Taka Michinoku beats "Too Sexy" Brian Christopher to become the inaugural WWF Light Heavyweight Champion in a match that sees Brian Christopher busts the bottom of his mouth when he lands chin-first into a security barrier. Taka is presented the title by Gerald Briscoe, Tony Corea and Pat Patterson as the Japanese press snap pictures. (In reality, the belt was created in 1981 during a partnership with the Universal Wrestling Federation and was defended in Mexico until 1996, when it was brought to New Japan Pro Wrestling after being won by The Great Sasuke and made part of NJPW's J-Crown - a combination of eight junior heavyweight, cruiserweight and light heavyweight titles from around the world - by El Samurai. It was then brought back to America in 1997 for the title to be "revived" after it was vacated by Shinjiro Otani at the behest of the WWF, who still owned the trademark to the title. With this act, the J-Crown would be dissolved, as Otani also returned five other titles that were left in the J-Crown back to their original owners. Perry Aguayo is the first person to hold the title, but his first reign all the way up to Shinjiro Otani's reign as part of the J-Crown are not recognized by the WWF, now WWE, and Taka Michinoku is considered by WWE to be the very first Light Heavyweight Champion.)
