Raw Deal - Raw recap for April 13, 1998

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin shows up to start tonight's show. He wants to set some things straight between himself and WWF owner Vince McMahon, and calls him out, saying he'll hold the show up if he has to and that if he shows right now, he has his word that he won't knock his lights out. He then tells someone to pass him a beer if he's going to wait, and says he'll wait until Vince shows up, telling Vince he won't have him telling him what he can and can't do every single week. Vince shows up with Gerald Brisco and Pat Patterson, and Austin promises Vince he won't hit him. Vince then brings out two policemen in riot gear, and they all get in the ring. Austin wants to know who his opponent is at Unforgiven, and Vince tells him he hasn't made up his mind yet. Austin takes this as Vince withholding information from him, but Vince says he'll know soon. Austin then brings up the fact that Vince can't seem to stand anything about him, whether it be drinking beer, his colorful language, or being the opposite of what Vince thinks a WWF Champion should be. Austin says he can accept that fact, and knows he doesn't fit the bill. Austin then comes to the conclusion that Vince doesn't want someone like him to be the WWF Champion, but instead wants to be the WWF Championship himself. Austin says that before he brought out the new version of the WWF Championship two weeks ago, Vince probably paraded around in his house in his pajamas, and that when Vince asked his wife how he looked as the WWF Champion, she told him he looked like a jackass, because he does. Austin says he knows that Vince loves it as a promoter when the WWF Championship is put on the line, and decides to do just that. Austin then decides to put the title on the line against Vince himself, and asks the fans to give him a "hell yeah" if they want to see the match before asking Vince if he accepts the challenge. Vince doesn't answer right away, and Austin tells him they can do this the easy way or the hard way and that the people love it when he does things the hard way. Vince asks for Austin's definition of the easy way and the hardy way. The easy way, according to Austin, is Vince hand-picking any WWF official in the back, coming back to the ring and fighting him for the WWF Championship. Austin says he is giving Vince to win the championship, and says he could very well beat Vince with one hand tied behind his back. Vince then asks what the hard way is, and Austin says he'll hand-pick one of the cameraman, take them of the office and beat his ass in front of the world anyway. Austin gives Vince 30 minutes to make up his mind, and says he's not going anywhere and neither is Vince, as Austin beat up his limo driver and gave the limo four flat tires. Austin then asks for one more "hell yeah" from the crowd if they want to see the match, then heads to the back.

Backstage, WWF owner Vince McMahon talks with Gerald Brisco and Pat Patterson, who both tell him that he has to put an end to everything between him and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, telling him he broke the rest and that it's time to break Austin.

D-Generation X ("Triple H" Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Chyna, X-Pac, "Road Dog" Jesse James, "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn) watch the next match from ringside.

The Chain Match between Los Boricuas (Savio Vega and Jose Estrada, Jr.) vs. The Disciples of Apocalypse (Skull and 8-Ball) ends in carnage. During the match, D-Generation X ("Triple H" Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Chyna, X-Pac, "Road Dog" Jesse James, "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn) take Chainz out of commission with steel chairs before Triple H puts Chainz in a Pedigree onto a steel chair. DX then hits Chainz with a tandem spike piledriver on the ramp before attacking Skull and 8-Ball alongside Savio Vega and Jose Estrada. The bell rings, and DX continue their carnage on Skull and 8-Ball as the referee tries in vain to restore order. They then decide to make Vega and Estrada members of DX, but Chyna hits both of them with punches to the groin before DX beats them up, too. Savio Vega is hit with a Pedigree as Chainz is placed on a stretcher.

WWF owner Vince McMahon talks with Gerald Brisco and Pat Patterson as well as his son Shane McMahon backstage. Brisco wants Vince to take the fight to Austin, but Shane tries to talk his dad out of it, saying he will get hurt.

WWF owner Vince McMahon shows up alone before the next match, and says something to the referee. Aguila, Pantera, "Too Sexy" Brian Christopher and "Too Hot" Scott Taylor leave the ring so Vince can speak. Vince says that the WWF has been a part of his heritage for the last 50 years, from his grandfather to his father to himself, and hopes that the heritage continues with his son and daughter and with the succeeding generations thereafter. He says the WWF has always been about honor and integrity, "qualities that are sorely lacking in our current World Wrestling Federation Champion." He says "Stone Cold" Steve Austin has no honor or integrity, and he knows the decision he makes tonight will not sit will with those who preceded him, but nevertheless, "sometimes a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do." He then says "Oh, hell yeah" to "Stone Cold" Steve Austin's challenge. Gerald Brisco and Pat Patterson show up, applauding Vince and follow him to the back. Michael Cole says this match shouldn't happen, and Jim Ross leaves commentary and heads to the back, saying he will do what he can to make sure it doesn't. As he heads to the back, the lights turn off, but instead of Kane, it's The Undertaker. The Undertaker gets into the ring, choke slams Aguila and Pantera, then does the same to Scott Taylor before hitting him with a Tombstone Piledriver. "Too Sexy" Brian Christopher pulls Scott Taylor out of the ring, having been the only wrestler to escape. The Undertaker grabs the microphone and tells Kane it's time to show him what evil is all about, saying that Kane is now the hunted and not the hunter. He feels Kane's presence in the building, and says tonight will go on for eternity until he shows his face and comes out from the darkness.

Kevin Kelly is in the back. He says nobody will be able to talk WWF owner Vince McMahon out of fighting "Stone Cold" Steve Austin backstage, not even Jim Ross. Vince tells Shane to get into the car, get his gym bag, and bring it back. He then tells J.R. to head back to commentary.

Leaflets of "Double J" Jeff Jarrett's gig with Sawyer Brown at Unforgiven in two weeks' time drop down from the top of the arena as Jarrett makes his way to the ring before the next match.

Taka Michinoku beats "Double J" Jeff Jarrett by disqualification after the three men from last week - now known as "Club Kamikaze" - come out of the crowd, attack Taka, and escape through the crowd. During the match, "The Lethal Weapon" Steve Blackman there's no telling when he will get his revenge on Jarrett, but promises Jarrett he will see him again as revenge is sweet. Tennessee Lee then briefly guests on commentary afterwards to further promote Jarrett's performance with country music band Sawyer Brown at Unforgiven. After Club Kamikaze leave, Jarrett puts Taka in the Figure Four Leg Lock.

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin says he is not surprised that WWF owner Vince McMahon accepted his challenge, as he didn't given much of a choice. He knows Vince got bad advice, but he knows this was going to be settled sooner or later and that it will all be settled tonight.

Vince McMahon, now dressed more for a fight rather than for business, continues to talk with Gerald Brisco and Pat Patterson backstage, who give him advice on how to counter the Stone Cold Stunner.

Faarooq, now with tape around his ribs and with new entrance music, shows up. He knows "The Rock" Rocky Maivia is in the back and that he and the whole world can see him in the ring right now. He says that The Rock cracked his rib and bruised his body, but says it takes a lot more to whup his ass. He says he gave him and the rest of The Nation (D'Lo Brown, Kama Mustafa, "The World's Strongest Man" Mark Henry) the chance of a lifetime and is now giving them another chance to finish kicking his ass right now as he calls them out. The Nation shows up, and The Rock says Faarooq is still half-ignorant from the beating from last week, and gives him a chance to smell what he's cooking tonight. The Rock says he has a big hand, and that he'll lay the smackdown whenever he pleases and that the only two things Faarooq can do is nothing and like it. The Rock tells Faarooq that if he think he's ready to take The Nation on again, then he should consider himself warned and that this is the final thrill. Faarooq raises his fist, and "The Lethal Weapon" Steve Blackman and "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock show up on the stage behind The Nation and raise their fists in response before starting a big brawl that officials and referees try desperately to quell.

Chainsaw Charlie - now going by his real name of Terry Funk - introduces his new partner, saying that Cactus Jack "waddled out" and said he was quitting because the fans were cheering for "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. He says he could give a damn what the fans chant, as he is not a quitter and he will put funk in everyone's faced as his partner is and always been hardcore, and says Vince has never given him a chance. He then says "Bring out the funk!" repeatedly, and out comes Flash Funk, now going by the name 2 Cold Scorpio.

Terry Funk and 2 Cold Scorpio beat The Quebecers (Jacques and Pierre).

Luna Vachon shows up, and says the anticipation for Unforgiven is worse than PMS. The flow of her adrenaline is so severe that she wants to settle it with Sable right now, and calls Sable out.

The intro to War Zone plays to signal the start of the second hour.

After the War Zone intro, The Artist Formerly Known As Goldust shows up, dressed in drag and mocking Sable. Luna gets Goldust with a double leg takedown and tries to rip his gown off. It doesn't take long for the real Sable to run into the ring and go after Luna, and referees and officials have to separate the two women.

"The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock and Dan "The Beast" Severn stare down before the next match. Severn is then asked to head to the back by the referee, and Severn does.

The team of "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock and "The Lethal Weapon" Steve Blackman and The New Midnight Express ("Bombastic" Bob Holly and "Bodacious" Bart Gunn) wrestle to a double disqualification when neither team listens to the referee's commands.

Pat Patterson and Gerald Brisco pump up WWF owner Vince McMahon backstage. After the break, Kevin Kelly interviews Vince, who says he would be lying if he's got butterflies in his stomach, but he was not afraid of the United States Government, Ted Turner and Time Warner, the big bad wolf and is not afraid of "Stone Cold" Steve Austin.

The Undertaker shows up before the next match, and The Headbangers (Thrasher and Mosh) both fall victim to choke slams. The lights go out, then Kane and Paul Bearer show up. Bearer says that if The Undertaker wants to fight Kane, he'll have to do it on his terms. He announces that The Undertaker will face his brother next week, but instead of in the ring, he will meet them in the cemetery and they will fight each other on their parents' graves. Bearer says that they will leave The Undertaker there so they can take him back to Hell.

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin is seen heading to the ring...

Val Venis is doing some "casting" for "Lust In Space" in his dressing room. He says the TV show is good, but he's got a rocket in his pocket that will take and every woman on the planet to new and exciting heights. Venis says he is not a braggart and that his actions speak louder than his words as another woman sits next to him, and when he explodes into the World Wrestling Federation, he will give it his all, inch by inch.

D-Generation X ("Triple H" Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Chyna, X-Pac, "Road Dog" Jesse James, "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn) appear again. Owen Hart then shows up and says he will kick their asses and asks which one has the cajones to step in the ring with him. Triple H says they've been discussing it all week, and says he settled it by having all the members write a 500-word essay on why they wanted to beat up Owen, admitting that his was a little "headstrong." Triple H says Road Dogg's essay was written on Zig Zag rolling papers and half the papers were missing, X-Pac's was more like something that should have been printed in an adult magazine, Chyna's was very deep and emotional and brought a tear to his eye but contained violent acts that can't be done on television, but Billy Gunn's was the best due to the clear professional plastic binder it came in as well as depictions of Owen Hart with a barnyard animal. Not surprisingly, Mr. Ass gets the match with Owen. Owen approaches the ring, but doesn't go in just yet. L.O.D. 2000 (Road Warrior Animal, Road Warrior Hawk, Sunny) show up and stand behind Owen.

We see Vince McMahon working out backstage, and we find out that Vince is not just another weakling.

"Triple H" Hunter Hearst Helmsley and X-Pac guest on commentary for the next match.

Owen Hart gets a surprise win on "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn with a schoolboy pin.

WWF owner Vince McMahon shows up, surrounded by WWF officials. Shane McMahon shows up and tries to talk his dad out of it one more time, but to no avail. After some time, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin finally shows up. Vince slaps Austin in the face during the stare-down as Austin looks away and smirks, then Vince takes the microphone and recalls that Austin said he could beat him with one arm tied behind his back, and says "Let's see if you're a man of your word" before pulling out a rope. Austin's right arm is tied behind his back at Vince's request. Austin then asks the fans to give him a "hell yeah" if they want to see him whip Vince's ass with one arm tied behind his back. Vince then asks the fans to give him a "hell yeah" if they think he can beat Austin, but all he gets is a resounding "hell no." After Vince gets his mouthpiece in his mouth, Dude Love suddenly shows up and asks "Why can't we all just get along?" before telling Austin he's the only cat who can bring peace to the War Zone. He knows Austin wants a piece of Vince, but tries to talk him out of it, saying that Vince is the one that cuts the checks so that everyone has money. He calls Vince his "Mc-main-mahon," and tells Vince that when he's got his eyes set on Austin, he's got his eyes set on the world's toughest S.O.B. and that Austin can put him on his ass. Vince shoves Dude Love to the mat, and Dude tells Vince "You've just made the world's biggest mistake" before going for the Mandible Claw to Vince's gullet. Austin tires to get Dude Love out of the way so he can go after Vince, but Dude Lvoe puts the Mandible Claw on Austin. A confused Vince leaves the ring along with the other officials that he came to the ring with, and Dude Love says that when he puts a cat down, that cat stays down. Dude Love continues to assault Austin, and tries to put the Mandible Claw to Austin again and Vince tries to get back in the ring and go after Dude Love, who eventually dares Vince to get in the ring with him. Vince continues to be held back as Dude Love goes after Austin again only for Austin to fight back in a brawl that ends up on top of the commentary table as the show ends.

The cameras keep rolling after the show. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin is down on the commentary table, and Dude Love says Austin isn't that tough after all. Dude Love heads to the back as Austin's right arm is untied, and Austin immediately goes to the back. He is assaulted by D-Generation X ("Triple H" Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Chyna, X-Pac, "Road Dog" Jesse James, "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn) on the way up the ramp. Kane shows up along with L.O.D. 2000 (Road Warrior Animal, Road Warrior Hawk, Sunny), and Kane attacks both of them before The Undertaker shows up. The Undertaker finally goes at it with Kane and sends him out of the ring. As The Undertaker and Kane duke it out at ringside, L.O.D. 2000 take the fight to D-Generation X, as does Austin. Road Dogg eats a Stunner, and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, The Undertaker and L.O.D. 2000 beat Kane and D-Generation X in a very impromptu match. Austin then says he came here to put the WWF Championship on the line, not to see WWF owner Vince McMahon dance around and have Dude Love stick his fingers down his throat. Before he leaves, Austin asks the crowd to give him a "hell yeah" if somebody's going to pay next week.
