Raw Deal - Raw recap for July 14, 1997

The Hart Foundation (Bret "The Hit Man" Hart, Owen Hart, The British Bulldog, Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart, Brian Pillman) show up to start tonight's show, and are interviewed by Vince McMahon. Bret says that his province of Alberta is rat-free, but the same cannot be said of San Antonio, Texas, which he says is filled with rats. He calls the Foundation a force that will be reckoned with. Bret says the stipulation that he will never wrestle on American soil again if he does not win the WWF Championship at SummerSlam is officially in his contract as per WWF President Gorilla Monsoon. Bret says that Canadian can pride themselves on doing their best and keeping their promises, and at SummerSlam The Undertaker will be a falling star as he becomes a five-time WWF Champion. Owen Hart doesn't care who he is facing, as tonight he and The British Bulldog will take back the tag team titles. He then tells "Stone Cold" Steve Austin to get his Blistex ready (as he pulls out a box of Blistex) because he will be kissing his ass at SummerSlam. Bulldog calls "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock "the self-proclaimed most dangerous" before claiming to be the strongest in the World Wrestling Federation, and says that if he loses the European Championship to Shamrock, he will eat a can of dog food immediately after the match. Brian Pillman tells Dusty Rhodes that he knows he's watching, and likes how he turned his son into Goldust, and plans to rip Goldust's heart out of his chest at SummerSlam, and if he doesn't, he'll face him the next night in a dress. He goes on to say that it might be one of Marlena's, and if it is, that's not all of hers that he'll be getting into. Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart says that if any of the Foundation members loses at SummerSlam, he will shave off his goatee the next night on Raw. When Vince says the Foundation is confident about their chances, Bret boils it down to commitment. He proclaims that Canada's money and women are prettier, its sports and men tougher, its beer better, and whether America likes it or not, it will be a Canadian summer. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin then shows up, with an American flag waving on the TitanTron. Ken Shamrock joins Austin on the entrance ramp, as does a man in red, blue, white and black striped pants with a star and a mask covering his face. This man is announced by commentary to be The Patriot, and he also joins them. Sycho Sid, dressed in black jeans and a black dress shirt, shows up on Raw for the first time in weeks and joins them, followed by "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels in black loafers, khaki shorts, a white T-shirt and a black backwards cap.

"Polish Power" Ivan Putski sings My Melody of Love before the next match, before he and son Scott Putski are attacked by Jerry "The King" Lawler and "Too Sexy" Brian Christopher.

Scott Putski and "Polish Power" Ivan Putski beat Jerry "The King" Lawler and "Too Sexy" Brian Christopher after Ivan Putski hits Lawler with the Polish Hammer.

Mankind keeps silent on his remarks from last week.

Paul Bearer tells The Undertaker that the hell he says he has lived in for the last 20 years is nothing compared to the life of his brother Kane. He insists that The Undertaker started the fire that killed his parents and disfigured Kane. He says that Kane is alive and no longer a child, and that Kane eagerly awaits his chance to confront him. Next week, he plans to prove Kane is alive.

Taka Michinoku beats Yoshihiro Tajiri (named by the traditional Japanese naming style of Tajiri Yoshihiro here) in a Light Heavyweight Division match.

"The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock says he is not "Stone Cold" Steve Austin's partner tonight and is in a match of his own against Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart, and that he was out there to stick it to The Hart Foundation (Bret "The Hit Man" Hart, Owen Hart, The British Bulldog, Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart, Brian Pillman). When that match happens, however, it's knuckle up time.

We see footage of Los Boricuas riding into the arena on a low rider earlier today, where they take notice of The Disciples of Apocalypse's motorcycles.

On the next issue of WWF Magazine available tomorrow: Does Brian Pillman have a hidden agenda?

Los Boricuas (Miguel and Jose) beat The Headbangers (Thrasher and Mosh). The fighting continues are the match is over, and Los Boricuas overpower The Headbangers until The Disciples of Apocalypse show up and make it an all-out brawl. The Headbangers and D.O.A. stand tall in the ring as Los Boricuas leave.

The Patriot says he'd be honored to partner with "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, but he is here to stand by his country and protect it from anyone who would try to destroy her or anyone living in it. He has listened to The Hart Foundation (Bret "The Hit Man" Hart, Owen Hart, The British Bulldog, Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart, Brian Pillman) and others make comments about America, and now that he is in the WWF, nobody will talk bad about the USA or anyone in it.

Vince McMahon interviews "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels in the ring to an enthusiastic hometown crowd. Michaels says it is no secret that he is not 100%, but the last time he and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin tagged up to become tag champs, neither of them were 100%, so he's ready to go right now. He then says whether or not he will be his partner will be up to Austin. He then mentions that as he sat in his new home up in the hills that he couldn't help but notice that Bret Hart tell everyone that if he did not win the WWF Championship at SummerSlam that he would never wrestle on American soil once again. Shawn says that he has been waiting a long time for Bret to leave America, and while he's not scheduled to be at SummerSlam, he asks Vince to allow him to just be part of the event, whether it be selling tickets, setting up the ring, selling souvenirs or even shining Vince's shoes just to get a ticket to the show to see The Undertaker bury Bret and run him out of the country. After the interview is over, Vince has to keep Shawn from stripping down to his boxers in the ring.

The intro replays to signal the start of War Zone.

Savio Vega shows up with a microphone, calling a cameraman to come to the back as an accident has happened backstage. We then a member of Los Boricuas smashing a trash can into one of The Disciples of Apocalypse's motorcycles, then the D.O.A. rushes in and brawls with Los Boricuas until officials show up and Los Boricuas' low rider drives off with the motorcyles near it still attached to it somehow. The D.O.A. then chases after the low rider as Crush checks on one of his men.

Jerry "The King" Lawler guests on commentary for the next match.

"The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock beats Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart with a standing sleeper. After the match, Shamrock is attacked from behind by The British Bulldog, and The Anvil joins in to make a double-team. After a double-team spike piledriver is delivered to Shamrock, The Patriot shows up and fights off both The Bulldog and The Anvil, then raises Shamrock's hand in victory.

Mankind is still in the boiler room of the arena, and refuses to speak about his statements from last week.

If your key opens the lock of The Undertaker's casket, you will win one million dollars.

The third clue for Your SummerSlam Million Dollar Chance is "Life."

The Legion of Doom (Road Warrior Animal and Road Warrior Hawk) are attacked from behind by The Godwinns (Henry O. and Phineas I. Godwinn) with steel chairs before the next match, and Hawk is Slop Dropped on the metal grating of the entrance ramp, busting the back of his head open. The match between The Legion of Doom and The New Blackjacks (Blackjack Windham and Blackjack Bradshaw) fails to take place as a result.

Vader beats Flash Funk, then hits him with a Vader Bomb after the match.

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin doesn't care who is involved in his tag team title match. As for Mankind's "drastic measures," Austin calls getting out of bed a drastic measure for himself before proclaiming that he will not leave San Antonio without the tag team titles.

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin's partner has finally arrived in the building.

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin's partner is Mankind...almost. Instead of his usual garb, he is dressed as a hippie in tie-dye, and calls himself "Dude Love." He shows up on the TitanTron, saying that Austin could use some help, but doesn't blame him for taking Mankind in as a partner before finally heading to the ring. Austin can't believe what's going on, but goes with it anyway.

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin and Dude Love beat Owen Hart and The British Bulldog to not only retain the WWF Tag Team Championships, but also give Dude Love (and Mankind) his first WWF title. Austin takes the other tag team title away from Dude Love, who is then joined by two young women in the ring. Austin gives one of the tag titles back to Dude Love, shakes his hand and leaves as Dude Love and the two women dance in the ring.
