Raw Deal - Raw recap for May 3, 2021

In backstage footage from earlier today, Adam Pearce is about to flip a coin when Drew McIntyre shows up and tells MVP he is taking the WWE Championship back. Braun Strowman shows up and says he will beat Lashley for the title like he will beat McIntyre tonight. Strowman and McIntyre argue, then the coin is tossed. Strowman wins the coin toss and gets Bobby Lashley in a match tonight, and Strowman says tonight will be a preview. McIntyre tells Strowman that he will be coming for him once he becomes WWE Champion, then MVP says that Lashley will be coming back for the WWE Championship as well.

"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles and Omos head to the ring. Styles celebrates their tag team title victory at WrestleMania and says that Omos will wreck The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods) tonight like he did at WrestleMania, then Styles asks the fans if they missed them. He says that the two of them went to celebrate after winning the WWE Raw Tag Team Championships because they had better things to do than throwing tomatoes, then states that he is officially a Grand Slam Champion in WWE after five years. As Styles continues to talk, The New Day show up, and Woods admits that Styles and Omos made an impact before he and Kofi make fun of them taking time off before Kofi says they are 11-time tag team champions because they get back up when they are down. Kofi says that Styles can crack at their accomplishments if they want to, then says that while his greatest match was physically draining, he showed up the following night despite not having a match. Kofi then says taking a month off is not what The New Day does. Omos says he has had enough of The New Day joking around and says he has not knocked enough sense into them, and says The New Day will not be able to walk when he gets done with them.

"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles and Omos retain the WWE Raw Tag Team Championships against The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods).

Backstage, Sonya Deville speaks with Charlotte Flair, then Adam Pearce shows up and confronts Sonya, saying she has been overstepping her bounds recently.

We see a vignette for Eva Marie, who is sitting on a red Ferrari and asking if she has our attention. She says she has been thinking about where she has been and where she is going, and says that she has been on the road of live and wants to give back. She says she is back where her journey started and that "The Eva-lution" has begun.

Backstage, Kayla Braxon interviews MVP and Bobby Lashley. MVP says that Braun Strowman's luck ran out after the coin toss, and that he is not lucky enough to change the outcome of tonight's match. He says that Strowman should be lucky - or unlucky - to be in the ring with Lashley, and says that Strowman and Drew McIntyre cannot compared to Lashley despite being ferocious warriors. Lashley says he is more than a beast or a ferocious warrior, and that he has to be to keep the WWE Championship. MVP then says the Strowman Express will be derailed tonight.

Backstage, Elias and Jaxson Ryker throw tomatoes at The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods), but end up hitting Randy Orton instead. Matt Riddle rides by on his scooter.

Charlotte Flair beats Dana Brooke with the Figure Eight. Mandy Rose attacks Charlotte Flair to break the hold after the match. WWE official Sonya Deville then shows up. After the commercial break, Deville says she has allowed Charlotte Flair to make a proposal. Charlotte says that she was taken aback by Asuka and Rhea Ripley going at it for the WWE Raw Women's Championship and being left out of the action again. Charlotte says that she snapped Asuka's undefeated streak and put Rhea Ripley on the map last year, then says that Asuka took her opportunity. She says she is happy to be reinstated, but she says that WrestleMania Backlash will not be a big deal without her. She says that Asuka and Rhea Ripley can only take the women's division so far, and that she is the only who can take it further because she is an influencer and a locker room leader. Charlotte tells Sonya she made the right decision in reinstating her, and says that the women's division and the fans need her before demanding a match of her worth and demanding she be in the WWE Raw Women's Championship Match at WrestleMania Backlash. After Charlotte tells Sonya to "be fair to Flair," Sonya adds her to the match. Rhea Ripley then shows up, saying she has put up with enough from Charlotte's mouth and calls the decision "absolute crap," saying nobody likes Charlotte. Rhea says she is confident she can beat Asuka one-on-one because she already did and became champion, then calls this "part of Sonya's plan" before Asuka shows up. Asuka also calls this "crap" before calling Charlotte a whining, crying baby before saying it does not matter, as she can beat both Charlotte and Rhea and become Raw Women's Champion again. Charlotte says this is why she is better than Rhea Ripley and Asuka, for they both lose their minds when thrown one curveball, then says she will leave WrestleMania Backlash as champion. Rhea Ripley confronts Sonya, then Charlotte attacks Rhea from behind. Asuka then attacks Charlotte from behind and stands tall in the ring.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Humberto Carrillo. Humberto says Sheamus is a tough guy who bullies everyone, then says he knows what it is like to be bullied and will not be disrespected. As he says he will challenge Sheamus, Sheamus attacks him from behind.

Backstage, Adam Pearce confronts Sonya Deville and says she is coming close to abusing her power. Sonya says that she tried to text him and could not find her, and says they should be making decisions together.

Before the next match, The Miz says that he and John Morrison were humiliated by a "sophomoric, juvenile prank" when Damian Priest and The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods) threw tomatoes at them. The Miz says that this is not befitting of somebody who has accomplished what he has and says he should not be subjected to this kind of disrespect, yet when he wants respect, he is the bad guy. Miz then says John Morrison has no choice but to beat respect into Damian Priest.

Damian Priest beats John Morrison despite interference attempts by The Miz.

Backstage, Mansoor signs a contract that makes him part of the Raw roster when Sheamus shows up and says that the rumor of Humberto Carrillo does have a leg to stand on. Sheamus then notices Mansoor, and tells him that if he were to challenge him tonight, the fans would get to know him when the WWE United States Championship meets the side of his head.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Bobby Lashley vs. Braun Strowman should not even be happening, much like the Triple Threat Match at WrestleMania Backlash, after all that Lashley has had to go through to get here. He also says it does not surprise him that Strowman and Drew McIntyre teamed up to get rid of Lashley and have their one-on-one match, then tells Kayla to watch what Lashley does to Strowman tonight.

The Lucha House Party (Gran Metalik and Lince Dorado) beat Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin. After the match, Cedric yells at Shelton, saying they went from being tag team champions to this, and says it is no wonder that MVP and Bobby Lashley kicked them out of The Hurt Business before saying he should have turned his back on him, too. He asks Shelton Benjamin how much time he has spent wasting opportunities and how much time has left, then says he is in the prime of his life and is tired of keeping his alive, and says that their partnership is over.

Backstage, Drew Gulak finds Angel Garza and says that he can't score despite being a ladies' man and that his rose smells worse than his win-loss record, then challenges him to a match and says he will be the one smelling roses. Garza says that he is the one who is going to win and that the rose is going up Gulak's ass.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Shelton Benjamin, who says he has survived a long time in the business because he can take the hit, and while he has seen young guys come and go, he saw something in Cedric Alexander that nobody else did. He says that if Cedric does not want to take the hit and learn from him, that is fine, but he will respect him or else Cedric will end up another young star who fizzles out while he continues to survive.

Angel Garza beats Drew Gulak.

After the match, Garza sticks his rose in Gulak's tights and kicks him in the butt after sticking the rose near Gulak's nose.

Backstage, Matt Riddle meets with The Viking Raiders (Ivar and Erik) and talks about the NFL draft - and finds out Erik is a Browns fan - before meeting with Randy Orton. Orton proposes they have another match as a team after having only one match, then proposes that Riddle get serious.

Randy Orton and Matt Riddle beat Elias and Jaxson Ryker.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Drew McIntyre, who says that he does not care who wins between Braun Strowman and Bobby Lashley are long as they beat the crap out of each other. As for Mace and T-Bar, he has more questions than answers, and says what is meant to be will be, which is caving Braun Strowman's head in to become the WWE Champion. Strowman shows up and says he earned his opportunity last week, and says he will walk out of WrestleMania Backlash as WWE Champion. McIntyre says that may or may not happen, and tells him to leave. Strowman does.

Sheamus vs. Mansoor ends with Humberto Carrillo running into the ring and attacking Sheamus. Carrillo fights back after what happened backstage earlier in the show, but he gets a Brogue Kick, as does Mansoor.

It's time for Alexa's Playground. Alexa Bliss says Lilly likes to play hide-and-seek, but that Lilly has been found in some interesting positions, and where Lilly seems to go, trouble follows. Alexa then says that somebody may have caught Lilly's eyes, but she cannot reveal who that is yet. Alexa then says not to blame her for what happens next.

Nia Jax and "The Queen of Spades" Shayna Baszler quickly retain the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships against Lana and Naomi with the Kirifuda Clutch from Baszler to Lana following the distraction from Reginald.

Backstage, MVP says that Braun Strowman may be one of the strongest individuals he has seen, but he is not as strong as Bobby Lashley. He says the next match will be between two bulls who can tear bone from flesh, and that one bull will walk out and his name is Bobby Lashley.

Bobby Lashley beats Braun Strowman after Lashley throws Strowman into Drew McIntyre - who guests on commentary in the middle of the match and distracts Strowman on the way there - and McIntyre distracts Strowman afterwards. After the match, McIntyre hits Lashley with a Claymore before doing the same to Strowman. It is then announced that McIntyre and Lashley will square off next week.

Raw Talk: Rhea Ripley takes aim at Charlotte Flair and Sonya Deville.

Here are the top ten moments from tonight's show!
