Royal Rumble 1998 - The Results

Kevin Kelly interviews The Nation of Domination (Faarooq, D'Lo Brown, Kama Mustafa, "The Rock" Rocky Maivia, "The World's Strongest Man" Mark Henry), but as The Rock speaks, he upsets the rest of The Nation for acting like he is the leader.

"Iron" Mike Tyson is seen in the skybox at the start of the show.

Vader beats The Artist Formerly Known As Goldust with the Vader Bomb even as Luna Vachon is on top of him.

Michael Cole announces that "Stone Cold" Steve Austin shows up. He tries to interview him, but Austin tells him to park his truck and threatens to kick his ass if he scratches. The Godwinns (Henry O. and Phineas I. Godwinn) show up, wanting to know where Austin is, then follows him into the arena.

Sunny is special guest referee for the next match.

Max Mini, Nova and Mosaic beat Battallion, Tarantula, and El Torito.

The Nation of Domination (Faarooq, D'Lo Brown, Kama Mustafa, "The World's Strongest Man" Mark Henry) look for "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, but can't find him. As they do, Faarooq tells Mark Henry it wasn't his idea for him to join The Nation, and if he wants to prove he belongs, all he has to do is beat up "Stone Cold" Steve Austin.

"Iron" Mike Tyson is seen in the skybox with Vince McMahon and Vince's son, Shane McMahon.

Michael Cole interviews "The Rock" Rocky Maivia. The Rock says there is no dissent within The Nation of Domination (Faarooq, D'Lo Brown, Kama Mustafa, "The Rock" Rocky Maivia, "The World's Strongest Man" Mark Henry), then tells President Bill Clinton that "when you lay down with a dog, you're gonna wake up with fleas" regarding Paula Jones and "don't be silly, you gotta cover it, Willy." As for "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock, he's standing alone just like Shamrock wants it and just like The Rock likes it, and that someone will be standing by to carry him out of the building.

Despite the interference of Kama Mustafa and D'Lo Brown - the latter getting stuck on the ropes after being knocked off the apron, allowing The Rock to hit Shamrock in the jaw with a brass knuckle only for Shamrock to kick out - "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock beats "The Rock" Rocky Maivia for the WWF Intercontinental Championship...almost. The Rock tells the ref that Shamrock knocked him out with a brass knuckle, and when the referee searches him, he finds the brass knuckles in Shamrock's tights, which were placed there by The Rock when he tried to use it to win the match. The referee reverses the decision and hands the Intercontinental Championship back to The Rock, and Shamrock snaps, putting the referee in a belly-to-belly suplex before putting him in the ankle lock. Referees head to the ring, but Shamrock lets go and the referees immediately back out.

Los Boricuas (Savio Vega, Miguel Perez, Jose Castillo, Jose Estrada Jr.) are also looking for "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, and think they find him only to find they attacked the wrong guy. Turns out it's one of The Disciples of Apocalypse (Skull, 8-Ball, Chainz), who immediately strike back at Los Boricuas.

Before the next match, The New Age Outlaws ("Road Dog" Jesse James and "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn) show up in Green Back Packers, saying that The Legion of Doom (Road Warrior Animal and Road Warrior Hawk) will be part of history just like the San Francisco 49ers, and Road Dog says Steve Young will be playing a part in the Super Bowl by "telling his fat wife to fetch him another brewski."

Michael Cole interviews The Legion of Doom (Road Warrior Animal and Road Warrior Hawk). Even though he has a back injury, Animal says he's not missing this match and he's kicking some butt in the ring tonight. Hawk says The New Age Outlaws ("Road Dog" Jesse James and "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn) think they're as cool as the other side of the pillow, but they'll be even cooler when they put them on ice.

The Legion of Doom (Road Warrior Animal and Road Warrior Hawk) beat The New Age Outlaws ("Road Dog" Jesse James and "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn) by disqualification when Road Dog hits Animal in the back with a steel chair. The New Age Outlaws retain the WWF Tag Team Championships. During the match, Road Dogg handcuffs Hawk to a turnbuckle. After the match, The New Age Outlaws continue to attack Animal. Hawk manages to break free and use the steel chair against the Outlaws, who almost immediately proceed to retreat.

The winner of "Stone Cold" Steve Austin's Austin 3:16 truck is Mildred Bowers from Nashville, Tennessee.

Despite supposedly taken out of the match by an unknown assailant, #24 entrant "Stone Cold" Steve Austin wins the 1998 Royal Rumble match by last eliminating "The Rock" Rocky Maivia, winning his second Royal Rumble match in a row. During the match:

Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie, who have been tag team partners since December 29, draw #1 and #2 respectively. Cactus Jack tosses some steel chairs into the ring, and the two of them have a steel chair duel. At one point, Chainsaw Charlie unmasks and asks him to hit him with the chair. Cactus Jack does that, then Charlie asks again. Cactus Jack hands him the chair, then asks him to do it to him. He does. This continues until Tom Brandi gets in the ring only to be tossed out by both Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie, who then fight each other with their fists.

Owen Hart is attacked from behind by Jim Cornette and Jeff Jarrett when he shows up for the Royal Rumble match. Officials and referees have to restore order and break up the brawl. The attack supposedly leaves Owen unable to compete in the match. Not surprisingly, when Jarrett gets into the match, he goes right after Jarrett and eventually eliminates him.

"The Rock" Rocky Maivia and D'Lo Brown fight each other off and on throughout the Royal Rumble match. D'Lo gets some shots on "The World's Strongest Man" Mark Henry as well, and the entirety of The Nation of Domination in the match attacks each other through the match, with Faarooq going after everyone else in The Nation as soon as he gets in. Faarooq ends up eliminating Mark Henry, and The Rock eliminates Faarooq while trying to eliminate both him and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin at the same time only for Austin to help holding on to the rope.

"The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock becomes the one to knock Kurrgan the Interrogator off his feet, and he and four other men eliminate Kurrgan.

After being eliminated as Cactus Jack, Mick Foley returns as Mankind and eliminates Chainsaw Charlie in return for Charlie eliminating Cactus Jack. Mick Foley also comes back later on in the match as Dude Love after being eliminated by The Artist Formerly Known As Goldust, but none of the Three Faces of Foley win the Royal Rumble match.

"Triple H" Hunter Hearst Helmsley and Chyna appear after The Honky Tonk Man shows up. When he tries to eliminate The Artist Formerly Known As Goldust, Chyna tries to strike Owen with one of Triple H's crutches. Owen catches it, but Triple H hits him with the other one and Owen gets hit with the other one by Triple H, sending Owen over the top rope and eliminating him.

Ahmed Johnson has powder tossed into his face by "The World's Strongest Man" Mark Henry prior to being eliminated.

It is confirmed that "Stone Cold" Steve Austin has been taken out of the Royal Rumble match after it has been mentioned by Jerry "The King" Lawler on commentary a couple of times. After Kama Mustafa enters the match, however, Stone Cold's music hits, and Austin comes out from the crowd to fight everyone. It is later revealed that the person who failed to show was Skull of The Disciples of Apocalypse, who was attacked by Los Boricuas (Savio Vega, Miguel Perez, Jose Estrada, Jesus Castillo Jr.) due to them mistaking him for "Stone Cold" Steve Austin.

Savio Vega brings the rest of Los Boricuas into the Royal Rumble match with him, but "Stone Cold" Steve Austin fights them all off.

After the Royal Rumble match, "Iron" Mike Tyson says that "Stone Cold" Steve Austin was intense tonight. As for the WWE Championship match between Austin and "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels, he is looking for it.

"The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels beats The Undertaker in a Casket Match after Chyna attacks referee Earl Hebner so that The New Age Outlaws ("Road Dog" Jesse James and "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn) and Los Boricuas (Savio Vega, Miguel Perez, Jesus Castillo, Jose Estrada Jr.) attack The Undertaker. As that happens, Kane shows up and fights them off, then attacks The Undertaker and sends him into the coffin. Shawn and "Triple H" Hunter Hearst Helmsley close the casket, then Paul Bearer shows up. He locks and closes the casket on The Undertaker, and he and Kane take the casket to the entrance ramp. Kane then goes to the back and returns with an ax and gasoline, then smashes the ax into the top of the casket before covering the casket with the gas. Paul Bearer then lights a book of matches, and the casket is set ablaze. (During the match, "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels suffers a serious back injury after his lower back hits the casket during a back body drop, which herniated two discs and crushed one completely. This injury directly results in him not appearing at Now Way Out Of Texas: In Your House, dropping the belt to "Stone Cold" Steve Austin at WrestleMania 14, and go into temporary retirement until 2002.)
