Nitro-Glycerin - Monday Nitro recap for April 27, 1998

The show - which is a special one-hour edition due to the NBA Playoffs - starts with a performance by The Nitro Girls. As the Nitro Girls are jumping rope, Alex Wright - who hasn't been seen in months - shows up and starts dancing before WCW security pushes him to the back.

Kevin Nash and "Macho Man" Randy Savage show up. Nash talks about how Sting showed up wanting a tag match with him and Scott Hall, and Nash says he ran into Hall two night's ago at Trader Vic's with perfect hair and a pina colada in his hand. Nash tells Sting that if he wants the tag titles, he'd better come and get them. He then focuses on the current state of the nWo, saying that "The Wolfpack" is expanding, and that Savage is its newest member. He then address "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan, saying Savage has a surprise for him. As for Bret "The Hit Man" Hart, if he's going to hit him in the belt, he'll take whatever's left of Bret after Savage is done with him. Savage tells Bret that the ends justify the means, and that he is in a lot of trouble he won't be able to get out of. Savage reveals that Hogan is not in the building right now. Nash tells Hogan they promised him a surprise, and tells him this is the first of many defections, and brings out yet another defector: Konnan, who calls it an honor to be next to "Big Sexy, The Giant Killer" while proclaiming Savage to be "a classic, just like Coca-Cola and Corvettes." He tells Hogan he doesn't want any of the Wolfpack, and that they're thinking about him.

We get a special look at Juventud Guerrera. He tells his name means "Young Warrior," and that his father, also a professional wrestler, gave him that name. Juvi says he is Azteca, and that his Aztec culture is very important to culture, hence the "never surrender" motto. He says Chris Jericho may have taken his match, but he will never take his pride.

Before the next match, Chris Jericho welcomes the fans to "WCW Monday Jericho." He thanks Juventud Guerrera, saying that since he has beaten him for his mask, he has left him as a shell of his former self, especially when he had him in the Lion Tamer. He has also arranged an exclusive interview with Dean Malenko (or a portrait of him), asking him what it's like to be the #2 wrestler in the world before congratulating him on being the new fry cook at Harry's Burgers in Tampa, Florida. He also asks him what it's like to be a quitter after he beat him, and says Malenko can live vicariously through him as he dedicates the match to Malenko.

Chris Jericho retains the WCW Cruiserweight Championship against Chavo Guerrero Jr. with the Lion Tamer. At one point in the match, Eddie Guerrero is standing on the apron, and Chavo drop kicks Jericho into him. After the match, Eddie Guerrero confronts Chris Jericho, who tells him that Chavo sent Jericho into him. Eddie Guerrero embarrasses Chavo again, pushing him around and calling him an embarrassment.

Pete Kasougarus of Gold's Gym in Hobart, Indiana is the winner of this week's Nitro party. We see some footage of his Nitro party.

It is announced that Buff Bagwell has underwent surgery this evening following his severe, paralyzing neck injury from last Wednesday's Thunder, and that tomorrow's special one-hour edition of Nitro starting at 6 PM Eastern/5 PM Central will provide an update. Thankfully, he had gotten some movement back before the night was over.

Eric Bischoff, The Disciple and "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan show up. "NWO" is spray painted on the WCW World Heavyweight Championship once again. When Eric Bischoff asks Hogan what is left for him, Hogan decides to put the cart in front of the horse and announces he's done it all, been it all and from now on until the rest of eternity, he will be it all. He says the nWo-ites have finally realized what a joke Kevin Nash and "Macho Man" Randy Savage are, as Nash is down and out and will never get in his face again, while Savage and Miss Elizabeth already have "one foot in the glue factory." He says there is not one wrestler left to conquer, one promoter to break in half, or one championship to compete for, and that he tips the scales in his favor and that he is where the power lies. If Nash and Konnan are the best Nash has, he'll have The Disciple call his maintenance man in Beverly Hills, take his pick-up truck to the valley, and recruit every hobo there to pick his orange groves. Hogan then proclaims the stage is set, and says Bret "The Hit Man" Hart helped him become WCW World Heavyweight Champion because he knows where the power lies, and has known since day one.

Goldberg retains the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship against Scott Norton, despite Norton's attempts to injure one of his arms to stop the Jackhammer.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews Bret "The Hit Man" Hart in the ring. When asked why he helped "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, he calls the Norfolk Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia "the house that Hogan built." He says we are all supposed to suffer for our crimes, but if we're not suffering it's not a crime in the first place. He says there is no room for guilt or innocence in professional wrestling, which he calls a "long, cruel money trench," "a plastic hallway full of pimps and thieves," and "a place where good men die like dogs." He says that if "Macho Man" Randy Savage feels bad about things, he wants him to know "who's crying now." He says that Savage has talked about him for years but never had the guts to face him in the ring, and that he has suddenly climbed out of his rock to challenge him at Slamboree. He calls Savage "half-troll, half-lizard" and claims that Savage does not have what it takes to beat with him, never did and never will. He also wants to look Hogan in the eye and tell him and the rest of the world why he did what he did, and that he won't explain why he did what he did until he meets him face-to-face tomorrow night. When Okerlund asks Bret if he thinks he's screwed over WCW in exchange for being screwed over by WWF, he asks Okerlund who he is to judge him, and says nothing makes sense anymore. He says it is time to arrive after being on the back burner for so long, and that he has made his presence clear.
