Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown recap for August 8, 2025

John Cena heads to the ring to start tonight's show. Cena says that he and the fans have come a long way and that WWE was afraid to come back to Montreal, Quebec, Canada because they thought the fans would hijack the show, but he was never afraid of that, as the audience is the show. Cena says that he can understand why, as he can definitely feel the energy of the fans in Montreal. He admits that the fans in Montreal can be unpredictable, he can still lean into the fans and enjoy every single second. He then states that nothing lasts forever, and the fans chant "Thank you, Cena!" before Cena says he has shared many valuable moments in the ring and thanks the fans. Cena says that he has eleven more shows after tonight, and every night he gets more and more afraid that whatever he does will never be enough and that he will let the fans down. Cena also fears that the fans will forget about him when he is gone and the WWE moves on. He then addresses Brock Lesnar, saying he would never choose Lesnar as an opponent in any universe, but he has also never backed down from Lesnar in any universe. Cena says Brock Lesnar just gave himself "a John Cena problem," as does anyone else who wants to challenge him, and he is down and ready for a fight. If Lesnar wants some, he can come get some, and if anyone else wants to face him, he plans to go down guns blazing. He says that the last time is now, and "If you want some, come get some!" Suddenly, Logan Paul shows up and says that Cena is making him sick now that he is face again and that he does not even know Cena anymore. Cena tells Logan that he just made the biggest mistake of his like, but Logan says they will see about that. He says that nobody knows who Cena is while he has been real since day one, and that Cena has stated that he can do WWE better than any professional wrestler. Logan says that even includes Cena, to which Cena admits to before calling Logan "the biggest dumbass [he has] ever seen in [his] life." Logan calls Cena a liar and just says whatever he is told to say, then says he is the show, not the fans. He states that Cena is now a charity case and is giving out matches, then entertains wrestling Cena. Cena loves the idea, but Logan wants to do this at Clash in Paris, saying Montreal does not deserve this. As Logan continues to speak, Cena is attacked from behind by Drew McIntyre. McIntyre and Logan perform a sarcastic "Thank you, Cena" before they go back on the attack and "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes shows up to even the numbers and help Cena clean house. Cena then accepts Logan's challenge for Clash in Paris, then notes that Logan and McIntyre want to fight and that it seems like he might have a partner in Cody. He then challenges the both of them to a tag team match tonight.

Backstage, Cathy Kelley interviews The Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley). Alex Shelley says SummerSlam may have been brutal, but they have a legacy of getting knocked down and getting backed up. Chris Sabin says they may not be champion, but they have what it takes, and they will climb their way back to the top again.

JC Mateo and Talla Tonga beat The Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley). After the match, Solo Sikoa says that his group is what greatness looks like and that they are soon to be the WWE Tag Team Champions while he is the most dominant WWE United States Champion. He says it is a shame that he is ready for a fight, yet there is nobody in the back to fight, and that he and his group are leaving to go celebrate. General Manager Nick Aldis suddenly shows up and says he has a special guest in the house tonight who is also ready for a fight and ready to go right now: Sami Zayn.

Sami Zayn beats Solo Sikoa after fending off Tanga Loa, JC Mateo and Talla Tonga before ducking the Samoan Spike and winning with a schoolkid pin.

Backstage, Charlotte Flair meets with Alexa Bliss, saying that she has something for her ahead of her birthday tomorrow and that she will see what it is in the ring.

It is announced that WWE and ESPN have agreed to a deal which will bring WWE's premium live events to ESPN's direct-to-consumer streaming service at the beginning of 2026.

We hear from The Wyatt Sicks (Uncle Howdy, Joe Gacy, Dexter Lumis, Erick Rowan, Nikki Cross). Uncle Howdy says they will never lead one astray and that when they speak, they will always speak truth. He says this is what they always sought out to do. Joe Gacy says they have shown that power is nothing more than a harmless illusion. Dexter Lumis says they woke the tag team division up to the reality they have hidden, and Nikki Cross says this is not about fear. Erick Rowan says it is about something bigger, and that there are more lessons to be learned, and that the story has just begun.

Backstage, #DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa) and Candice LeRae confronts The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) and B-Fab for losing the WWE Tag Team Champions and putting them in the mess they are in. Candice LeRae is not happy about the bruise on her leg. General Manager Nick Aldis walks in on the argument and says he will get control of the tag team division if it is the last thing he does, starting with DIY and The Street Profits in a match next week.

Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss make their way to the ring. Charlotte tells Alexa that she is sharing the spotlight with her in commemoration of two celebrations. The birthday cake with Charlotte Flair's name over Alexa's is noted, then Charlotte tells Alexa she has a gift for her. Alexa has her misgivings about the pink gift box, and Charlotte opens the box to reveal a brand new Lilly doll with a "We're Not Friends" T-shirt on. She also reveals that "Charlie" - the Charlotte doll that Alexa gave her four years ago - is in the box. Alexa is amazed, but Charlotte says that is not enough and allows Alexa to hug her, which Alexa is about to do after some hesitation before Chelsea Green and her Secret Hervice arrive. Chelsea Green makes fun of Montreal, Quebec, Canada for not seeing champions often before mocking the Lily and Charlie dolls and stating that she and her homecoming should be celebrated. Charlotte then says she has one more gift for Alexa: kicking Chelsea Green's ass tonight. Chelsea tries to get out of it, but General Manager Nick Aldis shows up with a brand new referee, whose first assignment will be Chelsea Green vs. Charlotte Flair right now.

Backstage, Carmelo Hayes runs into The Miz as he tries to meet with General Manager Nick Aldis. Carmelo is not happy that The Miz left him high and dry and that he is going for a United States title shot. The Miz says that he has gotten with Nick Aldis and that they will have a tag team match next week to remind everyone of who they are, which Carmelo approves of. Aldis shows up after Carmelo leaves, revealing that he never made the tag team match official and that he is about to talk to Aldis about it.

Charlotte Flair beats Chelsea Green by submission with the Figure Eight after Chelsea calls for the birthday cake and goes for an Un-Pretty-Her into the cake only for Charlotte to reverse the move with one of her own, send Chelsea into the cake, and make her submit with the Figure Eight. After the match, Alexa and Charlotte celebrate with the birthday cake.

Backstage, Cathy Kelley interviews Tiffany Stratton. Tiffany says she wants to keep defending the WWE Women's Championship like she always was. Jade Cargill shows up and says that next time, the story will be different, but Tiffany says she will stay WWE Women's Champion. Giulia and Kiana James show up after Cathy Kelley and Tiffany leave, and Kiana hands Cargill a business card in case she wants to face Giulia for the Women's United States Championship. Michin shows up, and Jade Cargill hands her the business card.

We hear from Aleister Black, who says that he is allowed to use violence to stop a greater violence from happening, and that conviction is the true difference between good and evil. He says that he is more of "an eye for any other limb" kind of guy and that Damian Priest is now at home nursing a hairline fracture in his jaw. He says that when someone pushes Priest, he pushed back, but when he gets pushed, he pushes the other person off the cliff and watches the other person fall to their death, and if that makes him evil, so be it.

Backstage, Ron Killings runs into John Cena. They both do the "mirror man" thing and says the real Cena is back, and if the real Cena is back, then so is R-Truth. Cena explains himself while turning the tables on R-Truth at the same time, then says it is good to have R-Truth back.

John Cena and "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes beat Logan Paul and Drew McIntyre by disqualification after Logan hits Cena with a low blow in full view of the referee. After the match, Cena and Logan brawl their way to the back, while Cody continues to fight McIntyre on the outside. McIntyre blasts Cody with the Undisputed WWE Championship to the face, then looks at the title before Claymore Kicking Cody through the bottom of the announce desk.

At the start of the show, Jacob Fatu attacks Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga and JC Mateo outside of the arena until security and officials show up.

"The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes heads to the ring to start tonight's show. Cody talks about his King of the Ring victory and states that it not only signifies where we have been, but where we are going, then Randy Orton heads to the ring. Orton talks about how he said he would not hesitate to beat Cody only to hesitate when he had him dead to rights. He says Cody did not hesitate, and pulled the trigger, and for that, he respects him. After he admits that he will not forget this, he asks Cody not to squander this opportunity and to kick John Cena's ass at SummerSlam. Suddenly, Drew McIntyre returns for the first time in weeks. McIntyre says Orton lost the psychological battle before he hesitated due to Cody buttering him up before their match, and reminds him that Cody attacked Orton's back the moment he tweaked it. He wants to know what happened to Orton, as he went from punting legends in the head to becoming a dead legend in a few years, then tells Cody that he wants him to win at SummerSlam, as he wants to face him and rip the WWE Championship from his hands. McIntyre then says that he will not hesitate, unlike Orton, who then hits McIntyre with an RKO out of nowhere before he and Cody have a brief staredown.

In backstage footage from earlier today, Charlotte Flair meets with General Manager Nick Aldis. Charlotte finds out that she is in a tag team #1 contender's match, and if she wins, she and her partner get a tag team title shot. Alexa Bliss shows up and says they are tag partners, not friends, and Charlotte is forced to reluctantly go along with this after Alexa says Charlotte has not been in the spotlight for a while and Aldis says that Charlotte does not always know what is best for her. Charlotte tells Alexa to stay out of her way.

Backstage, Drew McIntyre runs into General Manager Nick Aldis, wanting a match with Randy Orton. Aldis says Orton has left the building, but he can get a match next week at Saturday Night's Main Event. McIntyre then runs into Jacob Fatu, then walks away after a brief staredown. Aldis tells Jacob to find a tag team partner so he can take on Solo Sikoa and company later tonight. Jimmy Uso shows up right after Aldis leaves and becomes Jacob's tag partner.

Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss beat The Secret Hervice (Piper Niven and Alba Fyre) and the team of B-Fab and "Michin" Mia Yim in a WWE Women's Tag Team Championship #1 Contender's Match after Charlotte pats Alexa on the head sarcastically, which counts as a tag. This allows Charlotte to boot Chelsea Green off the top rope so that Alexa can hit Twisted Bliss on Alba Fyre for the win.

In backstage footage from earlier today, General Manager Nick Aldis chews out the SmackDown tag team division for their interference from last week. This leads to an argument between #DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa) and Fraxiom (Nathan Frazer and Axiom), which leads to Fraxiom getting a tag team match against Andrade and Rey Fenix. As for the rest of the tag team division, one man from each of the remaining teams will face The Wyatt Sicks while everyone else stays backstage, and if The Wyatt Sicks win tonight, they will be back in contention for the WWE Tag Team Championships. Gargano tries to unite the tag team division to no avail.

The Wyatt Sicks (Uncle Howdy, Erick Rowan, Joe Gacy, Dexter Lumis) beat Montez Ford, Johnny Gargano, Chris Sabin and Berto in an eight-man tag match after Johnny Gargano steps off the ring apron before Chris Sabin can tag him in, as Gargano wants nothing to do with Erick Rowan.

We hear from Giulia, who says that she knows what the WWE Women's United States Championship means and that opponents will come to her and they will all fall. She hopes to take the title where it have never been before before daring anyone to challenge her.

WWE acknowledges Independence Day in the United States.

Tiffany Stratton heads to the ring. Tiffany says that she knows there has been a target on her back and that she would not let Nia Jax's revenge keep her from being last woman standing. As she states that she is ready to beat Jade Cargill at SummerSlam well as whoever she defends the WWE Women's Championship against at Evolution, Jade Cargill shows up and heads to the ring. Jade says Tiffany was barely standing while she made quick work of Asuka, then tells Tiffany that she has a choice to make and that if she chooses wrong, she will not make it to SummerSlam. Tiffany reveals that her choice is none other than WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus, then mentions how they teamed up in the past before giving her the opportunity to face her for the WWE Women's Championship. Jade says it does not matter if she faces Tiffany or a legend at SummerSlam, and Trish Stratus thanks Tiffany for allowing her to wrestle in front of her kids, yet she has never been a champion in front of her kids. Tiffany warns Trish that it will not be easy as it is not the Attitude Era, but Trish says she wants that fight. Tiffany says that whether she faces Trish or Cargill, everyone will know the world runs on Tiffy Time.

We hear from Solo Sikoa, JC Mateo and Tama Tonga. Solo Sikoa introduces Hikuleo - now known as Tala Tonga - then says his group is more dangerous than ever. He then says that he and JC Mateo will take care of Jacob Fatu and Jimmy Uso as he declares his family complete.

Backstage, Trish Stratus runs into Jade Cargill. Cargill tells Trish Stratus that if she wins at Evolution, she will see her at SummerSlam. Trish tells Cargill she will see her at SummerSlam. After Trish leaves, Cargill is attacked from behind by Naomi. General Manager Nick Aldis shows up, and Cargill demands a match with Naomi.

Andrade and Rey Fenix beat Fraxiom (Nathan Frazer and Axiom).

Backstage, Damian Priest meets Aleister Black. Priest mentions that Aleister has a match with Ron Killings next week.

Jimmy fights Tala, but Tanga Loa joins in, and JC Mateo takes Jimmy for A Tour of the Islands. Jacob Fatu is then held down for Solo Sikoa to hit him with a Samoan Spike, then Jacob is powerbombed through the announce desk.

Rollins announces that tomorrow, he will take everything and have ultimate power and total control over the company when he wins the Money in the Bank contract. He says that anyone who stands in their way will suffer the same fate as those who already have, then says Roman Reigns is not coming to save the fans as he has never cared about them like he always has. Rollins then proclaims that he will drag everyone into the future, kicking and screaming if he has to, as that is what he does, and that there is no one who could stop him. Suddenly, Solo Sikoa, Jacob Fatu and JC Mateo show up and head to the ring. Solo questions Rollins' claims of disappearing and putting in the dirt those who have crossed him, then says Rollins has "a little Bloodline here going on," and compares Breakker and Bronson to "Main Event" Jey Uso and Sami Zayn, respectively. He also mentions Bronson Reed's history with him at WarGames, then addresses Paul Heyman, saying "Long time, no see." Rollins tells Solo to choose his next words very carefully. Solo says he is grabbing the Money in the Bank contract and making all of the power Rollins claims it has his. Rollins takes this as Solo being threatened, and states that Solo's family would rather stab him in the back than have his back. Rollins then tries to joke around with Jacob Fatu, then proposes renaming Jacob "Solo's bitch" before stating that he considers Jacob more threatening than Solo. Solo and Rollins remove their jackets, and when Bron Breakker steps up, so does Jacob Fatu. Rollins stands between them, then he and his party leaves the ring. As this goes on, Jimmy Uso shows up from behind and attacks Solo's party before the next match.

Zelina Vega beats Piper Niven in a Bakersfield Brawl after Giulia shows up and takes out Alba Fyre and Chelsea Green on the outside before hitting Piper with a shinai to assist Zelina with a powerbomb through a table. After the match, Giulia raises Zelina's hand, then headbutts Zelina and hits her with a brainbuster before raising up the Women's United States Championship.

Backstage, "Main Event" Jey Uso is met by "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes. Jimmy Uso joins up, and after both men ask Jey if he is okay, Jey says he is and that he is focused on tomorrow before he leaves.

We hear from Aleister Black, who is not happy with losing his Money in the Bank qualifier match after LA Knight used the Black Mass to steal the win from him. He wants to take away all the security that LA Knight in that match and face him in a one-on-one match, and if Knight manages to beat him, he will shake his hand and admit defeat.

Before the next match, LA Knight says it is Money in the Bank season again, and this year is his third in a row in the match. He mentions Penta and Andrade and states they will do all they can to win and take things to another level, but admits that El Grande Americano and Solo Sikoa are "on the goon side of things." He says he can drop Solo on his head, then addresses Seth "Freakin'" Rollins and says there is nothing hotter than "LA Knight in LA" and that Rollins will get burned by him as he tries to burn everything down. LA Knight says Aleister Black had a shot and that Money in the Bank can make or break careers, then says he did what he had to do to get the job done, and now he will get his feelings hurt again.

LA Knight beats Aleister Black by disqualification after Seth "Freakin'" Rollins shows up and hits Knight with The Stomp. When Rollins goes further on the attack, Aleister Black confronts him only to be Speared by Bron Breakker. Bronson Reed shows up and hits Knight with a senton, then Breakker hits Knight with a Spear.

The finals for both tournaments will be at Night of Champions, and the King and Queen get shots at the world champions of their respective brands at SummerSlam.

Backstage, Byron Saxton interviews Jade Cargill, who is excited to be in the Queen of the Ring Tournament and that she will be the Queen of the Ring when the dust settles, and when SummerSlam comes, she will be taking championship gold. As she is asked about Bianca Belair, Charlotte Flair shows up and says salt and sugar look the same, and tells her to have some friends or none at all. She then says she is the only queen in WWE, then Tiffany Stratton briefly passes by.

We hear from Legado del Fantasma (Santos Escobar, Angel, Berto). Santos Escobar says he has a plan for Worlds Collide: they will establish who owns the world of Lucha Libre in their six-man tag match with Psycho Clown, Pagano and El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr.

Backstage, Byron Saxton interviews American Made (Chad Gable, Julius Creed, Brutus Creed). Gable says his confident is high even though he did not qualify for Money in the Bank. He says El Grande American will take the Money in the Bank contract home while he wins the AAA Megas Championship against El Hijo del Vikingo. Andrade shows up, as does Penta, and Gable thinks that Andrade and Penta are trying to be funny. General Manager Nick Aldis shows up and makes a match between both parties tonight.

Tiffany Stratton heads to the ring. Tiffany talks about becoming Miss Money in the Bank as well as "the It Girl in WWE" last year and how everyone in the women's Money in the Bank will reach for the stars this year, then says that whoever wins will have their world revolve around her. She states that regardless of whoever wins, they cannot outdo the doer, because it is Tiffy Time. Suddenly, Rhea Ripley shows up. Rhea says she has never been in the Money in the Bank Match before because she never had to be in it, and while she has never felt what it is like to win it, she knows what it feels like to be champion, and she misses that feeling. Stephanie Vaquer then shows up for the next match.

Rhea Ripley, Alexa Bliss and Stephanie Vaquer beat Naomi, Giulia and Roxanne Perez in a six-woman tag match after Naomi leaves Roxanne high and dry, allowing Rhea to hit Roxanne with the Riptide for the win.

Backstage, Solo Sikoa speaks with JC Mateo. JC Mateo does not want to trust Jacob Fatu, but Solo says everything will be okay as long as Jacob follows his lead. He also says that Jacob is not a smart man and is "all gas and no brains." After Solo and JC leave, it is revealed that Jacob has been overhearing them in the background.

We see a video from Bo Dallas aka Uncle Howdy. He says that grief is not linear or healed by time; it is a festering wound that is continually being ripped open by an echo of a presence that is no more. He says you cannot forget; you can only accept that which cannot be changed. He says he has watched the tag team division - the loyalty, the trust, the brotherhood - and wonders if the bond is unbreakable. He says that through loss, The Wyatt Sicks (Bo Dallas/Uncle Howdy, Erick Rowan, Joe Gacy, Dexter Lumis, Nikki Cross) is family and unshaken by the storm, but once again, people want to forget them. He says that they return not for nostalgia or closure, but to rip open the wound of apathy and take what they are owed. He says that brotherhood will be tested and that the time for repentance has passed, and tells the tag team division to accept their condemnation. He then says The Wyatt Sicks will not be forgotten. Backstage, the SmackDown tag team division has all seen this message. Montez Ford says they have a bigger problem in the form of The Wyatt Sicks, as does Angelo Dawkins, and Fraxiom (Nathan Frazer and Axiom) agrees. The Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley) also decide to fight The Wyatt Sicks, which leaves #DIY (Johnny Gargano, Tommaso Ciampa, Candice LeRae), who leave the room.

El Hijo del Vikingo is seen in the front row before the next match.

Penta and Andrade beat American Made (Julius and Brutus Creed) after El Hijo del Vikingo stops Chad Gable from unmasking Penta and chases him through the crowd. After the match, Seth "Freakin'" Rollins, Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed and Paul Heyman show up. They surround the ring before overpowering Penta and Andrade. Rollins then tosses Andrade out of the ring before Bronson Reed hits Penta with a Tsunami as officials are at the ring. After the commercial break, Paul Heyman says that they do not fear the future, for they are the future. He says that Rollins told everyone what the business was becoming and that he would put Roman Reigns and CM Punk out of their misery. He calls Rollins "the vanguard of the WWE" and his group "the future of the WWE," and proclaims that tomorrow night, Seth Rollins will become Mr. Money in the Bank and solidify the power that comes with the World title as he propels the industry into his vision. All of a sudden, "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes shows up, and he is soon joined by "Main Event" Jey Uso. After a second commercial break, only Cody and Jey are in the ring. Cody states that John Cena has called him "desperate," which he finds bold coming from Cena, then compares Cena in the ring with Logan Paul to Michael Hayes in the ring with The Hardy Boyz (Jeff and Matt Hardy). He says that tomorrow night will be a showdown, which Jey Uso then calls "a yeet-down," before John Cena heads to the ring. After Cena is introduced, Jey Uso is attacked from behind by Logan Paul, and Cena strikes Cody with the Undisputed WWE Championship before hitting Jey with an Attitude Adjustment. Logan Paul then hits Cody with the Paulverizer followed by a top rope splash, and Jey also receives a top rope splash from Logan. Cena says that "No one is coming to save you," and that everyone's dream of what WWE is will be ruined, and that he and Logan as world champions will be the future. He says that he will take the WWE Championship and that Logan will take the World Heavyweight Championship to the top, as they are the last real champion and the future of the WWE, before they raise both world titles. Cena gets Cody back into the ring and hits him with an Attitude Adjustment before Logan throws Jey back into the ring to knock him out with a knockout punch, and Cena then says "You can't handle the truth!" He says that his and Logan's truths are in the ring, and there is nothing the fans or anyone who fight for them can do. He then calls the fans hypocritical for chanting for the truth when they are all liars. Cena says that this is why the fans are losers, then says this will be his last time in Bakersfield, California, and that winners write the history books. Cena and Logan lift up both world titles to end the show.

As Axiom says that is to be determined and Frazer demands a rematch, The Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley) show up. Alex Shelley says The Street Profits did not beat Fraxiom, but they have yet to defeat The Motor City Machine Guns, and demands a title shot. #DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa)and Candice LeRae show up, and Gargano says Candice was brought in to even the odds as he and Ciampa continue to be brought down. Damien Priest heads to the ring. Priest talks about how he lived on the street and had feuds that lasted for years, then talks about how he and Drew McIntyre had a feud for a year and ended it in a steel cage after he hit him with a Con-Chair-To and walked out of the cage. Cody then admits that he is fired up as it is his first night back on SmackDown, then brings out "Main Event" Jey Uso, who shows up from out of the crowd. After the commercial break, John Cena shows up and calls Cody and Jey professional wrestling's biggest "John Cena wanna-bes," and that both of them want to be him but will never do it because Cody is too desperate and Jey is too lazy. John Cena says that only Logan Paul matches him in fortune and fame as well as hustle, loyalty, and respect, and that Logan is here. Logan Paul shows up and heads to the ring. Cena says that Logan does not have to pay his dues like everyone else and that "Logan Paul is paying your mortgage," and that everybody came to see him and Logan Paul. Logan says he could walk on water and people will say it is because he cannot swim. He says that Cena can speak his language and that is the truth, and that "the stupid, simple Tennessee people" get to witness the moment he and Cena stood side by side. Logan states that the fans will get to live long, pathetic lives but will be able to claim that they saw that. He then states that he should be standing next to the Undipusted WWE Champion as a WWE Champion, and that he should have beaten Jey for his title. She says she has done everything in WWE except win Money in the Bank, and she plans to win it and take back the spotlight, as she takes what she wants. When Chelsea mocks her for "being a loser despite being a champion," Zelina attacks her only to get outnumbered. He says he has thought about the man he used to know and does not know where it went wrong or how he could have prevented this, but then he realized the problem: power. He says it is always power, and says that Cena used to call him a friend and a brother, but the more power and fame he got, the more disconnected he felt. He says that he stopped conversing and felt annoyed with him, and he blamed himself. R-Truth says he thought he did something wrong or did something to upset him, but after talking to others, he realized that Cena isolated himself with power much like Gollum in Lord of the Rings and corrupted himself with that power. He compares Cena to Gollum looking at the WWE Championship like the One Ring and says "It's not the championship...it's your ego, dawg!" He says that Cena gets mad when someone wants to have fun and that he does not like what Cena has become and that Cena is not happy. He says Cena is the greatest of all time, and while he does not know if he can bring him back, he will try, for Cena will not take his joy from him. R-Truth states that to save wrestling, he must save Cena, and while he does not want to fight him, he will beat "the everloving hustle, loyalty and respect" back into him.
