Generation NXT - NXT recap for June 28, 2017

Mauro Ranallo makes his return to WWE commentary at the start of the show, after being off WWE programming for months.

Velveteen Dream beats Ho Ho Lun.

We see footage from earlier today where Nikki Cross jumps on the front of Asuka's ride to Full Sail University. Security is called, and they keep Nikki Cross away from Asuka.

We see Asuka training on a heavy bag.

NXT General Manager has Heavy Machinery (Tucker Knight and Otis Dozovich) and The Authors of Pain (Akam and Rezar) in his office. In two weeks, The Authors of Pain will defend the NXT Tag Team Championships against Heavy Machinery. After Heavy Machinery leaves, Paul Ellering wants to know where Regal got Heavy Machinery from. Regal tells him that they are formidable opponents, and if he were Ellering, he would get prepared.

Hideo Itami vs. Oney Lorcan is stopped by the referee after Lorcan hits Hideo so hard that he causes him to have a nosebleed and potentially gives him a broken nose.

We see a video package of the recent events between Roderick Strong and Bobby Roode.

Hideo Itami shows back up with cotton in both of his nostrils, and demands Oney Lorcan come back to the ring. He does, and they fight again.

Hideo Itami beats Oney Lorcan after Lorcan tweaks his right knee and walks into a GTS as soon as he gets back up. After the match, Hideo Itami calls out Kassius Ohno, who shows up. Both men talk, and Hideo Itami apologizes to him, but they are soon attacked by Killian Dain and Alexander Wolfe of SAnitY. Wolfe says that all the forced friendships, support and pleasantries, and all the lies have to end. To do that...chaos. Wolfe says "the maestro," Eric Young is working on his master plan, and he cannot wait to hear it. Tonight, the first note plays for Nikki Cross.

Next week: Roderick Strong vs. Bobby Roode for the NXT Championship!

Before the next match, Eric Young sends the rest of SAnitY (Nikki Cross, Alexander Wulfe, Killian Dain) to the back, but they return with a beaten-down Roderick Strong. The rest of SAnitY then head to the ring as Dillinger checks on Roody, and No Way Jose also checks on him before referees carry Roddy to the back. Jose and Dillinger then head to the ring, but the numbers game quickly catches up with them. The match between Dillinger and Eric Young ends up never taking place.

Billie Kay and Peyton Royce are looking for a place to hang their NXT Breakout Star of the Year plaque in the Performance Center when they come across Ember Moon. Ember Moon notices them and confronts them, and Billie and Peyton run away.

Andrade "Cien" Almas beats Ho Ho Lun.

Coming soon to NXT: Aleister Black...

Ember Moon beats Billie Kay after scaring Peyton Royce off the apron.

TJ Perkins says he hasn't lost sight of the Cruiserweight Championship, but he's rolling where competition takes him. TJ Perkins says he has trained together with Shinsuke. He says he doesn't steal moves; he steals moments.

Before The Revival (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder) can face The Ealy Brothers (Gabriel and Uriel Ealy), The Authors of Pain (Akam and Rezar) rush in and annihilate the Ealys, decimating one of them with Last Chapter as The Revival flee through the crowd.

General Manager William Regal announces that at NXT TakeOver: Orlando, Ember Moon will face Asuka for the NXT Women's Championship. Ember Moon says that at TakeOver, NXT will enter a new phase.

Next week: Kassius Ohno vs. Bobby Roode for the NXT Championship!

In footage from earlier today, Kassius Ohno tells Tom Phillips that it feels great to be back in NXT, but says it's a little surreal as it's no longer an empty warehouse. He says that NXT was where he had doubt in his career path. He never had so much as an opportunity for the NXT Championship, and until he gets it, that doubt will not be put to rest. He hopes to do just that before TakeOver.

In an interview via satellite from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Bobby Roode says he doesn't care what Kassius Ohno has to say and that his goal is to mold NXT into his image. He asks if either he or a "long-haired, dirty hippy from the '70s" should be NXT's champion, and says the answer is rather obvious. Roode then proclaims that the fate of NXT is in hands, and he will retain the NXT Championship so he can walk into TakeOver with it.

"The King of Strong Style" Shinsuke Nakamura beats TJ Perkins.

General Manager William Regal announces that the winner of next week's NXT Championship match will defend the title at NXT TakeOver: Orlando against "The King of Strong Style" Shinsuke Nakamura.

Perkins says that he has been in the ring with Ibushi before, and that he has brought out the best in him. He hopes that they will bring out the best in each other.

Samoa Joe says he was walking to the ring and testing the perimeter, seeing if anything he's done in NXT has had an effect. He says they've had a great effect. He and "The King of Strong Style" Shinsuke Nakamura have destroyed each other, and says that Shinsuke Nakamura is scared of him and watching his back as he could put him out for a very long time.

Aliyah beats Billie Kay with a schoolgirl when Liv Morgan goes after Peyton Royce, distracting Billie. Liv Morgan goes after Billie after the match, and Peyton makes it a 2-on-1 beating on Liv until Aliyah makes the save. Billie Kay and Peyton Royce come out on top, however, and take both Liv and Aliyah out.

"The Perfect Ten" Tye Dillinger beats Noah Potjes. After the match, Dillinger says that the only glorious thing that Bobby Roode has done is run. He is then attacked from behind by Roode as if on cue, and Bobby Roode tells Dillinger that if he wants him, he's got him.

TM61 (Nick Miller and Shane Thorne) says they are prepared for Austin Aries and Roderick Strong. They are a great team, and consider themselves a very cohesive unit. They say that they are the team to win the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

Asuka beats Thea Trinidad with a Fujiwara Arm Bar. General Manager William Regal shows up after the match, and congratulates her for her progress in NXT. He then announces that her opponent at NXT TakeOver: Toronto in a NXT Women's Championship is none other than Mickie James, who has not been seen in WWE for quite some time. Mickie tells Asuka that unless she's beaten her, she's beaten nobody, and that she plans to make NXT TakeOver: Toronto an international incident.

Paul Ellering is talking with The Authors of Pain (Akam and Rezar) when he is interviewed. He says the puzzle is complete, and it is The Authors of Pain. He has a plan and a strategy, and they will execute his strategy. As for No Way Jose and Rich Swann, they have a fine future ahead of them in NXT, but they will not advance in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic at the Authors' expense. We then hear Akam and Rezar speak for the first time.
