Generation NXT - NXT recap for September 22, 2026

The show starts with a video package for The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, narrated by "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes.

Noam Dar and Romeo Moreno beat Los Americanos (Rayo Americano and Bravo Americano) to advance in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

We see Kendal Grey talk with the sports psychologist. She says that the hardest part of being out is that she cannot fight for what she lost, and also how she had to redshirt in her freshman year due to injury. She says that this time feels different. She knew she would be cleared for the next season in college, but this time, she has no timetable for her return, everything is gone in the snap of a finger and she is afraid that she will not come back the same. The sports psychologist asks Kendal Grey to think about who she is if she is not competing. Kendal says "I don't know."

Grammy-nominated recording artist Jimmie Allen is seen in the crowd.

Skylar Raye beats Kali Armstrong. During the match, Kali Armstrong inadvertently knocks the referee out of the ring with the Kali Connection when Skylar Raye does it. Shortly after this, Reina Volcan shows up and attacks both women. When referee Dallas Irving comes to, Skylar's arm is draped over Kali Armstrong, and Skylar Raye gets the win.

Backstage, General Manager Robert Stone meets with Shiloh Hill and Saquon Shugars, who both want Naraku and Tristan Angels, respectively. After both men scheme about how to deal with their current target with mist and parking lot attacks, Stone tells them to get back with him next week.

In backstage footage from an hour ago, Wren Sinclair is escorted from the premises by security and General Manager Robert Stone due to her suspension.

La Catalina and Thea Hail beat Kelani Jordan and Zaria after Thea Hail counters the F5 from Zaria into a sunset flip into a jackknife pin.

Backstage, Zilla Fatu and "Super" Sean Legacy mention Dorian Van Dux's punctured lung regarding their match against Birthright (Lexis King, Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo, Uriah Connors) tonight. Dorian shows up and says he can go, but Sean reminds him he has a hole in his lung. EK Prosper shows up, and he is Zilla and Legacy's third man.

Cruz Montana heads to the ring. Montana says that he made his intentions clear since entering NXT and that he is learning lessons instead of taking losses, then says he will be watching who wins the NXT Championship before DarkState (Dion Lennox, Cutler James, Osiris Griffin) shows up in the crowd. Lennox says that Montana does a good job of making himself sound more important than he really is, then says that DarkState will run through the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. Montana says Lennox talks tough when he has his crew, then tells him to face him in the ring like a man. Lennox says Montana was the guy in TNA and won titles in every promotions, then says that does not make Montana better than him and that Montana shakes at the very idea of structure. He says he will never relate to "eating dirt like [Montana] did" on the subject of Montana calling EK Prosper "the future." Montana says he cleaned up his own mistakes, spent years overcoming demons and learned from some of the best in the game. Montana says he has paid his dues every step of the way and earned everything he has been blessed with in and out of the ring, and that Lennox has nothing on him and that he could have used some of that. Montana says he can run rings around Lennox in every aspect of the business every single day, and says Lennox walked into wrestling because he could not cut it anywhere else, including the NFL, while he earned his way in. Montana says he carries his city, his family and his people on his back while Lennox thinks he is entitled to what he wants. Lennox mentions Montana's mother being a drug dealer, saying his wasn't and that he did things right to the point WWE begged him to be here. He then notes that despite that, the fans hate him but love Montana because Montana was a drug dealer who has it all together and walks around like a hero when he became the man he should have been from day one. Lennox says Montana had to lose everything to become somebody while he has been somebody his entire life. Montana punches him in the face, and officials have to break up the brawl as it heads to the back.

Backstage, General Manager Robert Stone congratulates Mason Rook on becoming #1 contender for the NXT Championship and has given him an open mic tonight. Hank Walker and Tank Ledger tell Mason Rook to go with his gut tonight. Mason Rook leaves, then Hank and Tank address the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, saying that they are helping themselves to the tag team division for the time being.

The Creed Brothers (Julius and Brutus Creed) beat Jax Presley and Harley Riggins to advance in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

In this week's NXT Spotlight, we look back on Myles Borne's betrayal of Tavion Heights from last week.

Birthright (Lexis King, Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo, Uriah Connors) beat Zilla Fatu, EK Prosper and "Super" Sean Legacy in a six-man tag match after Arianna Grace distracts the referee, keeping EK Prosper from tagging in and allowing Uriah Connors to take advantage and pin Sean Legacy with an inside cradle for the win. After the match, Lexis King gets in Zilla Fatu's face, and Zilla smacks him before Stacks can save Lexis King from the Triple Z.

Backstage, Emily Agard interviews Zaria, who says there is a difference between beating her in a tag match and beating her in a championship match. All of a sudden, some old footage shows up on the nearby monitor as Izzi Dame shows up. Zaria leaves embarrassed, and Izzi says no good deed goes unpunished.

Grayson Waller heads to the ring. He is soon joined by Mason Rook, and the two of them have a face-to-face meeting in the ring. Grayson refuses to let Mason have a microphone before asking if the spotlight is too bright before saying it is where he wants to be, then says he is bringing prestige back to the NXT Championship against the best and that nobody is better - or hungrier - than Mason Rook. Grayson addresses all they left behind to chase their dreams, then states that they are not the same before mocking Mason and stating he could roast Mason like a pig in a luau with a twenty-minute stand-up routine before giving Mason credit where credit is due. He says that Mason has so much potential, but is not willing to do that much extra hard work to become what he is meant to be, then says that Mason is soft, complacent and happy to be here, then says he will take Mason to the deepest waters and drown him. After stating that Mason will eventually quit against him, then hands him the microphone. Mason tells Grayson that he is not an idiot, then says there is a theory about why Grayson in NXT and that he did not quite fit the vision on the main roster. He also mentions that unlike Grayson, John Cena knew who he was before he stepped in a WWE ring, then says he will not play Grayson's game because Grayson cannot play his. Mason then asks what will really happen when the bell rings. Mason says Grayson will drown in his deepest water and that he is here because he earned the right to be in WWE by being the best big man in the ring, and that as great as Grayson is at running his mouth, he will realize that he is over his head and his promo skills will not save him.
