Nitro-Glycerin - Monday Nitro recap for July 8, 1996

Rey Mysterio Jr. beats Dean Malenko to win the WCW Cruiserweight Championship after Dean Malenko voluntarily breaks the pinfall on Mysterio twice. During the match, Tony Schiavone apologizes for some of the statement he made last night after Hulk Hogan joined The Outsiders (Hall and Nash).

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews The Nasty Boys (Jerry Sags and Brian Knobbs) and The Steiner Brothers (Rick and Scott Steiner). Scott Steiner can't believe how Harlem Heat took the tag team titles back, but if they have to beat The Nasty Boys to get them, so be it. Scott says that he may not like how The Nasty Boys look or act, but he respects their wrestling ability. Jerry Sags all he and Knobbs care about is winning tonight. Rick Steiner, on the other hand, says the ring is gonna be a dog pound. Knobbs says that their match will be one hell of a match.

The encore of Bash at the Beach is tomorrow night, and airs 5-8 PM Eastern on Viewer's Choice and 8-11 PM Eastern on Request One.

The Blue Bloods ("Lord" Steven Regal and "Squire" David Taylor) beat The Dungeon of Doom (Hugh Morrus and Big Bubba) after John Tenta shows up and fights Big Bubba outside the ring, taking the fight to the back, all while "Earl" Robert Eaton distracts the referee.

This Saturday on WCW Saturday Night: The Dungeon of Doom in an eight-man tag match! "Macho Man" Randy Savage! The Horsemen in a six-man tag match! Public Enemy (Johnny Grunge and Flyboy Rocco Rock) vs. Harlem Heat (Booker T and Stevie Ray)!

During the match, we see Rey Mysterio Jr. backstage, saying he is disappointed in who the third man was at Bash at the Beach, saying about Hulk Hogan: "He betrayed us."

Eddie Guerrero beats Psychosis in the latter's Nitro debut.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews Jimmy Hart, The Taskmaster and The Giant. Jimmy Hart says that Hulk's betrayal of WCW is the first time he's been at a loss for words. The Taskmaster says that he and Jimmy Hart lived for the demise and destruction of Hulkamania, but Hulk plucked it from them and destroyed it himself, and now all the karma that he had done in his life has come back upon him. He says that every time he looks in the mirror, he sees "The Canadian Crippler" Chris Benoit and he sees a madman. Jimmy Hart says there is a new world order coming, and even Okerlund might be out of a job. The Giant says that as long as he has the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, nothing can go wrong in WCW, especially when he won it from Hogan the first time. As for the Four Horsemen, they won the battle last night, but not the war. He also celebrates the fact that he doesn't even have to wrestle tonight.

Fireworks go off to signal the beginning of the second hour.

The Steiner Brothers (Rick and Scott Steiner) beat The Nasty Boys (Jerry Sags and Brian Knobbs) after Col. Robert Parker and Sister Sherri show up and distract the referee so Parker can hit Jerry Sags with his cane. More fireworks can be seen after the match. Eric Bischoff apologizes for not calling the main event last night. "Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews The Nasty Boys. Sags says that life, as in wrestling, has always been about attiude and theirs has always been nasty. He says Col. Robert Parker sent a lightning bolt through his head with his cane with a message saying that change is inevitable, and that it will be a cold day in hell before something like what happened to him ever happens again. Brian Knobbs says Hulk Hogan's betrayal in WCW was shocking even to them, but he sees nothing wrong in it either, as the "New World Order" do whatever they want when they want like they used to do.

Ric Flair retains the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship against Jim Powers with the Figure Four Leg Lock after Woman gives him some leverage. "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson and Steve "Mongo" McMichael show up to celebrate with Flair after the match. "Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews Anderson, Mongo, Flair, Woman, Debra McMichael and Miss Elizabeth. Anderson says there were a lot of highs and a lot of lows for them last night, and things didn't go exactly as planned, but he says what happened at the end of Bash at the Beach made him want to puke. He says that The Four Horsemen were never role models and never tried to be role models, but Hulk Hogan was, and the lives of some people hinged on what he said. He tells Hogan he should stand for something instead of leaving like a thief in the night, and now his fans's hearts that he stamped and stomped on will rise up and bite him back. Mongo says the apocalypse is on WCW, and it doesn't have anything to do with anyone else but them. Flair tells The Outsiders (Nash and Hall) and "insiders" that until they can heal the sick, raise the dead and drive little girls right out of their head, there's a new champion in town.

"The Crippler" Chris Benoit beats Sgt. Craig "Pitbull" Pittman with the Crippler Crossface after Theodore Long throws in the towel for Pittman. (Pittman substitutes for Lex Luger for this match, as Luger could not make it to injuries received last night at Bash at the Beach._

Sting beats "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson with the Scorpion Death Lock. During the match, it is announced that there may be "guests" on the show, and a black limousine reportedly pulls up. The Outsiders (Nash and Hall) come out of the limo and head to the arena, where they are confronted by security. "Macho Man" Randy Savage shows up and is ready to take them on, and when Sting is distracted, Anderson goes for the DDT only for Sting to respond with a Scorpion Death Lock, making Anderson tap out. Savage tries to get past security to get a piece of Hall and Nash, but he is unsuccessful and The Outsiders are escorted out of the arena. "Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews Sting and Savage after the match. Sting says he is not all surprised about Hall and Nash, but he is very surprised at Hulk Hogan. He says he should have known when Hulk traveled in the limo to every town instead of travelling with them and walking on the dark side, referring to him, Savage and Lex Luger as "three little dogs" waiting for the chance to wrestle him. Sting says he made a mistake, but Hulk Hogan made a bigger mistake by trashing everyone who trusted him and every word that he said. He tells Hulk Hogan it was a good thing he told all of his fans to believe in themselves, as they certainly can't believe him now. He then tells Hogan that he should be the one to "stick it." Savage says that what he wants to say and do to "Hollywood Hogan" can't be uttered on television, especially at Disney MGM Studios, but tells him to take the worst thing he can think about and multiply it by nine million and multiply it by infinity and beyond and it'd be one grain of sand in the Sahara desert, as it's going to be scary what he is going to say and do to Hogan.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews The Outsiders (Hall and Nash) in front of the limousine. Nash says that WCW and the fans took a beating last night because Hulk Hogan told them how it was, as he built professional wrestling and the fans can't appreciate it even though he and Hall can. He announces that Hulk Hogan will be here next week, and they'll see what WCW will put against them. Hall says that this portion of WCW Monday Nitro is brought to you by The Outsiders and Hulk Hogan. He said they'd do it, and they delivered. He said they'd beat them, and they did. They're still The Outsider, they get to crash the party, and WCW should be begging them to come through the door. When "Mean" Gene Okerlund asks about the talk of him not having a job, Hall tells him he has a job with the New World Order. Nash says that Hogan is on the set of another movie tonight, and Hall says that Savage is jealous of Hogan right now and that Lex Luger fainted when he saw them.

We see a recap of what happened in the main event of Bash at the Beach to close the show.
