Raw Deal - Raw recap for February 2, 1998

The show starts with a special report from D-Generation X ("The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels, "Triple H" Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Chyna). Shawn says that they were informed that TSN, Star TV, Sky Sports and USA Network were drawing the line on standards and practices as it relates to WWF programming and DX. In the future, they have to be careful what they do and don't do, as they get into trouble when they do something gratuitously. Therfore, the following is the standards and practices that DX adheres to. Triple H then takes the stand and announces that from the hours of 9 to 10 PM, DX will only use "ass," "damn" and "hell." He then utters the curse words they can't, which are all predictably bleeped out as his face is covered with a DX-style censor graphic, and mentions that any other sexual or racial slurs will not be uttered. From 10 PM to 11 PM, DX will only use "ass," damn," "hell," and a fourth word that is censored. Once again, Triple H then utters the curse words they can't, which are all predictably bleeped out as his face is covered with a DX-style censor graphic, and mentions once again that any other sexual or racial slurs will not be uttered. As it pertains to video, DX promises there will be less [censored] references. Shawn responds with "Aw, shit," to which Triple H responds "Watch your fuckin' mouth..." and Shawn replies "Fuck me" before Triple H says "Goddammit! Fuck!" (The curse words in the last few sentences are obviously censored, but it's pretty obvious what they are.) Triple H says there will also be less reference to their enormous genitalia. Shawn gets back to the podium and says that although the favorite pastime in the "Oral Office" is "swallow the leader," he did not sleep with that young intern. As a matter of face, he was up all night.

D-Generation X ("The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels, "Triple H" Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Chyna) show up, with Shawn and Triple H in blue and white tuxedo tops and bowties with American flag top hats as they carry signs with sexual jokes, their preferences in women and how they want "Iron" Mike Tyson and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin in the ring. Red, white and blue balloons drop down from the roof of the arena. Shawn and Triple H say "Let them fight!" and announce that they want Tyson and Austin to fight at WrestleMania, because this is America, and only in America does justice prevail. Austin shows up and stares down with Shawn, then says that he appreciate a fight between him and Tyson and want to promote it, as he can beat the crap out of Tyson. However, when he won the Royal Rumble, it meant that Shawn's ass belongs to him. Whether it happens at WrestleMania, tonight or another day, the WWF Championship is coming with him whether Shawn likes it or not. Austin then tells Shawn he can beat anybody's ass in the world. Shawn and Austin then stare down a little longer, then Austin leaves after also staring down Triple H and flipping Chyna off.

Chainsaw Charlie - aka Terry Funk - comes out with a garbage carrier full of weapons. In footage from earlier tonight, Mick Foley says he's not a kid anymore and is worried about kind of legacy he will leave in professional wrestling. Ten years ago, after a match in Columbus, Ohio, the current world heavyweight champion was awaiting him with rage and told him that nobody cared about him or his high-flying moves and that he would be in a wheelchair before he was 30. He has remembered that moment ever since, and guesses that he is on borrowed time and that he might as well going down swinging. Terry Funk says there's a lot riding on tonight's match, as whoever wins will be king of the hardcore wrestlers. Funk says he is middle-aged and crazy, and that he wants to go down as a hardcore wrestler and that it won't be long until he does, which he might tonight. He says he loves Foley like a son, but tonight, there can only be one. After the footage, we hear Mick Foley say "That's not a garbage can! This is a garbage can!" before Mick Foley - as Cactus Jack - shows up with a dumpster full of weapons. This starts a no-holds-barred match between Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie.

Cactus Jack vs. Chainsaw Charlie ends in disaster. At one point in the match, Cactus Jack leaps from the bottom of the TitanTron to the inside of the dumpster to hit Chainsaw Charlie with an elbow drop. Suddenly, The New Age Outlaws ("Road Dog" Jesse James and "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn) tie the dumpster lids shut and push the dumpster off the side of the stage. Officals, referees and even WWF Superstars open the dumpster and find Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie inside, barely able to move. Charlie complains about pain in his neck, and Vince McMahon confronts The New Age Outlaws, with Road Dog saying they didn't mean to do what they did, even though they were very proud of what they had done after they pushed teh dumpster. Some of the WWF Superstars and officials confront The New Age Outlaws as well, and the last thing we see before the break is Chainsaw Charlie's hand twitching. After the break, Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie are stabilized. Flash Funk has to be held back by referees and officials as he wants to fight The New Age Outlaws, but the rest of the WWF Superstars get their hands on them and beat them up as oxygen is administered to Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie, who are then placed in an ambulance. Sunny, who is distraught during the entire time, is seen in tears before the ambulance slowly drives away.

The New Age Outlaws ("Road Dog" Jesse James and "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn) say they don't have much in the way of opportunities to get over, so when they see an opportunity, they attack it. Just when Road Dogg admits they may have went too far, "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels and "Triple H" Hunter Hearst Helmsley meet up with them and defends their behavior, saying if they didn't do it, it would have been them and that they pulled in some ratings, as they exemplified what D-Generation X (Shawn, Triple H, Chyna) does every single week. They tell them to suck it up, as the show goes on.

The intro to War Zone plays to signal the start of the second hour.

When The New Age Outlaws ("Road Dog" Jesse James and "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn) come out for the next match, Road Dog is about to talk trash again when he responds to the crowd's thoughts of them by saying "Forget it!" Not surprisingly, when Owen Hart gets in the ring for the next match, he goes right on the warpath on Billy Gunn.

Owen Hart beats "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn by disqualification when "Road Dog" Jesse James interferes. After the match, D-Generation X ("The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels, "Triple H" Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Chyna) show up and attack Owen, taking him all the way to the stage where Triple H hits Owen with a DDT before Road Dog and Billy Gunn almost toss him onto the concerte floor below when they are stopped by referees and officials.

Michael Cole is at the hospital. All he knows is that medical personnel are working on Mick Foley and Terry Funk, and that an update will be forthcoming within the hour.

Before the next match, "Marvelous" Marc Mero chastises Sable for not wearing a robe on the way to the ring. As she leaves, Mero notices that Sable has been handed a box of chocolates, and tosses it away before telling her to get out and get back on the Stairmaster. After Sable leaves, Mero brings out someone who will watch his back: "Marilyn," who is The Artist Formerly Known As Goldust dressed similarly to Marilyn Manson.

"Marvelous" Marc Mero beats Mosh after hitting Mosh with a low blow and a schoolboy pin while the referee is pre-occupied with Thrasher and The Artist Formerly Known As Goldust.

Barry Windham, now with blonde hair, tells Blackjack Bradshaw he has an NWA champion with the tradition to step in the ring with him as a tag team partner who will be better than Bradshaw ever was. After Windham tells him to get professional help for his temper, Bradshaw tells Windham to find some guts and not some tradition, and says he'll get anyone he can to get Windham in the ring. WIndham says he has all the guts he needs and challenges him to a tag team match so he can see what he's made of.

We get a look at Tiger Ali Singh, who now has the gimmick of a successful rich man wants to be recognized as the greatest fighter of all time.

Chainz shows up with Skull, 8-Ball, Ahmed Johnson and "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock before the next match.

Chainz beats Faarooq by count-out after miscommunication between Faarooq and the rest of The Nation of Domination (D'Lo Brown, Kama Mustafa, "The Rock" Rocky Maivia, "The World's Strongest Man" Mark Henry). During the match, Michael Cole reports that Vince McMahon is at the hospital and that Terry Funk aka Chainsaw Charlie has regained consciousness. However, Mick Foley is lapsing in and out of consciousness. It is also announced that The Nation of Domination will take on The Disciples of Apocalypse (Chainz, Skull, 8-Ball), Ahmed Johnson and "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock in a 5-on-5 war of attrition at In Your House: No Way Out Of Texas.

Blackjack Bradshaw, now known as Justin "Hawk" Bradshaw again, comes out to the next match with Flash Funk as his tag team partner.

Despite Justin "Hawk" Bradshaw and Flash Funk beat Jeff Jarrett and Barry Windham with a lethal clothesline from Bradshaw to Jarrett. During the match, Flash Funk is attacked by The Rock 'n Roll Express (Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson) at ringside, and referees have to help Flash Funk to the back. After the match, Bradshaw beats up Jarrett and Windham, and when Jim Cornette smacks Bradshaw in the back with his tennis racket, he fails to go down. After Bradshaw punches Cornette, The Rock 'n Roll Express, Jarrett and Windham gang up on Bradhsaw and hit him with a four-man neckbreaker before Windham hits Bradshaw with a splash hitting Bradshaw's knee while Jarrett and The Rock 'n Roll Express hold him down.

Michael Cole reports that hell has broken loose in the emergency room at the hospital, and police have been called. He says that a heavy security presence is now in the hospital and the situation is grave. Cole breaks up and cannot be heard after this.

It is announced that at the All-Star Cafe in New York City, there will be a press conference on Thursday at noon Eastern Standard Time. Vince McMahon, D-Generation X ("The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels, "Triple H" Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Chyna), Don King and "Iron" Mike Tyson. It will be carried on ESPNews, CNNSI and TSN.

A man named Wink Collins is in the ring. He announces that as of this morning, WrestleMania 14 sold out as quickly as 90 seconds. (Wink Collins is also known for his appearance as the game show host in the "Tee Via Trivia" skit with "Billionaire Ted," "Nacho Man" and "The Huckster" from a few years back.) As he advertises the show on pay-per-view for those who don't have tickets, the arena goes dark and Kane and Paul Bearer shows up. Bearer tells Kane to show Wink Collins "a little taste of the hell The Undertaker is living right now." Beofre Kane can choke slam Wink Collins, Vader shows up, pushes a cameraman down, and tells Kane that he stuck his nose in his business and drew first blood. He then tells Kane that his ass belongs to him at No Way Out Of Texas, then says he will put his fire out right now. Vader sprays Kane in the face with a fire extinguisher, forcing him and Paul Bearer to retreat. Kane tries to get in the ring, but Bearer holds him back and Vader sprays him with the fire extinguisher.

Before the next match, "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn says people made be mad at The New Age Outlaws ("Road Dog" Jesse James, Billy Gunn) right now, but when the Nielsen ratings come in at 6 PM tomorrow night, some people in Titan Towers will be happy with them. He also says that "Stone Cold" Steve Austin is not the toughest S.O.B. in the World Wrestling Federation. It is also announced that a hospital has come back to the arena, though it is not clear if it is the same ambulance that took Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie to the hospital. After Austin gets in the ring to face Road Dog in a match, it isn't long before the match ends after the attempted interference of Billy Gunn. D-Generation X ("The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels, "Triple H" Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Chyna) show sup an d attacks Austin along with The New Age Outlaws. As Austin is tired up in the ropes and Shawn tells Austin he will never get the gold, Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie - the former with an IV in his arm and the latter in a hospital gown - show up and scare D-Generation X and The New Age Outlaws out of the ring while Austin chases them to the back. Austin the walks back out to the ring and rips a D-Generation X in half as the show ends.

The cameras kept rolling after the show went off the air. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin says he will kick anybody's ass through a commentary headset before posing in the ring and pushing a cameraman and popping one of the baloons from the beginnong of the show with his bare hands in front of it.
