Raw Deal - Raw recap for February 20, 2017

In Memory of George "The Animal" Steele, 1937-2017.

Kevin Owens sits in the middle of the ring in a darkened arena to start the show. Now that the spotlight is solely where it belongs - according to Owens - he can answer the question that is on everybody's mind: why? He also says that he never dreamed of defending a WWE championship against Goldberg in the main event of a pay-per-view, and says that the "Goldberg" chants makes Goldberg think he is invincible and that everyone belives the hype. Owens says he doesn't believe the hype and never has, even when he was a kid, and that Goldberg never impressed him. Owens says Brock Lesnar got beaten quickly because he took Goldberg lightly, and says it won't happen to him. Owens says he will walk out of Fastlane as Universal Champion because he will outlast Goldberg, as the longer a Goldberg match goes, the more the scales tip towards his opponent. Owens says he knows how to play the game better than anyone else. Owens says has waited so long to win a WWE title and will do anything to keep it that way, and says he will not allow Goldberg to use his title as a prop in his superhero fantasy as he will show his family and everyone else that superheroes don't exist. He tells Goldberg he's wasting his time...because he's nothing. On the subject of Chris Jericho, Owens simply drops the microphone and leaves the ring.

Enzo Amore and Big Cass beat Sheamus and Cesaro to become #1 contenders for the WWE Raw Tag Team Championships. After the match, Enzo says everyone is looking at the #1 contenders and that Sheamus and Cesaro are chicken tenders. As Enzo keeps repeating "We have that kryptonite," he gets Brogue Kicked in the side of the face by Sheamus.

General Manager Mick Foley tells Kevin Owens that he has a match with Sami Zayn tonight as Owens tries to leave. Owens tells Mick Foley to be careful, otherwise he will have more guys on the injured list than in the locker room.

We see a video package of Bayley's path on the main roster so far, her feud with Charlotte Flair and her Raw Women's title win. Now Charotte Flair demands that Bayley hand her the title back, and Bayley will address her demands later tonight.

General Manager Mick Foley meets Roman Reigns backstage. He tells Roman Reigns that the ring will be fortified during Braun Strowman's match and that he will have to wait until Fastlane to take Strowman on. Suddenly, Gallows & Anderson (Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson) show up and says that they have unfinished business with Roman. Mick tells Roman to find a tag team partner, but Roman says he'll take them both on himself.

The Brian Kendrick quickly beats Akira Tozawa with the Captain's Hook. After the match, Kendrick says in an interview by Charly Caruso that nobody will disrespect him, as tonight's lesson was in respect and Akira Tozawa was just the first lesson.

Gallows & Anderson (Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson) beat Roman Reigns by disqualification in a 2-on-1 handicap match after Roman uses a chair introduced into the match by Gallows & Anderson against them. After the match, Gallows & Anderson beat up Roman, but Roman fights back and lays Anderson out with a Spear.

It is announced that The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Big E, Xavier Woods) will host WrestleMania 33.

Lana interrupts them, and reveals that she has a copy of their plans for ice cream machine and reads the ingredients for the ice cream out. This starts a match between The New Day and the team of Rusev and Jinder Mahal.

The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Big E) beat Rusev and Jinder Mahal. During the match, Xavier Woods steals Lana's iPad and breaks it in half, ensuring that the plans for The New Day's ice cream machine are The Nrew Day' and The New Day's alone.

WWE pays tribute to the life and career of George "The Animal" Steele.

Austin Aries moderates the contract signing for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship title match between "Gentleman" Jack Gallagher and Nevile. Gallagher signs after Aries complements Gallagher on his demeanor and his ability to set a good example. Neville then shows up, and signs the contract before leaving, but Gallagher asks him to stay for some tea and biscuits that are already on the table. Neville thinks this is a joke and says that Gallagher should be ashamed of himself, saying that he is a caricature and a stereotype. He says that Gallagher plays a gentleman, and says he will be the one laughing after Fastlane. Gallagher reminds him that he is a gentleman and doesn't pretend to be one, then tells Neville that he will not stand for him believe that he is not only a king, but believing he is better than everyone else because of it. Neville pushes the table - and the tea and biscuits - down, and asks Gallagher if he wants to fight. Neville pushes Gallagher, but Gallagher fights back and sends Neville out of the ring with a headbutt. Neville tries to get back in the ring, but Gallagher wields his umbrella William III and points it at him, putting a stop to that. Neville retreats.

Nia Jax quickly beats Sarah Pierce. After the match, Nia Jax says she wants a shot at the Raw Women's title and says she'd like to see Charlotte Flair and Bayley do something to her, as she would destroy them both.

WWE celebrates Black History Month by honoring Barack Obama.

Bayley shows up. Bayley considers California a great place to celebrate, since she grew up in California and had the best friends, the best family and the best dreams there. She says that her dreams have become reality, and says that it was awesome to become the Raw Women's Champion. The first person she called was her dad, and she could barely get any words out. She tells her dad that she finally did it. She acknowledges that Charlotte Flair tried to tarnish the best week of her life, and tells her to deal with it as she is champion. Commissioner Stephanie McMahon shows up, and tries to rain on her parade by saying her victory is tainted because Sasha Banks hit Charlotte with a cheap shot. Stephaie tells Bayley that being herself is just fine, but asks if she is willing to throw away who she is to keep a championship she didn't really earn, and says the Bayley she nows would do the right thing and relinquish the title. Before Bayley can make a decision, Sasha Banks shows up and tells Bayley not to give up everything she worked for, and to not just take it from her, but from the fans. Sasha almost confronts Stephanie for implying that Sasha is only out here because she can't beat Charlotte. Bayley says she has worked hard for the title and that it is bigger than anybody, but she agrees with Stephanie. She then announces she's not giving up the title, saying she won it because of the WWE Universe and promising to be a fighting champion, and that there is nothing anyone can do about it. Suddenly, Charlotte shows up. She apologizes on behalf of the Raw Women's division for Sasha and Bayley being so disrespectful. She then says she doesn't want Bayley to give up the title, because she will take it back at Fastlane. Sasha then reminds Charlotte that her knee is 100% again, and challenges Charlotte to a match. Charlotte says that Sasha is the reason the Raw Women's title is on Bayley's shoulder, and relishes the opportunity just to put her in a wheelchair forever. Stephanie makes the match official, then announces that the match is happening right now.

Sasha Banks beats Charlotte with the Banks Statement after Bayley stops Dana Brooke from interfering, distracting Charlotte and allowing Sasha to hit the Backstabber and the Banks Statement for the win.

Former WCW World Heavyweight Champion Diamond Dallas Page is the newest inductee in the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2017.

Charly Caruso interviews Sami Zayn, and says he warned Chris Jericho that Kevin Owens would stab him in the back. He isn't happy about it, saying he knows Kevin Owens and Samoa Joe very well as they are very selfish people. He says that time will catch up to Samoa Joe, as it is far from over between them. He then says that he looks forward to kicking Kevin Owens' teeth in tonight.

Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn almost ends before it can begin when Sami Zayn is attacked from behind by Samoa Joe during his entrance. Joe then says to Sami Zayn "Say my name again! This is your world now!" before tossing Sami into the ring with Samoa Joe.

Kevin Owens beats Sami Zayn.

In Memory of Ivan Koloff, 1942-2017.

Commissioner Stephanie McMahon confronts General Manager Mick Foley for being an embarrassment at Samoa Joe's contract signing, and Foley says that he considered supporting Sasha Banks and Bayley because he enjoys seeing Stephanie being embarrassed. Stephanie tells him his actions are akin to insubordination. Foley then not just asks, but tells Stephanie McMahon not to treat him like he is stupid, and that since he has trusted her, Seth Rollins is injured again, especially since Mick Foley told Triple H about how great Samoa Joe is way back when. He knows he is committing career suicide, but he is tired of being belittled and does not want anything to get in the way of him doing what he feels is right. Stephanie tells Foley to watch out as there is a cord on the floor and she doesn't want him to have another accident.

Michael Cole interviews Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar. Heyman says that Lesnar disagrees when some say that Kevin Owens is becoming the most violent champion in WWE history, and that he disagrees that Goldberg will be in for a long night if he takes Owens light. Heyman says that that Owens has a shot to walk into WrestleMania as WWE Universal Championship, but if Goldberg nails Owens with a Spear and a Jackhammer, it's over for both Owens and Goldberg, and Lesnar will take the Universal title from Goldberg at WrestleMania.

Next week on Raw: Goldberg returns! A sit-down interview with Seth Rollins!
