Raw Deal - Raw recap for June 1, 1998

RAW

Vince McMahon recaps what happened at the main event of Over The Edge, staying in character and referring to himself in the third person as he does.

Mick Foley is seated in the middle of the ring as Dude Love. He says tonight was not a good night in Dudeville last night, as he lost his teeth, cracked his face, and lost the match. He admits that "Stone Cold" Steve Austin kicked his ass last night, and he realizes that he made a few mistake, not the least of which was listening to the wrong people. He says it's time the Dude gave a little apology, and calls out WWF owner Vince McMahon. Vince shows up, and Dude Love tells him he knows he let him down, and that he will be out of action for a while due to what Austin did to his face. When he comes back, he'll be back as the #1 contender. Vince calls Dude Love a miserable failure of a WWF Superstar and a human being, and tells him to get on his knees. Dude Love thinks this is a joke, but Vince tells him "You're the joke" before commanding him to get on his knees. Dude Love tells Vince he will not embarrass him on national television, as his children are watching from home. Vince tells him not to worry about that, as he is an embarrassment to him, the fans, himself and his very own family. Vince tells Dude Love to get on his knees again. Dude Love confronts him for that, and tells Vince he underestimates how tough an S.O.B. Austin is. Vince counters by saying he overestimated Dude Love's abilities. Dude Love then confesses that when he wrapped the steel chair around Vince's skull last night, it felt "pretty damn good." Vince asks Dude Love "Why don't you do it again? Why don't you do it right now?" Dude Love picks up the steel chair he came into the ring with, and Vince angrily dares Dude Love to hit him with the chair, and tells him to think about the college fund for his kids, the new home with the 20-year mortgage and the fund he set up for his parents disappearing before his eyes. Vince guilt trips Dude Love into putting the chair down and sitting on it, as Vince tells him to show some guts for once in his life, and tells Dude Love that the only reason why he hasn't fired "Stone Cold" Steve Austin yet is that he makes him richer. He then tells Dude Love all he does is make him sick, and tells him his services in the World Wrestling Federation are no longer required. In other words, Dude Love is fired. Dude Love's music plays, and Vince mockingly dances in front of him.

L.O.D. 2000 (Road Warrior Animal, Road Warrior Hawk, Darren "Puke" Drozdov, Sunny) are outside of the arena looking for weapons for their Chicago Street Fight.

Kevin Kelly interviews Darren "Puke" Drodzov...and immediately gets puked on. Puke says he's been in a few street fights, and he's looking forward to this one. Road Warrior Animal, Road Warrior Hawk and Sunny also show up, and Animal says that they're ready to kick ass on The Disciples of Apocalypse (Chainz, Skull, 8-Ball) and prove they're #1 contenders for the tag team titles again tonight while Puke pukes again. Hawk says they will snack on danger and most certainly dine on death. Chainz shows up on his motorcycle and stops right in front of L.O.D. 2000. This allows Skull and 8-Ball to attack from behind, starting the Chicago Street Fight.

The Chicago Street Fight between L.O.D. 2000 (Road Warrior Animal, Road Warrior Hawk, Darren "Puke" Drozdov) and The Disciples of Apocalypse (Chainz, Skull, 8-Ball) ends when The Undertaker shows up in street clothes and beats up Chainz and Drozdov.

The Undertaker is seen looking for WWF owner Vince McMahon backstage.

Before the next match, Val Venis says he's not happy to see the crowd and that it's a gun in his pocket...and his gun shoots no blanks.

Val Venis beats Papi Chulo. (Papi Chulo has performed in the WWF in the past as Aguila, but is now Papi Chulo after having unmasked in Mexico.)

After Val Venis leaves, The Undertaker shows up. After the commercial break, The Undertaker says he's pissed with WWF owner Vince McMahon. When he first arrived in the World Wrestling Federation, Vince McMahon was known as someone who would give someone an opportunity even if they were a little bit different, and he did that for him by allowing him to be The Undertaker. However, that was where all the giving stopped and all the taking began. Shortly after his arrival in the WWF, he became the slayer of the dragons. Vince knew he would be loyal for giving him an opportunity, and Vince put every giant and freak his champions couldn't beat. The Undertaker would beat and destroy them, and move on, and Vince would keep his kingdom safe for himself and his hand-picked champions. The Undertaker knew his time would come, and after beating everyone that Vince put in front of him, he started getting his opportunities. He eventually became a two-time WWF Champion, but his reigns never lasted long because Vince didn't want someone like him representing the World Wrestling Federation. Nevertheless, he remained loyal, even after all his hand-chosen favorite left town for greener pastures and more money while he stayed here, thinking his time would come. He got repaid for his loyalty by forcing him to fight his own brother Kane, and giving Paul Bearer a forum to put his personal life out in front of the fans, and he did it all for the ratings. Even after all that, he never lost his smile and kept on smiling. As he took care of family business, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin rose to the top. He has nothing against Austin, as all he did was come to the ring and fight him like a man, which is all he ever asked. After years of mistreatment and Vince throwing his family in front of his face, he's had enough, and he wants what is rightfully is: a shot at the WWF Championship. He then tells Vince he's done enough talking, and tells Vince it's time to get "[his] pencil-neck geek ass" out here and face the Reaper. Vince McMahon shows up and gets in the ring, takes the microphone from him, and Vince gives him the answer in just a minute, but asks The Undertaker to hear him out. Vince chews out The Undertaker for choke slamming last week and hovering over him like a vulture to get his attention, and now he has his attention. Vince admits The Undertaker has loyalty, dedication and honor and appreciates those qualities, but asks him what he's done for him lately. As far as his family problems are concerned, Vince asks if Paul Bearer is telling his truth when he says The Undertaker's mother is a whore. The Undertaker advances towards him for that, and Vince says whoever wins in The Undertaker's match tonight...and his opponent is his brother, Kane.

X-Pac, "Road Dog" Jesse James and "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn of D-Generation X advertise the Super Soaker CPS-1000 by spraying Sable and a photographer during a photo shoot.

Before the next match, "Marvelous" Marc Mero says Sable is barefoot in the kitchen where she belongs, and introduces a woman who he claims is everything Sable is not, as not only does she know her place and have a body to die for, she's Black, beautiful and his. That woman is Jacqueline, who hasn't been seen on national television since leaving World Championship Wrestling.

"Marvelous" Marc Mero beats "The Lethal Weapon" Steve Blackman to qualify for the King of the Ring tournament after Jacqueline distracts the referee from the apron so Mero can hit Blackman with a low blow. After the low blow, Marc Mero hits the Wild Thing, which hasn't been seen in some time.

We see footage of "Stone Cold" Steve Austin on Mancow's Morning Madhouse. During the show, WWF owner Vince McMahon calls in, and Austin and the hosts make fun of Vince.

We see another vignette for Edge.

WAR ZONE

Before the next match, WWF Commissioner Sgt. Slaughter ejects X-Pac, Chyna, Kama Mustafa and "The World's Strongest Man" Mark Henry from ringside.

The Nation of Domination ("The Rock" Rocky Maivia, Owen Hart, D'Lo Brown) beats D-Generation X ("Triple H" Hunter Hearst Helmsley, "Road Dog" Jesse James, "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn) by disqualification in a Six-Man Elimination Tag Team Match after Owen Hart is attacked from behind by "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock, who is back from an ankle injury and has come out from the crowd to go after Owen. The Nation of Domination (The Rock, Owen Hart, D'Lo, "The World's Strongest Man" Mark Henry, Kama Mustafa" gets in the ring and attack Shamrock, and Dan "The Beast" Severn jumps in to fight along Shamrock. Both Severn and Shamrock then stare down, then Severn leaves. Triple H then shoves Shamrock from behind after he finds out he has been disqualified, and officials and referees have to restore order.

WWF owner Vince McMahon is seen talking to Kane and Paul Bearer in the locker room, and Vince is witnessed shaking hands with Kane.

Before the next match, Tennessee Lee says that the fans as well as the WWF offices up north have no idea how to treat a Southern gentleman, and decides to teach a lesson and deal out some jusice tonight, and brings out Southern Justice - who happen to be Henry O. and Phineas I. Godwinn with cleaner appearances, dressed in suits and on television for the first time in months.

"Double J" Jeff Jarrett beats Faarooq to qualify for the King of the Ring Tournament after Southern Justice (Henry O. and Phineas I. Godwinn) distract the referee from the apron so Tennessee Lee can toss a leather belt to Jarrett, allowing Jarrett to nail Faarooq in the forehead with the belt buckle.

We see a video package of Vince McMahon and the McMahon Family's charitable giving.

Taka Michinoku retains the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship against Sho Funaki. During the match, Al Snow and Head are seen wearing sugegasas and kimonos at ringside, but security removes them from ringside. Bradshaw clears the ring of Funaki and his cohorts after the match.

Paul Bearer is confident that Kane can beat The Undertaker, as Kane has beaten The Undertaker when nothing was at stake. He then states that Kane will become the WWF Champion.

Outside of the arena, Al Snow berates Head after their plans of having a meeting with WWF owner Vince McMahon fall apart again.

WWF owner Vince McMahon guests on commentary for the next two matches.

"The World's Strongest Man" Mark Henry beats Terry Funk to qualify for the King of the Ring Tournament.

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin is seen making his way to the ring.

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin and guests alongside WWF owner Vince McMahon for the next match.

Kane beats The Undertaker to become the #1 contender for the WWF Championship. During the referee, Kane whips The Undertaker into the referee, and after The Undertaker hits Kane with the Tombstone Piledriver, the recently-fired Mick Foley - now wearing the Mankind mask - gets on the apron and puts The Undertaker in the Mandible Claw. The Undertaker fights off Foley, then takes down Kane and knocks Foley off the apron again only to fall victim to a Tombstone Piledriver. The referee is back up just in time to make the three count. After the match, WWF owner Vince McMahon says he will enjoy seeing Kane beat "Stone Cold" Steve Austin's ass at King of the Ring Austin tells him to "enjoy this" and flips him off. Kane then stands in front of the commentary table and summons flames from the ring posts after motioning that the WWF Championship will soon be around his waist. As Kane and Paul Bearer leave, The Undertaker and Mick Foley brawl at ringside. Vince then says he may change his mind about Foley, as he is showing some "intestinal fortitude."
