Nitro-Glycerin - Monday Nitro recap for June 15, 1998

Public Enemy (Johnny Grunge and "Flyboy" Rocco Rock) beat Hugh Morrus and The Barbarian in a Big Apple Street Fight.

We see some footage from earlier today, where Mike Tenay asks some people who Sting's tag team partner and tag team title holder will be.

We see a performance by The Nitro Girls.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews "Macho Man" Randy Savage. Savage admits he's missed the New York area, and wants to do it right tonight. He has a message for "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. He calls out Diamond Dallas Page, wanting to get him in the Wolfpac (which he considers a group of individuals and "the hole-in-the-wall gang"), and wants Page to prove himself to him. Upon hearing from Okerlund that DDP is schedules to be here later tonight after flying in from Utah from the NBA Playoffs, Savage takes enjoyment to this news. He says that the Wolfpac doesn't eat at the same fast-food spots and doesn't change the same women, and wants to put DDP to the litmus test if Piper has the guts. If Page can get past him, he can wear all the red-and-black he wants.

"The Crippler" Chris Benoit beats Fit Finley with the Crippler Crossface. "Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews Benoit after the match, and Benoit and calls out Booker T so he can clear up some unfinished business and do something he should have done at the beginning of the series. Booker T shows up with Stevie Ray, and when Booker T shows up, Benoit raises his hand. Booker T says he has more respect for Benoit than any other man in the business. Benoit admits Booker T is the toughest opponent he has ever faced, and is one of the wrestlers he has the most respect for. If he needs someone in his corner, he'll be there. Stevie Ray interrupts, saying Booker T has a partner in his, but Benoit finishes his statement anyway. Stevie Ray attacks Benoit, and Booker T has to hold Stevie Ray back. Steve "Mongo" McMichael shows up for the first time in months to go after Stevie Ray, and Booker T has to shove him away to get Stevie Ray out of the ring. Benoit then says he's not here for the nWo Wolfpac or nWo Hollywood, then holds up four fingers, signifying that the Four Horsemen are coming back.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews Diamond Dallas Page. Upon hearing about "Macho Man" Randy Savage's challenge, he says he's proving things to people all his life, and if people wants to see the two of them in a match - which is officially in a steel cage - he's got it. Once he's done with Savage, he's going after "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan and Dennis Rodman, who he despises and considers somewhere between a cockroach and the white stuff that forms in the corner of your mouth when you're getting really thirsty. He also says he's got a partner of his own, whom he says will deliver the bang.

Rumors of Utah Jazz basketball player Karl Malone wrestling in WCW are addressed, but cannot be confirmed or denied.

We see a performance by The Nitro Girls.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. He says he has heard what "Macho Man" Randy Savage had to say, and says he is tought enough to make Rush Limbaugh lose weight and put Howard Stern on the Disney Channel. He says Savage is as crazy as he is and he respect s that, and if Savage wants Diamond Dallas Page to prove himself in a steel cage, he's got it. He uses his powers as WCW Commissioner to make the steel cage match official. He says he can't find a referee to get in the cage with them, so he is making himself the special guest referee for the match (despite saying he would never be a ref again after Savage's match against Bret "The Hit Man" Hart due to the position being a thankless job).

Masahiro Chono and Hiroyoshi Tenzan beat High Voltage (Rage and Kaos). Before the match, it is announced that the encore for The Great American Bash will be available tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday on pay-per-view. It is also announced that Goldberg will not be here tonight as his mother is the hospital getting surgery for a broken hip and is spending time in the hospital with her.

Pyrotechnics officially kick off the rest of the second hour.

nWo Wolfac (Kevin Nash, Konnan, Lex Luger) show up. Nash says life is full of ironies, and finds it ironic that the last to join the Wolfpac would be the first to bring them some gold. Nash then introduces Sting, who shows up with the WCW World Tag Team Championships. Sting says this is a red-and-black crowd if he's ever seen one. As for his tag team partner goes, he has great choices within the Wolfpac, and he can't lose with any of them. He says we will find out who he will be tag teaming with later on tonight in a match against Harlem Heat (Booker T and Stevie Ray).

Kanyon beats Sick Boy.

Rick Rude and Curt Hennig show up. Rude says it's only been one day since The Great American Bash, and people have kept asking why he and Hennig have turned their back on the nWo Wolfpac. Rude says they did it for the cash, and no matter what Nash tells you, "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan will always be where the money is and always has been. He says they had Konnan's back and give credit to Goldberg where it's due for for staying in the ring; otherwise Goldberg would be 99-1 today. He says that Goldberg will eventually have to get in the ring of Curt Hennig and face the fear of defeat, so they can see how he hands being a loser. Hennig then brags about how he swerved Diamond Dallas Page and The Four Horsemen before swerving the Wolfpac, and sees when you see the black-and-white, you know there will be no swerve and says he will never swerve him. Both Rude and Hennig continue to look at themselves and at the camera, as if the trust between them is being questioned.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews WCW Executive Committee Chairman J.J. Dillon, who is currently holding the WCW World Cruiserweight Championship. Dillon has conversed with referee Billy Silverman, who was the referee for Chris Jericho vs. Dean Malenko at The Great American Bash. Dillon says that the understanding was that whoever won the match won the championship, and Chris Jericho shows up saying he is the Cruiserweight Champion again, and demands the title. Dillon recognizes Jericho as the champion, and tells him that he will award him the championship on the understanding that he will defend the title in 30 days against Dean Malenko. Jericho says he has looked up the rules in the Library of Congress, and says that while he has to defend the title in 30 days, he doesn't have to defend against Malenko if he doesn't want to. He says he has beaten Malenko so many times that he is as useless as his dad. Jericho is then struck from behind by Dean Malenko, who takes Jericho to the back and beats him up backstage again until WCW security stops him. Jericho takes the opportunity to run all the way out of the arena.

The Giant beats Chris Adams after Adams refuses to let him finish his cigarette.

Eric Bischoff, "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan and The Disciple show up. Hogan welcomes everyone back to the house that Hollywood built, and says there is a pecking order. He says that the nWo Wolfpac have been watching TV praying one day to be like him, but he will always be the man. As far as the Wolfpac and WCW go, the one that makes him sickest is Diamond Dallas Page. If DDP has a problem with him and Rodman beating his brains out, he triple dog dares him to step up to the plate and do something about it. He's heard about the rumors of Karl Malone coming to WCW, and believes DDP was trying to get a cheap shot on Rodman. He dares DDP to find someone to stand alongside him, as he and Rodman are for real and he cannot think of anything better than getting in the ring and beating the brains out of DDP and the partner of his choice, as he believes in first class delivery and not parcel post.

We see another performance by The Nitro Girls.

Pyrotechnics signal the start of the third hour.

Before the next match, Sting tells "Rowdy" Roddy Piper that "Macho Man" Randy Savage is crazier than him, and tells Diamond Dallas Page that he's got thinking of his own to do. Sting then reveals his tag team partner and new co-holder of the WCW World Tag Team Championships: Kevin Nash. Nash tells Curt Hennig that he made the biggest mistake of his life last night, and if he's not running with the pack, he's now going to be hunted by the pack.

Sting and Kevin Nash retain the WCW World Tag Team Championships after Stevie Ray chastises Booker T and taunts Kevin Nash only to run right into a Scorpion Death Drop from Sting.

The nWo announcement footage of "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan and Scott Steiner on the set of Shadow Warriors from last week is replayed.

Eric Bischoff interviews Scott Steiner on the stage. Bischoff says Hollywood is dying to have Scott Steiner in their feature films. Scott Steiner it's great to be in New York, but it's not Los Angeles, and if you want to wake up every morning to smell smog and eat bagels, you live in New York. In Los Angeles, the sun always shines. He says if you want to live with taxi drivers who don't speak English, you live in New York. Meanwhile, he's in Los Angeles where all the fine thespians are, and they're all coming up and paying homage to him and what a great action job he did on his brother Rick Steiner. Not only has he fooled Rick, he fooled "Mean" Gene Okerlund, who pointed out the tears in his eyes. If you can fool a man who's been in the business for thirty years, that's acting. As he is out in Hollywood where the girls call hi "Big Poppa-licious," he has one question: where is Rick Steiner? Rick is at home with his arm in a sling and out of wrestling because he gave him two chances to join the nWo and they decided he would never join the most powerful organization in the world today.

We see another performance by The Nitro Girls.

. During the match, Savage and Piper have a quarrel due to Piper's slow cadence, and Savage puts Piper out with a piledriver only to allow DDP enough time to hit the Diamond Cutter. When Piper gets up, he tries to get DDP out of the corner only for DDP to beat him up until he fights back, which fires Piper up into beating up Savage. The cage moves up a few steps as this goes on, and enables nWo Hollywood to show up and attack Savage and Page. The cage then goes backdown, entrapping Piper, Savage and DDP with nWo Hollywood. nWo Wolfpac tries to get in to no avail. Kevin Nash heads to the backstage area, and finds the control box for the cage. The cage comes up, and the Wolfpac gets into the ring as the show ends.
