Raw Deal - Raw recap for October 13, 1997

It is announced tonight that if The Legion of Doom (Road Warrior Animal and Road Warrior Hawk) do not win the WWF Tag Team Championships tonight, they will retire.

Vince McMahon interviews The Hart Foundation (Bret "The Hit Man" Hart, Owen Hart, Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart) in the ring to start the show. Before Bret can speak on what has happened to him recently, The Kliq ("The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Chyna, "Ravishing" Rick Rude) shows up on the TitanTron. Shawn says Bret is "jerkin' the curtain on my cards" before showing footage of himself sticking the Canadian flag up his nose last week. Triple H says his hands are still hurting from last week and that he is younger, better and bigger than Bret in more ways that one. We then see the ringside beatdown on Bret from Shawn and Chyna just before Triple H got the win last week as Shawn and Triple H laugh their heads off. An enraged Bret challenges Shawn and Triple H to a match right now, but Shawn declined as he beat Bret at WrestleMania and will do it again at Survivor Series, and says he'll beat up his entire family if he gets in his way again. Triple H threatens to beat Bret up, but then realizes he did it last week. Shawn says that he and Bret will cross path with him again tonight, then Shawn and Triple H come to an agreement that they are somehow degenerates and agree upon a new name to call themselves: D-Generation X. Shawn then states "You make the rules, and we plan to break 'em!" Bret tells the newly christened D-Generation X that they won't make it to Survivor Series. Right after this, The Nation of Domination (Faarooq, D'Lo Brown, Kama Mustafa, Rocky Maivia) show up, starting the opening match.

After the commercial break, D-Generation X ("The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Chyna, "Ravishing" Rick Rude) show up and force their way onto commentary for the match, and proceed fun of Bret "The Hit Man" Hart and eating bananas at the expense of Vince McMahon and Jim Ross..

Owen Hart vs. Kama Mustafa ends in a no-contest when Triple H and "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels lure Bret Hart and Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart into a brawl with The Nation of Domination (Faarooq, D'Lo Brown, Kama Mustafa, Rocky Maivia) near the commentary table.

The Godwinns (Henry O. and Phineas I. Godwinn) proclaim that they will get rid of The Legion of Doom (Road Warrior Animal and Road Warrior Hawk) once and for all, saying it was LOD's time then and it's their time now and that getting rid of them will be worth it.

Max Mini and Nova beat Mosaic and Tarantula.

Kane and Paul Bearer show up before Flash Funk can face "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels. Flash Funk tries to fight Kane, but Kane choke slams him before hitting the Tombstone Piledriver. Bearer says that he and Kane will take away everything The Undertaker has every dreamed of and everything he has accomplished. Human eye has not seen nor human ear heard what Kane has in store for him, and that they will stroll through the WWF and destroy everyone in Kane's path. After Kane and Paul Bearer leave, D-Generation X shows up and Shawn "beats" Flash Funk, with Triple H counting the "pinfall," Chyna acting as timekeeper and "Ravishing" RIck Rude accidentally calling Shawn "the pecan of the World Wrestling Federation" before correcting himself.

Before the next match, The Jackyl says that The Disciples of Apocalypse are big, strong individuals, but he has two thugs and a skyscraper in The Truth Commission (Sniper, Recon, The Interrogator) telling him he has nothing to worry about, and that The D.O.A.'s mechanized joyride comes to an end.

The Disciples of Apocalypse (Skull and 8-Ball) beat The Truth Commission (Sniper and Recon) by disqualification when The Jackyl sends one of the biker twins out of the ring by pulling down the top rope. Both factions brawl at ringside after the match, and The Interrogator nearly chokes one of the bikers out.

The intro to the show replays to signify the start of War Zone.

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin is interviewed in the ring by Vince McMahon. Vince has the contract for the WWF Intercontinental Championship match between Austin and Owen Hart as promised, and announces that Austin will be officially reinstated at Survivor Series if he signs the contract. Austin says he doesn't trust him as far as he can throw him and tells him to sign the contract first. Vince signs, then Austin says they have a deal, but Vince tells Austin he has to sign or else he's not getting the match. Austin stands on the second rope and signs the contract in front of the fans. Ausin says there's one thing left to do, and Vince has the feeling it's another Stone Cold Stunner, but instead, Austin wants to shake his hand. They shake hands, but Austin doesn't let go and jerks Vince forward, saying he could turned his lights out and he knows it. Vince then asks Austin what he was doing at the Intercontinental Championship match at Badd Blood. Austin says Faarooq was at the wrong place at the wrong time, that he has nothing against The Nation of Domination (Faarooq, D'Lo Brown, Kama Mustafa, Rocky Maivia) that he wants Owen Hart's ass, and that he does what he wants when he wants. The Nation shows up on the stage, telling Austin "he crossed the railroad tracks" and that Austin sacrificed himself to The Nation. Austin says he doesn't understand a word Faarooq said, but knows he's ticked off, and tells The Nation to get in the ring so they can stomp a mudhole in them and walk it dry. Rocky Maivia volunteers, but he runs right into a Stone Cold Stunner before Austin crawls out of the ring and flees through the crowd.

At Kontrol Headquarters - and in an advertisement for Lazer Tag - The Chief is really "Classy" Freddie Blassie aka The Evil Dr. Madman, but Agent Sable stops him and his goons to...save Mascarita Sagrada? "Dr. Madman" and his goons then go back to playing cards.

The Legion of Doom (Road Warrior Animal and Road Warrior Hawk) say they will find out if they have the fire and desire to be tag team champions after losing out on the titles once before against Owen Hart and The British Bulldog due to outside interference, which they say they have never let bother them before. Animal says they don't want to be living on yesteryear by "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan and "Macho Man" Randy Savage. Hawk says they will find out if they're on top of the hill or over the hill, and if they're over the hill, they're gone.

An article on the Light Heavyweight Division is on the newest issue of WWF Magazine available on newsstands tomorrow.

Before the next match, Vince McMahon calls New York Post sports columnist Phil Mushnick a "miserable son of a bitch," with the last part of that insult bleeped out.

"Too Sexy" Brian Christopher reverses a roll-up and grabs the tights to beat Tajiri in a Light Heavyweight Division match. Tajiri kicks Christopher out of the ring after the match.

Jim Cornette calls out New York Post sports columnist Phil Mushnick for being vehemently against professional wrestling, saying that the world would be better served if World Championship Wrestling closed shop rather than have Ted Turner donate $1 billion to charity. He also calls him out for calling for and spearheading the media barrage over the WWF steroid scandal of recent years in which the Federation and Vince McMahon were proven innocent, as well as ignoring the fact that WWF and McMahon were found innocent. When MSG Network fired Marv Albert, Mushnick used the opportunity to write a column saying that the Garden should cancel wrestling matches. He also hates wrestling fans, saying that the WWF would be out of business "if not for America's lunatic fringe and the disaffected," and that people who take their children to wrestling shows "don't know right from wrong." Mushnick has also wrriten that the majority of wrestling fans who contact him prove his point by flooding his mailbox with "profanities, obscenities and other acts that show them to be a disenfranchised subculture." Cornette says that the wrestling fans do not enjoy being insulted by publications that they pay to read, don't appreciate being told how to raise their children, and definitely do not want a pompous, self-righteous man with a grudge sitting on top of Mount Olympus looking down his nose at the wrestling fans and campaigning to take away the constitutional right that every American is guaranteed: the freedom of speech, choice and the ability to enjoy any type of entertainment they choice. Cornette says that these are facts, not rumors or suppositions, and that it is time the people tell Mushnick what they think of him. Cornette then calls out Mushnick for using Brian Pillman's death for his outcry against wrestling in which Mushnick writes that the media doesn't look hard enough at professional wrestling and that if what happened to Pillman happened in baseball, it would be page one material and a federal inquiry would be launched. Cornette admits that Pillman was a friend of his, and calls Mushnick taking advantage of Pillman's death "more vulgar and obscene than he's ever accused the professional wrestling industry to be guilty of." On behalf of the fans, the industry, Pillman's family, Cornette tells anyone in America who denies any one man the right to force his morals and beliefs on all of us and take away our consitutional rights to "go to Hell and reform things down there, because we're doing just fine up here."

It is announced before the next match that Goldust and Marlena did not renew their wedding vows last week on Raw out of respect for the Pillman family.

Goldust beats Savio Vega with Marlena's purse when Marlena tosses her cigar into the ring, distracting the referee. After the match, Goldust and Marlena run away from the rest of Los Boricuas (Miguel Perez, Jesus Castillo, Jose Estrada Jr.), who were ejected from ringside during the match for interference.

On the WWF Superstar Line, Jim Ross talks about WCW Executive Vice President Eric Bischoff's Internet tirade about him on Option 3.

Series 5 of the official WWF Superstars action figures is available now!

In the newest issue of Raw Magazine: Did the Titan "suits" instigate a war? Also, coverage of the feud between Triple H and Mankind from the past summer!

"Ravishing" Rick Rude kicks The Patriot and tosses coffee into his face before he can face Hunter Hearst Helmsley. "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels and Triple H hold a mock interview when WWF Commissioner Sgt. Slaughter shows up and puts him in a match immediately against someone else. Slaughter then says he is tired of what Chyna, Triple H and Shawn for having no respect for anybody as Rude heads to the back, demanding that they start showing respect. Shawn and Triple H promise to start showing respect before telling Sgt. Slaughter to "suck it," then Sgt. Slaughter brings out Ahmed Johnson, but The Nation of Domination (Faarooq, D'Lo Brown, Kama Mustafa, Rocky Maivia) attack Ahmed as Shawn and Triple H retreat. Rick Rude comes back with popcorn and soda, and D-Generation X (Shawn, Triple H, Chyna, Rude) watch as The Legion of Doom (Road Warrior Animal and Road Warrior Hawk) and "The World 's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock rush in to make the save for Ahmed. The Legion of Doom then calls out The Godwinns (Henry O. and Phineas I. Godwinn), telling them to get their hillbilly asses out here so they can be tag team champs.

The Austin 3:16 black denim vest is only $44 plus $9 shipping and handling.

The Legion of Doom (Road Warrior Animal and Road Warrior Hawk) beat The Godwinns (Henry O. and Phineas I. Godwinn) . During the match, Road Warrior Animal hurts his shoulder, and Henry O. Godwinn hits the referee with the Slop Drop. When ANimal sees what has happened on the TitanTron, he gets back into action. When Uncle Cletus tries to knock Animal out with his horseshoe, Animal ducks and Cletus hits Henry instead. Phineas I. Godwinn goes for a piledriver, but Hawk blocks it and sets up an impromptu Doosmday Device to take the tag team titles after another referee runs in to count the pinfall. The Godwinns then attack Uncle Cletus for costing them the match and the titles.
