Before this, Mr. Hughes tosses the Intercontinental Championship to Helmsley to use as a weapon while he distracts the ref, and when Marlena gets on the apron, Helmsley kisses her but it immediately smacked by Goldust. Goldust uses the IC title as a weapon while the referee still isn't looking, but when he goes for the pinfall, Mr. Hughes drags Helmsley out of the ring. During the match, it is announced that George and Adam, the duo most infamous for their appearances in the vignettes for the event leading up tonight, have been escorted out of the arena by security while making their way down for the interview with "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels. Also, Todd Pettengill interviews country music singer Colin Ray, who is glad that tonight's event is in San Antonio and not on the East Coast.

Vader beats The Undertaker. During the match, Todd Pettengill interviews fan Summer Bishop from Minnesota, who has saved her babysitting money and followed "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels everywhere he's went to be here tonight. During the match, Paul Bearer shows up, and The Undertaker gets a few shots on him. Paul Bearer responds by pulling Vader out of the way of an attack outisde of the ring, causing Undertaker to fall rib-first on the security rail, then hitting 'Taker with his urn from the apron. The Undertaker choke slams the referee in response to his loss. He then tells Vince McMahon that there is a storm heading towards the World Wrestling Federation, and its name is The Undertaker.

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin says he's not talking to anybody until he tosses "29 pieces of trash" over the top rope and advances to WrestleMania to face the WWF Champion. Outside of the arena, The British Bulldog says he hopes to make even more Royal Rumble history by winning it all this time around.

Perro Aguayo Sr., El Canek and Hector Garza beat Fuerza Guerrera, Heavy Metal and Jerry Estrada.

It is announced that the attendance for tonight's event is 60,477 - the largest in Royal Rumble history.

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin wins the 1997 Royal Rumble, last eliminating Bret "The Hit Man" Hart, having eliminated ten men and matching Hulk Hogan's record for most eliminations in one match in the process. This is also despite being eliminated, but his elimination at the hands of Bret Hart was not confirmed by either of the referees.
