Raw Deal - Raw recap for May 3, 1999

RAW

The show starts with the entrance of The Corporate Ministry. Shane calls them the most omnipotent force in the WWF, and says he will not be held responsible for anything that happens to anybody who gets in their faces. He knows that people are calling him ruthless and saying he has a black heart, and that he has no compassion He draws a line there, because he knows and understands what compassion is for the fans, and that he does not expect the fans to show any for him as none of them can walk in his shoes. He says he has compassion and knows what it is like to live paycheck to paycheck, then drawn one's sorrows in the cheapest vodka from the liquor store every Friday night, hate one's boss, and hate one's wife He says there is a word that compassionate people like him call those people: losers. Shane says he has the looks, money and brainpower, and asks who in the crowd could fathom the power he possesses. Whether it be WWF co-owner Vince McMahon, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin or The Rock, it feels good to seize the power and crush the opposition at any time. He asks who in the crowd who would have "balls the size of grapefruits" to slap their maker in the face, and says not a single person would be able to do it. "Triple H" Hunter Hearst Helmsley takes the microphone and addresses The Rock, whom he calls "a crock" and "a big farce," saying The Rock's fate is in his hands at Over The Edge. He says the people call him "The People's Champ," and says it speaks volumes about how the people worship "a piece of crap" just because he can raise an eyebrow, drop an elbow and think of catchphrases and marketing ploys for everybody. He says The Rock keeps singing his songs and doing his comedy routines, but at Over The Edge, there will be nothing funny about how he ends The Rock's career. The Undertaker then takes the microphone and says it is really simple: he hates everyone, but Austin's name is on the top of the list, asking who he thinks he is by trying to be everyone's savior. The Undertaker says he let Austin go his own way and co-exist, but now, he will be the judge, jury and executioner. At Over The Edge, he will take Austin's title, beat Austin like he has never been beaten before, and then carry his carcass over the shoulder and take him to Raw where he will be the ultimate sacrifice to a power even greater than he. He says that Austin will now he is the Lord of Darkness, and there is nothing Austin or anybody else can do about it. Shane tells Austin to remember that he will witness the pinfall first-hand, as he will be the special guest referee for that match and The Undertaker will be WWF Champion. Shane then address WWF co-owner Vince McMahon, telling him he has two hours to get here, because he has his master plan and the last piece of the puzzle. Suddenly, Mankind, Test, Big Show and "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock are on the stage with 2x4s. Mankind says that they worked for The Corporation at one time, and that Shane might as well call them "disgruntled former employees." He then tells Shane that the four of them have banded together to form a union. They may not have a fancy name, but there are a "union of people you oughta respect, son." Mankind then makes initials out of that, and decides to call the group "U.P.Y.O.U.R.S." (The Union of People You OUghta Respect, Son, which is known henceforth as "The Union.") Big Show walks down the ramp, Mankind stops him, and says that while Vince may have been an asshole, but when Vince was running the show, they were at least compensated for their work, and since Shane took over, their paychecks suck. Shane may think he may have their financial future in his hands, but if he messes with them, his testicles will be in theirs. Mankind then leads the charge, and all four men surround the ring. The Union lays waste to The Corporate Ministry. Shane escapes along with The Undertaker and tells The Union they have not seen the last of them, and that they are going down tonight.

"Bad Ass" Billy Gunn beats X-Pac with a low blow to counter the Bronco Buster prior to the Fameasser. After the match, Billy Gunn grabs a steel chair, but "Road Dogg" Jesse James stops Billy Gunn. Gunn and Road Dogg then start brawling, and Road Dogg comes out on top. As Road Dogg checks on X-Pac, Gunn hits Road Dogg with the steel chair. Kane shows up, and Billy Gunn gets out of the ring and Kane gets in. Kane then helps X-Pac to the back.

We hear WWF co-owner Shane McMahon screaming from behind his dressing room, saying that there will be repercussions and that The Union is going down tonight.

The Corporate Ministry shows up again. WWF co-owner Shane McMahon says he has made a few changes to tonight's show, and tells everyone to throw away their show programs and formats. We then go backstage, where WWF co-owner Vince McMahon shows up with Stephanie McMahon and his wife, Linda McMahon. Two police officers flank them. Shane announces that The Big Boss, Viscera and Mideon will face Test in a 3-on-1 handicap match, and also puts Mankind in a hardcore match against The Acolytes (Faarooq and Bradshaw). "Triple H" Hunter Hearst Helmsley gets a match against "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock, and Chyna is made the special guest referee after Tripe H whispers in his here. He then tells The Mean Street Posse (Rodney and Pete Gas) that he saw Pat Patterson and Gerald Brisco backstage, and puts them in a match against Patterson and Brisco. Shane then announces that Big Show will be in a match against The Undertaker. He also makes an Evening Gown Match between Debra and Sable, with the loser being stripped to their bra and anties. As Vince's party watches from backstage, Triple H gives Shane more ideas. Shane then makes a match between The Rock and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. Triple H says that they should give credit where credit is due, and that they should up the ante on that match. Triple H whispers into his ear again, and Shane makes the match a special Lumberjack Match where the lumberjacks are none other than The Corporate Ministry. Shane then says he has one more slot open, but before he can mention it, Vince McMahon shows up. Stephanie, Linda and the two police officers follow, and Shane is surprised that his mother Linda is here. Vince tells Shane to stop now before he goes too far, but Shane says he has not even begun to go far enough as this is his time and he is running the show. Vince tells Shane that he is about to make a big mistake, and that he should think long and hard before he does. He tells Shane to get his stuff together, as his family is standing behind him. Shane tells Vince that if he wants to bring it, they can have a match, as he has taken his company out from under him and all he has to left to take is his ass. He tells Vince to think about the box office dollars he could be earning with such a match, but Vince is not interested. Vince says that if Shane won't listen to him or Stephanie, maybe he will listen to Linda. Linda doesn't say much before Shane tells her to shut up. Vince grabs Shane by the collar, and Shane dares Vince to have a go at him. Linda and Stephanie leave the ring, as does Vince, but Shane says "I can have him do it again." Shane then reveals he was the mastermind behind Stephanie's kidnapping, and that he did it so that Vince would leave the business and he could pick up the pieces. He even let The Undertaker into their house, which allowed for the pictures to be taken as well as the teddy bear to be taken. He also says he picked out the black dress that Stephanie was forced to wear. Vince runs into the ring, be he is attacked by The Corporate Ministry. After the Ministry leaves, Shane says he takes Vince running into the ring as a "yes." Vince screams back at him "You're damn right!"

Backstage, Linda McMahon, Stephanie McMahon, Pat Patterson and Gerald Brisco try to talk WWF co-owner Vince McMahon out of fighting his son, WWF co-owner Shane McMahon. Vince says he will kick Shane's ass, and he asks the policeman to take Linda and Stephanie to a hotel.

Before the next match, Rodney tells Pat Patterson and Gerald Brisco to put down the Geritol and come down to the ring and face the music Mean Street style, as they are in the house and they will put them back in the old folks' home. Pat Patterson and Gerald Brisco are then seen heading to the ring for the match while WWF owner Vince McMahon is seen wearing his black tanktop.

Pat Patterson and Gerald Brisco beat The Mean Street Posse (Rodney and Pete Gas) after Patterson and Brisco give Rodney and Pete Gas the beatings of their lives and send them out of the ring.

WWF co-owner Shane McMahon tells The Corporate Ministry that it is time for a bit of an office visit backstage.

Backstage, The Corporate Ministry look for WWF co-owner Vince McMahon's office.

Test beats The Corporate Ministry (The Big Boss Man, Mideon, Viscera) after The Big Boss Man accidentally nails Mideon with his nightstick behind referee Jimmy Korderas' back. After the match, Boss Man, Mideon and Viscera continue to attack Test, but the rest of The Union (Mankind, Big Show, "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock) rush into the ring and clear the ring.

The Corporate Ministry is seen backstage leaving WWF co-owner Vince McMahon's office, assaulting him on their way out.

WAR ZONE

Before the next match, WWF co-owner Shane McMahon dares his father, WWF co-owner Vince McMahon, not to keep him waiting. He says he knew Vince didn't have the guts to take him on, as he knew he could take him. He says that Vince took his daughter Stephanie McMahon and his wife Linda McMahon and skedaddled, and that Vince could not take him and face the facts that he runs the show now. He says it would please him so much to make his way to the ring, as he wants to annihilate him for the entire world to witness, but unfortunately, that will not happen now. Shane then asks the referee to raise his hand and declare him the winner, but Vince McMahon shows up, grabbing his left rib and obviously in no shape to fight. Vince falls halfway down the ramp, and Shane takes advantage by clothesline him before attacking him while he is down.

Vince McMahon beats Shane McMahon after he is able to fight back and hit Shane with a Stone Cold Stunner. The crowd calls Shane a loser after the match, and Shane tells Vince that this is far from over.

The Acolytes (Faarooq and Bradshaw) beat Mankind in a hardcore handicap match after a two-man powerbomb through two steel chairs on Mankind.

"Triple H" Hunter Hearst Helmsley beats "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock after special guest referee Chyna repeatedly shows partiality towards Triple H.

Big Show beats The Undertaker by disqualification. During the match, Paul Bearer hands a bottle of ether to The Undertaker, who douses one of his elbow pads with it. As soon as he gets Big Show in a sleeper, Big Show nearly goes unconscious. Bearer hands The Undertaker a baseball bat, and smashes it into the head of a dazed Big Show. After the match, The Undertaker continues to beat up Big Show, telling him that this is his show.

Before the next match, Sable is on the TitanTron. She says she would love to take Shane up on her offer of an Evening Gown Match, but she is at Hugh Hefner's Playboy mansion preparing for the photo shoot for her second Playboy cover. She says that she has a stunt double who will fill in for her, as she does not want to bruise her body. She also tells Debra not to rip her dress. The stunt double ends up being Nicole Bass. Debra wants none of her, and she immediately throws in the towel and takes her dress off. Nicole grabs Debra, but Jeff Jarrett saves the day by smashing a guitar into Nicole Bass' head. Val Venis runs in and sends Jarrett out of the ring, then walks out with Debra as Jarrett gives chase.

We see footage of Jeff Jarrett and Val Venis brawling backstage during the commercial break.

The Lumberjack Match between The Rock and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin ends before it begins when The Corporate Ministry - who make up all the lumberjacks in this match - get in the ring only for Austin and The Rock to clean house. WWF co-owner Shane McMahon shows up before the numbers game catches up to The Rock and Austin, but WWF co-owner Vince McMahon shows up and sends the entire locker room after The Corporate Ministry. The WWF locker room overwhelms The Corporate Ministry, but The Undertaker, "Triple H" Hunter Hearst Helmsley and Chyna end up getting their hands on The Rock. Austin almost saves the day after he comes out from underneath the stage - where he hid moments ago - and through the elevator shaft, but The Undertaker and Austin fight on the shaft as it comes down and smoke comes out. This leaves Triple H and Chyna alone with The Rock, and The Rock ends up fighting back. Austin comes back to get a piece of Triple H, but The Rock is knocked off the stage and into a table below while The Undertaker comes back and fights Austin again. The show ends with The Undertaker tosses Austin off the stage and into another table below.
