Raw Deal - Raw recap for February 23, 1998

Before the next match, "Road Dog" Jesse James of The New Age Outlaws (Road Dog, "Badd Ass" Billy Gunn) says that when the Outlaws are done with The Legion of Doom (Road Warrior Animal and Road Warrior Hawk), they will sweep the L.O.D.'s career not under a rug like they did Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie, but off into a dumpster.

The New Age Outlaws ("Road Dog" Jesse James and "Badd Ass" Billy Gunn) retain the WWF Tag Team Championships against The Legion of Doom (Road Warrior Animal and Road Warrior Hawk) when the referee is pre-occupied with Hawk, telling him to get back in the ring. Billy Gunn then attacks Hawk and knocks him out of the ring, and while the referee's back is still turned, Gunn hits Animal in the head with one of the tag team titles. Animal confronts Hawk for costing them the match, and the two of them go at it in the ring, and referees and officials have to restrain both men.

"The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock beats Jeff Jarrett by knockout after Shamrock accidentally elbows the referee in the face, which allows for a tennis racket shot to the face that ends up hitting Jarrett instead. After the match, Jarrett tells Michael Cole it's time for him and Cornette to go their separate ways.

We look back at "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels' entrance from WrestleMania 12 as part of the WrestleMania Millennium Moment, courtesy of M&M's.

Road Warrior Animal tells Jerry "The King" Lawler he's in no mood for an interview, saying that Lawler knows nothing about family and that as far as family goes, he doesn't have a brother. Road Warrior Hawk hears this and goes after Animal, and referees, officials and the other Superstars in the room have to separate both men.

The Truth Commission (Recon and Sniper) and Kurrgan the Interrogator beat The Disciples of Apocalypse (Chainz, Skull, 8-Ball) by pinfall with Kurrgan's Paralyzer. The Jackyl berates Recon and Sniper again for not tagging in. Sniper confronts The Jackyl, and Kurrgan puts Sniper in the Paralyzer. Recon also confronts The Jackyl and begs him to call Kurrgan off, but The Jackyl leaves and Kurrgan drags Sniper with him, the Paralyzer still applied.

"The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels says that when it comes to legalities towards "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, it is an open and shut case. Chyna took "Stone Cold" Steve Austin's best shot and she's still here. He then says that D-Generation X (Shawn, "Triple H" Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Chyna) polices their own, and tells Triple H that WWE is looking for a reaction. Triple H says WWE is looking for ratings, and that the next four weeks will be something, because if all hell breaking loose is their version of must-see TV, DX will set the Nielsen books on fire. Shawn says that next week will be a great place to start, as everyone will be at Raw: Owen Hart, Austin and, supposedly, "Iron" Mike Tyson. Shawn guarantees that it will end when he retains the WWF Championship at WrestleMania 14. Triple H then guarantees that WrestleMania 14 will be stamped "X-rated," and that discretion will be advised but definitely ignored.

Jim Cornette guests on commentary for the next match.

Taka Michinoku vs. Barry Windham ends when Paul Bearer and Kane suddenly show up. Kane choke slams Taka Michinoku before hitting him with a Tombstone Piledriver. Paul Bearer says that there is only one Superstar he is interested in, and that Superstar is "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. Bearer tells Austin that if he has the guts, he'll get in the ring and look Kane in the eye.

The intro to War Zone plays to signal the start of the second hour.

Michael Cole interviews "Badd Ass" Billy Gunn, who gloats about the demise of The Legion of Doom (Road Warrior Animal and Road Warrior Hawk), saying that he and "Road Dog" Jesse James caused the split-up. James says that what The Legion of Doom doesn't cut it anymore, as it is a new age. Michael Cole can't get any more words out of them, and as The New Age Outlaws (James, Gunn) leave, a chainsaw can be heard in the distance. Chainsaw Charlie comes out from underneath an 18-wheeler and attacks their car with a chainsaw, while Cactus Jack shows up and bashes the front windshield with a baseball bat. The New Age Outlaws

We see The Artist Formerly Known As Goldust's rendition of his father, Dusty Rhodes. After a video package where Goldust mimics his father's accent to great effect, he shows up - without Luna Vachon - dressed much like Dusty was when he was in the WWF, albeit with his tanktop and trunks stuffed to mock how heavy Dusty was.

Bradshaw beats The Artist Formely Known As Goldust in a comedic match. After the match, Michael Cole interviews Goldust, who says that he doesn't quite compare to his father Dusty Rhodes as he is in a hurry to get the tights off.

Kevin Kelly tries to get a word from Road Warrior Hawk, but to no avail.

Steve Blackman beats Rocky "The Rock" Maivia after Faarooq's distraction of the referee and D'Lo Brown's interference attempt of tossing Blackman's nunchaku to The Rock backfires when he overshoots and Blackman catches them instead. The Rock confronts D'Lo Brown, who tells him that Faarooq told him to do it. The Rock calls out Faarooq, who doesn't even seem to care about what happened to The Rock.

Kevin Kelly interviews Luna Vachon, who says she is waiting for Sable to make her grand appearance so she can rearrange her face.

Before the next match, WWF Commissioner Sgt. Slaughter replaces NWA referee Tommy Young with WWF referee Earl Hebner as Tommy Young has nothing to do with the WWF. Jim Cornette briefly gets on a commentary headset and makes his irritation with this turn of events known.

The Headbangers (Thrasher and Mosh) beat The Rock 'n Roll Express (Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson) to win the NWA World Tag Team Championships after Jim Cornette hits Mosh in the back with his tennis racket. Unbeknowns to Cornette, however, Mosh falls right on top of Ricky Morton, and doesn't know that The Headbangers have won them until it's too late. During the match, it is announced that Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie will face The New Age Outlaws ("Road Dog" Jesse James and "Badd Ass" Billy Gunn) for the WWF Tag Team Championships with an as-of-yet unknown stipulation.

It is announced that Pete Rose will be a part of WrestleMania 14.

"Marvelous" Marc Mero sends Sable to the back before the next match, but it isn't long before Sable comes back.

Owen Hart retains the WWF European Championship by disqualification against "Marvelous" Marc Mero when Mero shoves the referee. After the match, Luna Vachon comes after Sable again. As referees and officials try to restore order, The Artist Formerly Known As Goldust tries to restrain Sable, but Mero attacks him for putting his hands on Sable. As Goldust and Luna lave, Sable gets on the microphone and says "Get your ass back here, you little bitch!" Luna has to be carried to the back by Goldust to keep her from getting back in the ring.
