pac by disqualification. During the match, Chyna shows up after Terri Runnels trips X-Pac, and Val Venis approaches Chyna as she tries to chase after Terri. Chyna and X-Pac beat up Val Venis outside of the ring. X-Pac retains the WWF European Championship. Val Venis and Terri Runnels then make out inside the ring, then all of sudden, the Goldust entrance theme and video plays on the TitanTron. Dustin Runnels' voice is heard telling Venis "I told you he was coming back," then gold dust falls from the top of the arena.

Michael Cole interviews Mankind, who says two things became apparent after Break Down: he can swing a mighty chair, and in the entire history of professional wrestling, The People's Elbow was the worst move he's ever thing he had ever seen. He hopes that he, "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock and "The Rock" Rocky Maivia will get on the same page so they can all beat The Undertaker and Kane tonight.

"The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock, Mankind and "The Rock" Rocky Maivia all fight each other before The Undertaker and Kane show up for the next match.

"The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock, Mankind and "The Rock" Rocky Maivia beat The Undertaker and Kane in a 3-on-2 handicap match after The Rock hits The Undertaker with a Rock Bottom.
