Nitro-Glycerin - Monday Nitro recap for February 2, 1998

The show starts with a performance by The Nitro Girls.

Juventud Guerrera beats Psychosis. During the match, Raven's Flock (Saturn, Lodi, Van Hammer, Scotty Riggs, Sick Boy, Billy Kidman) are seen heading to the front row.

We see a promotional video for "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan vs. Sting for the vacant WCW World Heavyweight Championship at SuperBrawl VIII as it is announced that Sting will be wrestling tonight.

We see another performance by The Nitro Girls.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews Diamond Dallas Page. Page says he sees "The Crippler" Chris Benoit as one of the most underrated wrestlers on the planet. He respects his accomplishments and his work ethic, which led him to challenge Benoit for a match on this week's Thunder with the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship on the line. He says that Benoit has earned the nickname of "The Crippler," and says he knows he wants a shot at the title and that the fans want to see it. More than anything, he wants the match because he thinks Benoit is one of the best up-and-coming wrestler on the planet, and wants to know if he can make him feel the bang.

We see a video package of the most recent events involving The Giant. It is announced that THe Giant has suffered a mild concussion and vertebrae damage, and that the fine for performing a Jackknife Power Bomb - by Kevin Nash or any other WCW wrestler - has been tripled to $150,000.

Ultimo Dragon beats Billy Kidman with the Dragon Sleeper. After the match, Ultimo Dragon fights off Raven's Flock (Saturn, Lodi, Van Hammer, Scotty Riggs, Sick Boy), but the numbers game quickly catches up with him before Kidman hits Ultimo Dragon with a top rope Shooting Star Press.

Kevin Nash shows up, out of jail after what happened last week. He has a match with The Steiner Brothers (Rick and Scott Steiner), and demands that Billy Kidman be fined for using the Tiger Bomb and escorted out of the arena in handcuffs. He says the real problem is not the Jackknife Power Bomb itself, but the man who does it, and that WCW thought The Giant was their trump card. Nash brags once again about dropping The Giant on the back of his neck at Souled Out. He says there's a fine he can't pay, and that he also has someone who will pay his fines in the form of "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan, and that he'll do what he wants to who he wants, when he wants, as he's too big, too talented, too sexy and just too sweet.

Pyrotechnics signal the start of the second hour.

Before the next match, Chris Jericho - still mocking wearing a Rey Mysterio Jr. shirt - says an apology isn't necessary and that what is necessary is a great big "thank you" to all the "Jerichoholics" for making him the champion that he is today. He tells Rey that he hopes his knee injury will never, ever happen again.

Chris Jericho retains the WCW Cruiserweight Championship against Super Calo with the Lion Tamer.

Booker T retains the WCW World Television Championship against Steven Regal.

Konnan beats Hugh Morrus.

Before the next match, Scott Hall shows his disappointment with "Rowdy" Roddy Piper for keeping him from a title shot, and doesn't know if he should be angry at Sting or at "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan. Dusty Rhodes says he stands in council over this and that Scott Hall got shafted, but in the nWo, the road - and the party - never ends. After Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart shows up for the match, Louie Spicolli appears and tells Scott Hall not to wrestle until he gets his title shot, and to let him wrestle Neidhart tonight. As Spicolli gets close to Neidhart, Hall attacks Neidhart from behind with a microphone shot, starting the match early.

Scott Hall beats Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart after Dusty Rhodes distracts Neidhart, stopping a submission finish to Scott Hall from occuring and allowing Hall to hit The Outsider's Edge. After the match, Louie Spicolli hits a few elbows on Neidhart, then Davey Boy Smith rushes in and sends Spicolli out of the ring to save Neidhart.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews Lex Luger. It is announced that Luger will take on "Macho Man" Randy Savage in a no-disqualification match at SuperBrawl VIII. He is counting down until the night he takes on Savage, as Savage is outside of the fringe and he no longer respects him. He says that Savage does not have a friend in the world to help him, which has lead to a no-DQ match that has been set up by Savage and will be finished by Luger. He is ready for the most dangerous man in wrestling, as all he did last week was fire him up and that he had better be ready for the Torture Rack at SuperBrawl.

The Bryce family from Hartford, Wisconsin is the winner of this week's Nitro Party back. We see some footage of their Nitro party.

We see another performance from The Nitro Girls, this time in the stands.

Bill Goldberg quickly beats Mark Starr.

Before the next match, Steve "Mongo" McMichael says he has to hand it to Davey Boy Smith, as he underestimated him last week. He tells Davey Boy Smith - and the San Antonio, Texas fans - that he won't get fooled again, as his backyard is only 90 minutes away in Austin, Texas.

Steve "Mongo" McMichael and Davey Boy Smith wrestle to a double count-out, and take their brawl all the way to the commentary table before Mongo knocks out referee Mickey Jay. The fight then continues to the back and the show goes to a commercial break.

Pyrotechnics signal the start of the third hour.

"Hollywood" Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff show up. Bischoff tells Hogan that when eh thinks about all the injustices brought up on the nWo by J.J. Dillon and WCW, he just goes berserk. Hogan says this shall be WCW's last stand, as Kevin Nash is the real giant and the protector that watches his back with "all the cutthroats" out there. He says that money is not a problem, and now that Nash beat The Giant, his $1.5 million is in the black, and that Nash has the green light to destroy everyone in the WCW as he sees fit, especially when the fine is only $50,000. After Bischoff says the referee situation for his match against Sting shouldn't even take place, Hogan also says he doesn't need a referee, as he has already beaten Sting twice and that he doesn't have a problem with a rematch where he will beat Sting again. Hogan says that Nick Patrick calls it down the middle like he sees it, and that he should be the referee for his match at SuperBrawl VIII. Bischoff says that Nick Patrick was never proven guilty and is an innocent man, and that it's time to move on. Hogan then mentions "Macho Man' Randy Savage, telling him that if he wants to be on his own, he's on his own, especially now that Savage is facing Sting tonight. He says that Savage will learn what the pecking order is all about, and after Sting eats Savage alive, he will eat Sting alive at SuperBrawl.

Before the next match, Raven speaks into the microphone: "Throughout the trials and tribulations and the heartbreak and the misery that is my life, there is only one man whose advice I've ever heeded, and he told me there are two rules. One is, there are no rules, and two is, someone must feel the DDT. Quoth the Raven, nevermore."

Raven beats Disco Inferno.

We see another performance by The Nitro Girls.

The Steiner Brothers (Rick and Scott Steiner) beat Kevin Nash and Buff Bagwell. Once again, Scott refuses to tag in Rick when he needs to and hits Buff Bagwell with the Frankenstiner to get the win. Rick Steiner and Ted DiBiase confront Scott after the match once again.

Before the next match, "Macho Man" Randy Savage tells Lex Luger to watch what he does to Sting and that he wants none of him. When Sting makes his appearance, he drops down from the rafters and lands in the middle of the crowd before making his way to the ring.

"Macho Man' Randy Savage vs. Sting ends when "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan shows up and pulls Savage off Sting when he has the match won. Lex Luger comes out of the crowd and chases Savage to the back, then Sting fights off the nWo while forcing Hogan to retreat.
