Raw Deal - Raw recap for March 9, 1998

"The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock and Steve Blackman beat Faarooq and "The Rock" Rocky Maivia by disqualification when the rest of The Nation of Domination (D'Lo Brown, Kama Mustafa, "The World's Strongest Man" Mark Henry) interfere. After the match, The Rock tells the rest of The Nation he wants a piece of Shamock, and Faarooq lets The Rock have him. Shamrock starts fighting back, however, and even when Shamrock has The Rock in the ankle lock, the rest of The Nation refuse to intervene as Faarooq refuses to let them do so. Referees and officials eventually have to restore order. (During the match, technical difficulties in the form of static in the feed occasionally pop up, and continue to do so at intermittent periods during the show.)

A camera crew is trained at the back of the arena for the arrival of "Stone Cold" Steve Austin.

D-Generation X ("Triple H" Hunter Hearst Helmsley and Chyna) - without "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels - shows up and welcomes the crowd to another episode of their "pre-WrestleMania showdown." Triple H talks about how Chyna got into Owen Hart's head, and this week, she might just take it to a physical level if she wants to. Triple H says Shawn cannot make it tonight, and shows footage of last week's attack on "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. We then see Shawn Michaels on the TitanTron, and see that he is in a restaurant due to prior commitment. He brags about getting "Iron" Mike Tyson on their side, and said he did what he told the world he was going to do when he attacked Austin last week. He says that Austin is like everyone else, having failed to show him anything new and is nothing more than a fad while he will continue to be WWF Champion. Triple H then says he has two words for everybody: "Suck it." He and Chyna then make guest on commentary, with Kevin Kelly making way for Triple H on the table.

Before the next match, Owen Hart confronts "Triple H" Hunter Hearst Helmsley.

Barry Windham beats Owen Hart by count-out after Jim Cornette distracts the referee and Chyna hits Owen Hart with a low blow. After the match, Bradshaw goes after Barry Windham while "Triple H" Hunter Hearst Helmsley and Chyna run to the back. During the match, Owen Hart accidentally rolls his right ankle while stepping off the second rope.

"Marvelous" Marc Mero handcuffs himself to Sable as Sable asks the referee if he will be the only one with the key.

Jerry "The King" Lawler interviews Paul Bearer, who is in the back with Kane. Bearer is in no mood to talk about The Undertaker; instead, he wants to talk about how Kane manhandled Vader last month. As he continues to talk to Bearer, boxes near Kane, Bearer and Lawler continue to open and close on their own. Bearer and Lalwer run away, while Kane just stares at the boxes.

Kevin Kelly, now back on commentary, says he has talked to the people in the production truck, and reveals that they have told him that tonight's techinical difficulties are not on their end and cannot explain what is going on.

Aguila - who is mentioned on commentary as suffering from dehydration - beats "Too Sexy" Brian Christopher after Jerry "The King" Lawler is caught pushing Aguila off the top rope by the referee, after having a brawl with Taka Michinoku, who confronts him for trying to distract the referee. During the match, the lights dim in and out and sounds of what seem like thunder can be heard, briefly spooking Jerry "The King" Lawler. Taka Michinoku drop kicks Lawler out of the ring, and when Lawler and Christopher make their way, the thunder can be heard and the light dim in and out again, and the two of them run to the back.

We see Andre The Giant win a battle royal at WrestleMania 2 as part of the M&Ms Millenium Moment.

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin is finally in the building, and he makes his way to the ring. Austin says he's seen the footage of WWF owner Vince McMahon calling "Iron" Mike Tyson "unquestionably the baddest man on the planet" last week and it's gotten him a little pissed off. After replaying the footage, he calls that a slap in his face, and asks the audience to give him a "hell yeah" if they think it's an insult. Austin threatens to sit in the ring for the rest of the show until Vince McMahon shows up and they straighten out the matter. Austin asks for a cold beer, and says he's not gong anywhere. Instead of Vince, he gets Jack Lanza and Gerald Brisco, and Austin dares them to get in the ring. When they refuse, he tells them to bring out Vince McMahon. Austin continues to wait for Vince, then WWF Commissioner Sgt. Slaughter shows up. Austin tells Slaughter to bring Vince out, and we see Vince backstage. He then gives Vince 30 seconds before he beats Slaughter's ass before doing the same to Vince. We see Vince backstage, with Gerald Briscoe telling him to get in the ring as he is the only person Austin will listen to.

After the commerical break, Pat Patterson shows up with security. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin is unimpressed with Patterson's efforts to reason with him, and Austin dares Patterson to get in the ring. The security men play it smart and leave, while Patterson asks them what is wrong with them while he reluctantly follows them. Vince finally shows up with numerous WWF officials. Austin calls Vince out for insulting him and following "Iron" Mike Tyson around. When Vince tries to get in the ring, Austin dares him to get in. He says that Vince has jerked the carpet out from under him and insulted him for the last time, and tells Vince to call him the world's toughest S.O.B. before accusing Vince of trying to provoke him. Vince says it was a figure of speech, but Austin says he has one for him: the middle finger. Austin says Vince doesn't want to see him as the WWF Champion, and tells him to give him a "hell yeah" if he does. Vince refuses to do so, and Austin gives Vince the first shot at him because if he had it, he'd lay him out on the ring. Vince refuses to hit him, and even after he rips his suit jacket, he still refuses. Austin gives him ten seconds to either hit him or leave, and asks for a "hell yeah" if the crowd wants to see him lay Vince out. Vince leaves along with the officials, and Austin says that he will lay "Triple H" Hunter Hearst Helmsley out in the middle of the ring. He knows that "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels isn't here tonight, but the next time he sees him, he will kick him down until he takes the WWF Championship.

Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie beat The Quebecers (Jacques and Pierre). During the match, it is announced that the NWA Tag Team title match will not happen tonight due to "Stone Cold" Steve Austin holding the show hostage, and that the match will take place this weekend on Superstars. After the match, "Road Dog" Jesse James - now with his arm in a cast - shows up and says that if the dumpster ride was fun, they should wait until WrestleMania. He says he could fight them if he was healthy, but he's not at 100% and can't swing a chair at 90 miles per hour. He says Chainsaw Charlie isn't at 100% either, and dares him to come at him to "get some of what he can't." As Cactus Jack slowly chases Jesse James to the back, "Badd Ass" Billy Gunn comes out of the crowd and hits Terry Funk in the back with a chair. James and Gunn make fun of them, and Gunn tells Cactus Jack not to leave Chainsaw Charlie's side again.

Kane and Paul Bearer show up. Bearer says The Undertaker made a mistake coming back, and the more he thinks about it, the madder he gets. Bearer says he and Kane did The Undertaker a favor by sending him back to the dark side alongside with his parents, but now that The Undertaker is back, Kane has only just begun and The Undertaker has stepped back into an inferno. Suddenly, the lights dim in and out. The Undertaker appears, then the lights go out again. When they come back on, he disappears. Bearer then says that at WrestleMania, The Undertaker will face Kane in the eyes and be sent back to the dark side, never to return.

Raw airs next Tuesday night as a special St. Patrick's Day edition!

Luna Vachon and Sable are handcuffed to separate ring posts before the next match.

"Marvelous" Marc Mero vs. The Artist Formerly Known As Goldust ends in a no-decision. During the match, it is confirmed that "Triple H" Hunter Hearst Helmsley will be allowed security on the way to the ring for his match. Also during the match, Goldust sends Mero into referee Mike Chioda. After a Curtain Call to Mero, he hits Mike Chioda with the leg drop before taking the handcuff key from his pocket. He teases freeing Sable from the handcuffs, but frees Luna Vachon instead and sics her on Sable. Luna then forces make-up onto Sable's face, and referees have to get Luna off Sable as Luna splashes a cup of water into Sable's face. Sable is then freed from the handcuffs, and referees - and Mero - have to hold Sable back to keep her from going after Luna.

The Artist Formerly Known As Goldust is tired of holding Luna Vachon back, and says it's time for Luna to get a piece of Sable's ass. He challenges "Marvelous" Marc Mero and Sable to a mixed tag match. Luna says she would turn Sable's face in her canvas, and she did. She then says Mero and Sable can have the whole enchilada, and that she and Goldust will soon be the vandals on their mind.

We see a video package of the events between "Iron" Mike Tyson, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and D-Generation X ("The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels, "Triple H" Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Chyna). Jim Ross interviews "Iron" Mike Tyson says being at Royal Rumble was like a dream come true, but never showed up on WWF programming as he was skeptical as to how he would be treated. During his first meeting with "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, he says that Austin disrespected and that he will not take that from anybody. He doesn't care about being a fair, impartial enforcer at WrestleMania 14, and the only thing that is "fair" to him is winning.

"Triple H" Hunter Hearst Helmsley makes his way to the ring, flanked by Chyna and three referees. The referees are positioned at the bottom of the entrance ramp to watch for "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. Other officials including WWF Commissioner Sgt. Slaughter, as well as Miguel Perez, Jesus Castillo and Jose Estrada Jr. also position themselves around the ring. It isn't long before Austin shows up as Triple H faces Savio Vega, and as Austin hits everyone with Stone Cold Stunners, "The Heartbreak Kid' Shawn Michaels comes out through the crowd and hits Austin with Sweet Chin Music. The show cuts off just before he tries to injure Austin's knee with a steel chair.
